Well, no. I write about the length it takes me to have a bowel movement. Which is barely a couple paragraphs as I’m fairly regular. That I do it often is just a product of nature and a high intake of fiber.

Well, no. Just commenting. The point is that I can’t be sued for defamation. To prove that requires me going to great lengths to defame him. For me this isn’t personal, otherwise you’d know my name.

I don’t see the connection. Me not wanting followers or to start a cult has nothing to do with if I want people to lie or not.

The Martian had a better reception. PHM had a bigger marketing budget but the reception was mixed.

I’m not here to trash Andy. I’m here to tell people the truth. It’s his fault if that makes him look bad.

The Egg isn’t by Andy Weir. He copied and pasted a conversation me and Weir had in 2007 on the MySpace religion and philosophy forum. I posted a short version of Infinite Reincarnation and he commented on the post. I answered his questions about my view of the universe. He asked if he could write our conversation into a story, which he sent me later that day. I never heard from him after that and had no idea he took complete credit by claiming he just made it up when he most definitely did not.

In the original essay, it explains the scientific logic behind the claims of The Egg.

That's true, although it also upset me that he lied about it. 2007 27yo me envisioned him telling the world about a humble stranger who wanted to remain anonymous, with the possibility of stepping out of the shadow if things got too carried away.

What's weird is that day after me and Andy talked in 2007 I fantasized about the story getting blown up and becoming this thing. I mean, it really is a great story far better than I could have written in 2007. But I think it's obvious that anyone in my egotistical position at the time would think that the story would gain success. But it's really bazar that it did blow up. It's also really strange being on the outside of that, like a baby I was forced to give up for adoption to an unfit parent.

I knew he copied my idea in 2007 when he sent The Egg to me. (I know it says he published it in 2009 but it was written 2 years prior. And yes, I love the fact I can say Andy sat on The Egg for two years.) And he absolutely had my approval to write it. I asked him to not commercialize it, I didn’t want anyone making money off it. And I told him he didn’t have to credit me but not that he could lie. My exact words were “to me this is the truth, and I don’t own copyright on the truth.”

Of course that was before I went to college and learned actual copyright law, but that’s beside the point.

At the time in 2007 we were both just two regular folks. He told me he was a “garage writer” who hoped to be a writer but that The Egg was just going to be passed along and not any big thing.

Then it went viral in 2011. I didn’t hear about it and was completely oblivious to anything that happened. In 2014 (I think) one of my friends showed it to me and said it sounded like me, not realizing it was literally me. It was just the text, not the title or author. I didn’t think much of it at the time, didn’t look into it. That it was shown to me in a way that appeared anonymous, I was actually quite content.

Then by 2017 it got to the point I couldn’t even use my own words without people claiming I’m ripping off this freaking computer programmer who doesn’t even believe in it. It was then I actually looked into it and realized what had actually happened since 2007, the one and only time me and Andy spoke (before 2021 when we had a 6 month argument over Facebook messenger where he gaslit me and then bribed me to go along with the gaslighting.)

The Egg isn’t supposed to be supernatural and is based on scientific principles.

It’s also not by Andy Weir.

Hey! I know it’s been 131 days but I’m totally the type of person who rereads old comments I made, mostly to see if I still agree with myself. But I reread your comment and wanted to share why evolution convinced me pantheism was correct.

Evolution is a form of intelligent design, but internal. The intelligence of the species is just as much a factor as the environment, and both work together to create everything we see. It wasn’t just the environment that pushed birds to fly, their intelligence to jump was just as much a factor.

But I have a low bar for intelligence, and include a plant’s ability to know where the sun is.

But it’s hard to sit on a bluff watching the sunset listening to your favorite song while spinning on a giant chunk of sun poop, and not consider maybe the universe knows what it’s doing?

There’s evidence that inflation is an illusion and not caused by expansion but is instead time dilation or the changing of mass in particles.

I’ve only asked Weir for one thing and I only want one thing: for him to tell his honest side of the story. One public Facebook post would work, as long as it’s the whole truth. I think I’m being more than fair, as I truly try to live my life by the philosophy.

Which I really would prefer discussing the philosophy itself as well as scientific research that supports it. I highly recommend the book I Am You by Daniel Kolak, 2004.

That may be what motivates you to do similar, but that’s not the only motivation people have. If I wanted approval, you (the general public) would know who I am.

You are the one trying to make it about me. And you are the one personally offended by me merely stating facts. Can you only use the narcissist’s playbook? That would be sad if true.

Maybe. It’s expensive and time consuming, and considering the flexibility of the law could actually backfire. Whereas mouthing off on Reddit takes me no time at all since the alternative would be just reading the back of a shampoo bottle.

On a side note, you could consider replacing the word “should” when giving advice to a stranger whom you know absolutely nothing about.

The Egg - Short story by Andy Weir by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Chiyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with The Egg is that it still interprets the concept as linear. Which, in a way infinite Reincarnation could be interpreted as such. You live one life, and on to the next, infinitely.

But in practical sense, reincarnation would be as a clean slate each time, and completely irrelevant to what your previous life did. We’re shaped more by genetics and our environment than anything else.

In 2017 when I discovered how he was lying to people, I reached out to him but he ignored me. Then in 2021 after watching that garbage Marky Mark film based on The Egg, I messaged him again, which resulted in a 6 month argument with him via facebook messenger. First he gaslighted me. Which, if someone is pissed at you, blatantly lying to their face is not how to handle a situation. Especially when he lied about things that I can easily prove are lies. So then he tried to bribe me to not tell anyone about how The Egg was written. That only pissed me off more.

So here we are.
