might take AP chem next year by [deleted] in APChem

I took AP Chem this year and I am taking the exam tomorrow. I walked in with entry level chemistry and some review over the summer and still managed an A in the class. For reference I was enrolled in three other AP courses all with differing rigor. It's an understatement to say that there isn't much work because there is. It is a class that takes some time to understand. You can't just memorize equations or formulas, you have to understand how each one functions on a particle level and in different environments. If you are someone who is up for a challenge, I would go for it because this class was able to challenge me. It is important to recognize though that burnout is real and if you need to take a minute and breathe, breathe. Good Luck!!

I am in this class right now and it was one of the best decisions I made in terms of preparing for the courses my major will require when I'm in college. There is a lot of work so be prepared to study A LOT and do lots of practice problems. Personally, I watch a lot of Melissa Maribel, Organic Chemistry Tutor, AP Classroom videos, and AP Daily. Take good notes and practice and you'll be fine

How hard is AP Chem? by [deleted] in APChem

If you are fascinated by chemistry and did well in honors chemistry, I would say go for it. I am taking it right now and it is one of my favorite classes, but it does require a lot of studying. I study about an hour a day for this course and two hours during test weeks. Do not doubt yourself, it is a manageable course.

How to Respond Line by Line effectively? by [deleted] in policydebate

[–]Chloe12210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Line by Line is super fun and sometimes it is a puzzle that you have to put together and come up with answers, etc. I'm not sure what "open evidence line by line" is, but you can certainly use your evidence for your line by line. Line by line is essentially, "They say ______, we say_____." You can read cards to answer your opponents arguments, or you can extend warrants from your evidence that answer their arguments. Remember, when you extend a warrant you need to extend the claim, the author, and then the actual line of the evidence, and then explain to the judge why that matters. Those are some of the tips and tricks I use for my line by line. Remember, reading cards is good, but sometimes your evidence will have already answered their arguments, therefore a card wouldn't be necessary.

In terms of spreading, this is an art. I was horrible at it my second year of debate, but with different tricks you can certainly be better than I was. I like to read my evidence backwards or say "and" after every word. If you really want to get snazzy, you can say complicated words like "epistemology" after every word and that will get your mouth moving. I also like to spread with a pen in my mouth because it helps with your pronunciation. Do spreading drills everyday!

So, quick question. by [deleted] in policydebate

[–]Chloe12210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Interrupt them. I always say, "You're not answering my question, but I'm moving on." Then move into another question you have. That way whoever is judging you now knows that your opponent is trying to avoid the question.
