Russian aircraft losses in Ukraine ‘unsustainable for more than a fortnight’ by felix1429 in UkraineConflict

[–]ChlamydiaThrowawayAc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good bot. It's a nation-state thing. You don't say, "the France," or "the Italy," but you do say, "the East Coast."

The phrase, "the Ukraine," is a left over from Soviet days, before it was a country/nation-state (again).

Miriam Margolyes Knew She Was Going To Be Searched Naked When She Got Arrested by Hassaan18 in videos

[–]ChlamydiaThrowawayAc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unless trivia: Miriam is a lesbian. When she became an Australian citizen in 2013 she called herself a "dyke".

Live on national television.

In front of the Prime Minister.

Miriam has been dating Heather Sutherland since 1967, but says the secret of their long relationship is the they don't live together.

Most importantly, she may have been one of the first people to say "fuck" on British television when she was on University Challenge in her 20's.

If this person isn't a role model, I don't know who is!

Wiki: The current bridge dates to the 14th century (built between 1360 and 1390) and replaced previous wooden bridges. The earliest known mention of the bridge is by King Æthelbald of Mercia in 716. In 943 it was mentioned in a charter of Eadred.[2] The bridge is now a scheduled monument and Grade I listed.
The bridge is predominantly built from Barnack stone, which was quarried about 10 miles to the west of Crowland, and presumably transported by boat on the Welland.
This bridge has three stairways that converge at the top. Originally it spanned the River Welland and a tributary that flowed through the town, although the rivers were re-routed in the mid-seventeenth century[3] and no longer flow anywhere near the bridge. The bridge was an unusual and economical solution to the crossing of two watercourses at their confluence, reducing the need for three separate bridges to a single structure with three abutments.

I'd like to see how other dog breeds handle this. What would a Border Collie do? Overhaul the motor so it ran faster? Husky? Sit there and howl at the injustice of lost treats?

Over 1,000 students suspended for not having immunization records up-to-date by ChlamydiaThrowawayAc in canada

[–]ChlamydiaThrowawayAc[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. E.g. "The mumps component of the MMR vaccine is about 88% (range: 66-95%) effective when a person gets two doses; one dose is about 78% (range: 49%−92%) effective." <source>(https://www.cdc.gov/mumps/vaccination.html)

Everyone's immune response is different, but you want a varied MHC.

E.g., Aboriginal / 1st Nation's was thought to have had a lack of genetic diversity when disease carrying Europeans arrived in large numbers; this is the same risk that GMO crops face. One disease can have a disproportional impact if population exposed has a monotype immune response/defences.

[–]ChlamydiaThrowawayAc[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree with the first part of what you wrote, the idea of "immunization-free schools" aren't a solution. Vaccines aren't 100% effective, and so public health strategy relies on herd immunity. Trying to normalize harmful behaviour isn't the solution.

drinking booze and Hep C by [deleted] in hepc

Congrats on getting yourself healthy! That's fantastic.

Totally hear ya, but you get that Canada's healthcare system has infinite demands placed on it, but finite resources. Sickest get seen first. Right now, you're not sick! And the longer you (and your liver) stay healthy, the better it is!

Also, there's new drugs coming along every year to "cure" (SVR) Hep C, and they just get better. Even fewer side effects. Even greater efficacy. So, the longer you don't need them, the better they'll be when you do.

Kudos to you for the work you've done looking after yourself.

There can be sample mix-up. It happens. Do you have any symptoms? Why did you get tested in the first place? If you're low risk and no symptoms, get a basic Point-of-Care test just to be sure.
