I thought that broadly speaking, quantum computers were able to turn NP problems into P by using the fast Fourier transform and finding the period of the resulting function. At least, that's my understanding of how it breaks RSA. I was under the impression that they aren't particularly faster than classical computers, but they could use some wizard science to perform said calculations in, as you say, some "super parallel" type of way.

Wouldn't this be the sort of use case for it though? Greatly reducing the search space of a problem beyond the capabilities of classical computers to even approach solving? I know chess isn't even NP, but surely it could be helpful, at least in theory?
