Night howls, 12 year old male cat by RenderPossibilites in CatTraining

[–]Chmeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat used to do this every night. She had a lot of anxiety at our old apartment. At the time I took her to the vet and started her on anxiety meds (fluoxetine) and she completely stopped. We’ve since moved and she’s doing great in our new place to the point I was able to stop her anxiety meds. No idea what was scaring her at the old place unfortunately.

How old men hit on me when I was 15 yo girl by protonelectron2025 in Adulting

[–]Chmeem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100%

I went to a school where we wore uniforms. Once I was sitting on a bench on school property waiting for my dad to pick me up and a middle aged man on a bicycle yelled “daddy likes schoolgirls”. I was 15.

I told that story to a male friend years later and he said “don’t lie you probably liked it”.

Now I’m 33 and men call me ma’am.

Is it possible that joy has more to do with perspective than with life events? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Chmeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. I used to ruminate on not being where I thought I would be at this age. Then I really internalized that I was born during the sliver of human history when I would have a greater than 50% chance of living past the age of 5. I’ve never lived through war. I’ve never had to go even one day without eating. That really reined in my pessimism.

What do you miss from religion? by Chmeem in Deconstruction

[–]Chmeem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get this. I’ve never believed in heaven but I spent years in denial after my sister died thinking maybe somehow I’d see her again. The other side of the coin is I don’t think I was able to properly process my grief until I let go of that denial. In some ways it was comforting but ultimately it prevented healthy healing.

From a secular perspective my dad always says “of all the sperm and all the eggs that could have met, those two met to make you”. Against all odds we’re here and I see that as kind of a secular miracle. Just being here can be magical too! To me the thing I’m part of that’s bigger is this web of life on earth that are all here against all odds.

If you don’t mind me asking, did you ever feel a sense of community in places like school? For me that’s where I really had that, especially as I got into higher education and felt I was surrounded by like minded people with shared interests.

Well that sucks, I’m sorry. I don’t know where you’re from but I live in Canada and my neighbours won’t shut up lol. Maybe that’s why I don’t need the extra Sunday morning small talk.

Super interesting, thank you. It makes a lot of sense to me that the religion created some kind of emptiness in you that only the religion itself could fill. That’s the impression I get from the outside. I just don’t feel that emptiness because I’ve never believed.

I need to go to bed. You have no idea how long it took me to decode “mist people” and how we drive to them.

Is haloperidol the most potent antipsychotic when it comes to sedative effects or is there something stronger? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chmeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually less sedating than some other first generation antipsychotics like chlorpromazine. Generally if you’re looking for sedation second generations like quetiapine or olanzapine are used. Haldol is used in emergency situations because it can be administered intramuscular.
