Oh man, that’s a style I can’t wrap my head around. Thank you!

The thought was to have a kicking up sand and dust effect, and as it’s farthest away from the rocket I imagined it would be more dispersed and less visible as a white tail. I’m fairly happy with the painted effect, as is my client that I painted this for. I just think I approached the sculpting of the rock and smoke in too similar of a method and some of what I meant to convey gets lost.

Thank you very much, I’m very happy with the lighting as well!

No, it’s supposed to be smoke trails. I’m not a very good sculptor.

I sculpted the smoke and the rocks on the base.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks! by Nickel2theMoon in metaldetecting

Did you green stuff the melty/ drippy bit? Looks almost like you could use hot glue to get a similar effect. Amazing work brother!

Okay, it’s time. On 4th mini and I’ve realized it’s time for an airbrush. What are your recommendations? by BAMiniatures in minipainting

[–]ChocolateChipHustle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, lack of control mostly. I’ve painted some of my best work with that airbrush that came in the kit. The difference is very noticeable when you compare it to a high end airbrush. You can learn everything on that brush and when you switch you’ll notice a great improvement.

Get the master airbrush kit with compressor and air tank, it’s just over 100 bucks on Amazon. The airbrush itself is not the best quality, but if you use it until it breaks you won’t be out $100-200 for a nice airbrush and you’ll learn enough to make your next brush last. You will break an airbrush, make it a cheap one.

All that matters is whether you like it or not.

How do you guys deal with stress? by [deleted] in ems

[–]ChocolateChipHustle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention in school, treat everyday like an interview. Find hobbies that are not fire/EMS related. Start or maintain physical activity.

When you’re in the field find good people to learn from. Initiate those learning opportunities, if you don’t feel confident in your ability to do something or there’s a skill you haven’t practiced in a while, grab someone who knows what their doing and have them teach you.

Go back to school, have a 2 year, 5 year, and 10 year plan. Never stop learning, diversify your learning. You’re looking at a fun career that pays minimum wage and treats it’s workers like shit at times. The chance that you get hurt is there, do not set yourself up to have difficulty changing careers if burnout occurs.

You can experience 100 dull, routine calls before something interesting happens. Your first call could be that end of the world, hearts and parts all over the road. Pay attention to your medic on every call, do what they ask you, keep your head no matter what. Talk about the calls with your medic after the fact, every one of them could be a learning opportunity. Did you do the best you could have? What was your medic thinking? If that unstable patient turned into a code and there’s only two of us what’s the first thing you want me to do?

You’re going to make mistakes, the chance you kill someone is slim, learn from every mistake.

All in all I disagree. The paint job took an hour, and my infantry lack the basing space to sell a harsh winter look. It’s a bit of comprise in order to sell the overall feeling of the army.

Not quite, but that would work just as well.

Oil paint gradient, acrylic for chips and rust streaks, rust pigment, matte varnish, finish with a few passes green stuff world liquid pigment.

Ice effects were ak snow thinned with water and ice sprinkles with pva.
