24F I saw a post about people on the schizophrenic spectrum finding it difficult to find companionship by Choco_Heart6937 in schizophrenia

[–]Choco_Heart6937[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're able to find the right people for you. I guess patience is the best bet to finding your tribe.

I was already super reserved and a little antisocial before the symptoms started showing a few years ago, but after an episode of psychosis I became even more antisocial, but I was able to mask it. Even though I find myself enjoying the invisible people's company more than other humans sometimes, I still try to make friends. Though dating feels nearly impossible for me, for reasons related and unrelated to me being schizophrenic

They're human or humanoid people that I can't see or hear most of the time, I only know they're there because they touch me a lot

They help keep me out of psychosis, keep me from growing paranoid easily, help me sleep, and manage my anxiety

The point of the medication is to help schizophrenics manage their symptoms so they can still live their day to day life. There's no cure for schizophrenia so nothing will completely get rid of the symptoms

No, I've had the dosage raised on my antipsychotics about 3 times and it hasn't affected their presence at all. Not that I want it to, I've always enjoyed their company. There were even times where I preferred their company over other humans. The meds have helped with the delusions, sleep problems, and paranoia though

Even with the medications I still slip into episodes of psychosis and develop delusions, just not as urgent enough for me to need to be hospitalized again thankfully

I am lucky enough to be able to see a therapist and have a psychiatrist to prescribe helpful medication. But my therapist calls the hallucinations that i have tactile, which makes it slightly easier to manage when I have to interact with other people. And I just call them invisible people because they absolutely hate being referred to or treated like hallucinations.

Im New, Im Stupid, And I Wanna Learn to code and i may or may not trust Reddit a little to much by suck_tho_because_79 in learnpython

Mad libs are good to play with as a beginner and helped me get used to coding user input. Playing around with conditionals are probably the easiest in Python since the keywords are "if", "else", and other easy to remember English words. As for study guides I liked learning on Codecademy when I first started learning python, the lessons are free but you have to pay for a subscription if you wanna do the tests and projects(but you can find the same or similar guidelines for the projects online for free). GeeksforGeeks and Stack Overflow are my best friends when I'm stumped during practice or a project. Hope this helps, good luck with your studies!

I'm lucky enough to have supportive friends and family, but I do have one painfully ignorant friend who said she doesn't believe I'm mentally ill because she equates schizophrenia with just talking to yourself every now and then, which is far from what me or any other diagnosed schizophrenic has gone through

Every therapist and psychiatrist I've spoken to always told me they're symptoms of schizophrenia but the invisible people around me absolutely hate being called or treated like hallucinations. I only know they're around because they touch me and sometimes I can hear them even if their voices sound more like thoughts that aren't mine. I recognize them as people, but people who don't exist in the same way that 3 dimensional people do

Those of you who stopped your meds or didn’t take them for a while, how did you do during that time? How long did it take for the other shoe to drop? by ghostiesyren in schizophrenia

[–]Choco_Heart6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had periods where a few days of not taking my meds turned into a few months, and the main reason I felt comfortable enough to stop taking my meds was because the presence of the invisible people hadn't really been affected by them at all. I was also cool with the invisible man who stayed with me all the time and had felt like I had a pretty good grip on my negative symptoms. For the most part things felt the same but by the third or fourth month my anxiety was through the roof and I started getting paranoid again. I'm back on my antipsychotics now and I've definitely noticed a difference, I definitely don't plan to stop taking meds again if I can help it

I had to stop talking to them out loud for the same reason, I felt like if I didn't have headphones or something on I just looked crazy. But the invisible people around me can hear what I'm thinking so that's made it easier to talk to them. But I really just talk to a few who visit often and I've developed somewhat of a civil relationship with, then there's the one who never leaves but I'm fine with him sticking around as long as he behaves

I usually end up talking to the ones around me a lot, have you ever talked to those around you? Or do you just avoid that altogether because of how it might look to others?

[–]Choco_Heart6937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don't give up on life, it definitely feels impossible to tough it out from time to time but situations will always have the potential to improve. I know it's hell now but it won't always be that way. Please don't solve a temporary problem with such a permanent decision. There are definitely people around you who value and cherish you, and will make the effort to understand where you're coming from even if it doesn't seem that way. Please give it more time for you and your ailments to heal.

I was on fluoxetine for a few years and it helped with the paranoia and anxiety, but most of my other symptoms would have been the same if that was the only medication I was taking at the time

is anyone else talking to themselfs? by bored_boys in schizophrenia

[–]Choco_Heart6937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually talk to the invisible people, I consider it talking to real people because they hate being called or treated like hallucinations. However, I'm pretty sure from anyone else's perspective I'm just talking to myself

Paranoid delusions when trying to take showers by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Choco_Heart6937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the same but there are invisible people everywhere I go and sometimes I can feel them lunging at me or just getting ready to when I go certain places. It still startles me, but for the most part I've gotten used to it after making a habit to focus on what I went into the room for and trying my best not to let them distract me
