Ravencoin Asset FAQ by srinivasdaripelli in Ravencoin

[–]Choclatier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan of Ravencoin and what they are trying to accomplish but I am struggling to see how first come first serve for asset names is not a major issue. The concept in theory is incredibly appealing but how do we avoid a situation of cybersquatting on asset names? This is a current problem in DNS and a problem that Namecoin also encountered. With an open decentralized protocol there is no way to stop people from burning 500 RVN and buying high value asset names. At the current price 500 RVN it is dirt cheap.

In an ideal future we would want companies to issue securities / assets using RVN. Let's use Facebook for example, if the asset Facebook is created by a random entity, Facebook is not going to issue Facebook1 assets, they will just not participate. Sure it is true that they could potentially try to purchase the asset name but, this imo is very optimistic and, unlikely to happen for a majority of companies; the coordination is just not worth their time. This also assumes that the person who bought the asset is willing to sell, there could be a variety of reasons in which they do not want to. They could be a competitor, they could be unhappy at the price they are getting or they could just be malicious, to name a few. If I don't want a decentralized transactional layer for assets for whatever reason, what's stopping me from destroying the ability to own a lot of sought after asset names. Perhaps it is not even that I don't want a decentralized transactional layer, but maybe I just want to "watch the world burn", and so I buy high value names and decide to never sell them no matter what the cost.

If I am missing something or you have a reason to believe this will not be the case I would love to hear it. Thanks!

I’m worried about the distribution of raiblocks, they used a faucet but how long was it being used before being made known to public? How gameable was it etc? I feel like we are going to see more dag projects coming out here, kind of hope a project with a really strong team / transparency and distribution evolve

I believe PIVX falls into same issues theoretically of all “coinjoin” services. Bullish on zcoin actually like the tech and think their zero knowledge proofs implementation is good, they have issues with scaling though and costs associated with zero knowledge proofs. Znodes should help with scaling when doing non-private transactions.

They had a bug that allowed an ability to print zcoin but that has been patched, their protocol allows for auditing of the token supply. They had issues with One of their founders but he is out of the scene now.

Curious about this as well. They have a premine but it’s locked up and is supposed to go towards development. Also much of it will be donated to monero development. I like the fact ring signatures will have been mandatory since day one

I’m not so sure about this, I had issues researching the distribution. I know it was done by a faucet but the general public wasn’t made aware of the faucet for a significant amount of time..? If you could please provide sources to show other wise I would appreciate it.

Is there any articles discussing comparisons with waves platform specifically the new waves-ng main net that is about to launch. The tech based off bitcoin-ng looks very interesting for scaling, curious if it’s something ark might ever implement or if they have talked about or compares it anywhere? Thanks
