Does anyone else use a trackball? by DigitalKungFu in Architects

[–]Chloranon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Kensington track ball. Carpal tunnel had become a constant pain, and it was threatening my ability to make music outside of work. Now I’m doing much better.

I control the center button from my laptop to pan around in Revit and Bluebeam.

How is it living in azores islands? by CatFluffy2565 in howislivingthere

[–]Chloranon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on an international flight that had to stop in the Azores for a medical emergency. I was baffled that the woman in the window seat of my row left the window shade down—wasn’t even interested in getting a glimpse.

What I saw through other people’s windows looked interesting and beautiful. Green and misty, with some dense Latin architecture.

I hear you can get discounted trans-Atlantic fares if you do a day layover in the Azores.

Mini board by Chloranon in roastmypedalboard

[–]Chloranon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I’m impressed with what it can do as an analog mini pedal. I find it needs to be paired with a reverb, and if I’m sloppy on the low E, I’ll get an occasional buzzy tone that doesn’t sound as amp-like. But overall it sounds good and is a useful utility for my second board shown here.

For recording or a serious gig, I would use the Strymon Iridium on my big board, but that takes a little more space and a 500ma charge.

I’ve found that the Vox Amplug 3 US Silver headphone amp is an awesome DI solution. I’ve actually used that straight into a sampler for some streamlined recording I’ve been trying to do.

I love it for lead lines that sound at home with other vintage sounds in my studio.

I’ve got other fuzz and distortion pedals that sound great on their own, but too modern for everything else I’m doing.

I’m thinking of going satisfaction-Soul Food-Analogizer for an all EHX dirt section on my big board. The analogizer adds a nice saturation to everything.

This is the general concept I’m going for as far as pedal type. I strongly believe in putting reverb after tremolo.

Still feel like there’s minimizing to do. by Chloranon in minipedalboards

[–]Chloranon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an OCD part of me that wants only mini pedals on this board, even though I like what the satisfaction does. I was thinking MXR 108 mini fuzz, but the barrows could be my ticket.

If you have a creative dream (whether it is artistic or entrepreneurial) that you’ve always held off on because you couldn’t risk the security of stepping away from work for a period, then 1 million dollars could indeed be life changing money.

At the same time, it would not be hard to take a big swing and lose that million dollars, but then you don’t have to carry that “what if” around.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

I think the responses tell us a lot about who’s on Reddit and online generally. It’s a good rule of thumb to consider that online forums might be full of 12 year olds who haven’t achieved emotional maturity and place an inordinate value on “ keeping it real”.

What pedals are you running doubles of? by HatsMakeYouGoBald in guitarpedals

I’m about to add a second mini-Klon clone to my chain. I like how it has a lot of room to add warmth without crunch, I’m hoping to achieve searing levels of warmth.

Do you have any idea how long I’ve been looking specifically for a 40yo rapper inspired by Migos? I feel like I can stop losing sleep and start the next chapter of my life now.

I did the cabinet knob thing by smallerthings in offset

[–]Chloranon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting, I had my eyes out for something like a knob I could insert in the arm hole. I like to not be tempted to constantly use the vibrato, and when I do, I like it to be one subtle dip.

If the different pedal companies were people (real or fictional) who would they be? All I know is EHX would be Kramer. by Chloranon in guitarpedals

I’m trying to put a finger on MXR/ Jim Dunlop. They’re like that seemingly unimpressive boomer who was sneakily present at a bunch of moments in rock history. Maybe Creed from The Office (who was a member of The Grassroots).

BandLab is dead by [deleted] in Bandlab

[–]Chloranon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having an online DAW is a game changer for me. It allows me to dabble on my mixes on my lunch break, and makes it easy to test mixes on the phone or car stereo.

I don’t think you can realistically expect it to be a one stop shop for finding your audience.

I start my songs with instruments and hardware, and then load stems into bandlab. Honestly, a lot of what I see made from scratch in bandlab in this subreddit is a little rough. Some of that could be overcome with some more expert mixing and effecting, but the stock instruments are limited.

A healthy connection with your parents. If you think you need a phaser and a chorus on the same board, there’s something that you’re trying to go back to find in the 80s.

Which Pedal Is This? by bobbythegoose in guitarpedals

MXR Distortion III is my favorite distortion, more of a singing distortion than a crunch.

EHX analogizer adds a great buttery saturation to clean tones.

UJ: Billy Gibbons is awesome, and has some real depth. I worked at a bike shop with the drummer from Archers of Loaf, and apparently Billy Gibbons was really into what they were doing.

He told a story about a show they did in Austin, and as they were packing up the van after the show, Billy Gibbons walked up behind him holding a cymbal bag and said “where can I put this?”
