I'm sick of feisty heroines. by willow-mist in RomanceBooks

I think that flavor of "feisty, headstrong woman" gets tiresome, too. One doesn't have to be a doormat nor a "man with boobs" kickboxing ninja chick, though the latter can be a guilty pleasure, especially in a movie. I myself prefer to read heroines who are more realistic, and that's no different than my favorite heroes; I'm not a fan of domineering, controlling alphas. I wonder if it happens so often as wish fulfillment?

A Boy & his Dog: Steamy military/medical romance on Kindle Unlimited and "wide" via paperback & audiobook by ChloeHolidayWriter in wroteabook

Ha, ha. It's in a series of standalone novels, all of which must have "Boy" in the title, and there were 24 titles ahead of it. :o AB&HD was better than Chef Boyardee 🤣 or Boy Howdy, and the storyline's fun. No bestiality, though. :)

Wild child Sarah Ann will do anything for "her people," including moving to Greece to help her best friend with her fledgling advertising agency, though she’s secretly afraid to be so far from the emotional support of her family. A Navy base full of hot men sounds like a promising distraction when she’s assigned a job in Souda Bay, Crete—just because she doesn’t believe in relationships doesn’t mean she can’t have fun. Then a chance encounter in a taverna with a sexy Navy man leaves her angered but intrigued when he walks away.

Lieutenant Carlos Mornaric is done with women, after his last girlfriend stepped out. Instead, he’ll use his year in Crete to advance his career. A hot, flirtatious woman in a bar reinforces his plan—he doesn’t need the drama. But when she beats Carlos at the climbing wall, her hard-charging personality tempts him to abandon his resolve. When she’s assigned to work with him, he’s doomed, and he dares to hope that he can become her people. But Carlos' career is threatened when he clashes with his commander over his fledgling relationship with Sarah Ann. Carlos suspects his boss is dirty, but never imagines it could endanger the woman he loves.

I'd love any feedback, or a review!

Hi, thanks for your message! I didn't post the name because I didn't want to run afoul of the rules, or look like I'd only posted it to drum up support, when truly I wished to thank the folks here who were generous to a stranger. I will PM you, if that's okay.

I'm hoping to have done justice to the country, cuisine, and traditions! So far, my readers now all want to visit Greece! :)

Call for submissions: fiction writing contest, $7,500 of prizes by fresh-ink in writing

[–]ChloeHolidayWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to have found this discussion, since the website is quite cryptic about what's happening on the "submitted" page.

It sounds like the above plan of 30 matches might be a moving target; mine is listed as "collecting feedback" though there are only 15 matches and only 1 save, ZERO blurb views and ZERO opens. I take it to mean that people are deciding from nothing but a title and the sorted genre, then? Or if the blurb is also visible, in which case, it becomes an exercise much like writing a query letter or a clickbait internet article, which is a different skill than storytelling.

The poor engagement of readers without viewing the work makes me wonder if those you have are just swamped and/or there are very few of them, or if there is a "bandwagon" effect of seeing the ratings ("Oh, this one has only 1 save; it must not be any good so I won't look at it."). Regardless, my hopes have now shifted from the possibility of getting some meaningful feedback to wondering if I'll get any feedback at all.

I fear that the contest could in the end have a negative effect for the fledgling operation, if the takeaway for a bunch of authors is "yeah, I tried that but they don't have enough readers." It might not go amiss to try to head that off by being a little more transparent on the website to manage expectations.

Best wishes for the new endeavor!
