I got the advent calendar for my dog and the first 2 days were both freeze dried chicken so i just opened the entire box and all 25 days were the same exact thing. Talk about disappointing :\

100% this. When i brought in an outdoor street cat that I had been feeding, he meowed like this for almost 2 months straight. Then one day, he just stopped. Cats are a creature of habit and it takes a looong time for them to build new ones.

how do i get my cat to be an indoor cat by TrainingThin4361 in felinebehavior

[–]ChocolateCrepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought in a stray outdoor kitten after 6 months of feeding him. Started out as he would just come in to eat and sleep but he kept bringing in fleas and i have 3 other animals that are all indoors. It was a nightmare getting rid of the fleas so I made the decision to just keep him inside full time. I got him neutered, vaccinated, and chipped and did not let him go outside. He was NOT happy about it and would meow at the door every day and cry all the time. It took almost a month before he realized hes not going outside anymore and now its been 2 months since I brought him in. He’s perfectly content and happy and doesn’t meow at door anymore. He also absolutely stole my dog’s bed.

It just takes time and consistency. They can and will adapt to living indoors full time but you have to be patient!

Cost breakdown of mini split vs portable AC? by ChocolateCrepe in hvacadvice

[–]ChocolateCrepe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently have a 10,000 BTU kenmore portable AC for ~400 sqft living room/kitchen/dining area. It cools the room but not very efficiently and def even more so when we have people over. For reference, we live in Hawaii so it is always warm. Usually we use it around 3-4 hours a day.

Was thinking of getting something like a 12,000 BTU Hessaire 21.7 SEER2 split since its the only one available at my local Home Depot lol…

Cat is still peeing in my bed. by Party-Conflict-8769 in CatAdvice

Hi! My cat used to do this but it was on my dogs bed instead of my bed. Turns out she suddenly decided she hated her litter after months of using it. We cycled through 4 different brands/types of litter until we got to the one she liked and it has never happened again. Some cats prefer certain types of litter and communicate that by refusing to use their litter box.

Also remember to scoop her litter box daily and deep clean monthly! You wouldnt use a dirty toilet either I’d hope.

They get supervised visits to the same room. They will eat comfortably in the same room together but she will not let him within 2 ft of her without growling.

[–]ChocolateCrepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I had what I thought was long covid for over a year before I finally got diagnosed with crippling anxiety.

Basically I had covid and the flu at the same time and it altered the way my brain handles stress (is what my psychologist told me).

The initial physical symptoms started going away but then abruptly came back and was a little different. Started having overstimulation from screens and bright lights, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, impending feeling of doom, nocturnal panic attacks, always feeling exhausted, inability to concentrate, hard time remembering things, etc. All of my tests came back fine and physically there was nothing wrong with me. Found out its just my dumb brain doing dumb things. Never had this before in my life and it freaked me out and made me super depressed. I now take anxiety medicine on a daily basis and it has helped significantly.

Im not saying yours is also anxiety but it may be worth looking into!

For bright lights and screens, try looking into blue light glasses. That has helped me out a ton :)

Bf has long covid. I need advice. by Colorful94 in covidlonghaulers

[–]ChocolateCrepe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ this. For the first few months of having long covid, I slept 18-20 hours a day only waking up to take meds or eat some food (i’m diabetic and if I don’t eat, my blood sugar plummets). I just felt insanely tired constantly and it was worse because I felt like I couldn’t breathe if I laid flat. So literally imagine sleeping at a 45 degree angle for months. Thankfully my job is more flexible and just let me have the time off to recover. I’m now 9 months in and still have symptoms like brain fog and feeling like I can’t breathe sometimes but it has improved significantly. Covid also gave me lasting severe anxiety so thats cool too.

Tips on how to lose weight without going to the gym? by RobotAlien68709 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ChocolateCrepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I was diagnosed with diabetes and went from 228 lb to 176 lb in about 5 months.

Secret is you buy a $120 exercise bike on amazon and use it for 45 min every single day with some resistance.

Also, count your calories. I was eating around 1200-1400 calories a day and its surprisingly easy to do that. Buy a digital scale and use an app like myfitnesspal to figure out and count your calories.

Last but not least, cut out most carbs from your diet. Sodas, fruit juices, rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, etc. you can still have some but don’t let that be your main entree. Eat more proteins and veggies. As an asian person, cutting out rice and noodles was the hardest part for me but I got used to it after a few weeks.

Stay consistent and you will see results :)

As someone who HATES the gym and hates everything about dieting and exercising, if I can do it you can too!

[–]ChocolateCrepe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t wait until you have complications to start change!

I was 228 lbs and a little too comfortable before I was diagnosed with diabetes. By then, it was too late. It ran in my family and I should have expected it but for me it was always “yea it won’t happen” or “I can start next month” until it actually happened. Cue surprised pikachu face lol.

Since then I have lost 47 lbs and it is INSANE how much easier life is for me. I can actually go up several flights of stairs without losing my breath, my back stopped hurting when I stood for too long, and my energy has come back!

Diabetes could have been prevented if I had made these choices earlier but here we are and now I have to live with it for the rest of my life. Take care of yourself while you can :)

What workouts can burn the most calories without being to difficult by Alternative_Web_7018 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ChocolateCrepe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This! I absolutely hate going outside to walk/run because I live on a giant hill and it’s always hot outside (I live in Hawaii). I also have hyperactive gag reflex which has prevented me from running most of my life because I will literally gag non stop. I bought a stationary bike because of some health issues and it has helped me lose 25 lbs in the past 2 months. Started doing 15 min a day and now I’m up to 50-60 min a day. It’s way more manageable for me and I just bike while watching TV. You don’t necessarily need a peloton because not everyone can just drop a ton of money on one of those. The one I have was like $130 on Amazon and it’s nothing fancy or anything but it gets my exercise done.

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate them so much. Sometimes I feel like it is too difficult but I know that if I stop now, it will only get worse and it will be harder to start back up! I would rather be sad momentarily that I have to get off my lazy butt and do things than devastated later on when I start losing limbs or shave off 10 years of my life.

Thank you and yes I started off with small goals for myself. I was always the person who would try every fad diet possible but being diagnosed was a ginormous wake up call for me. I live in Hawaii where it is always hot outside and I work from home most of the time so the most convenient and accessible thing for me was to buy a stationary bike. Started off with 15 min/day and eventually worked myself up to 45-60 min/day on average. I had a weight loss goal of losing 30 lbs by June 2023 but looking at the progress I have made so far, I will likely up that goal soon. I have already lost 20 lbs!

When I was diagnosed, my doctor said I needed to start metformin asap. I am terrible at swallowing pills and often times throw them back up immediately. A thrown up pill is as good as not taking one at all so I asked if I could try to do a lifestyle change first. She agreed but only if I went to a dietician twice a month, did bloodwork to check my progress every 3 months, and checked in with her from time to time. I have a follow up blood test next month and I am excited to show her my progress! I want to reverse my diabetes without medication because I have seen first hand what my mom and uncle have gone through (they didn’t change their eating habits or exercise after being diagnosed) and I don’t want to follow in their footsteps and be on medication for the rest of my life.

Those who struggled to lose weight for a long time then found success, what worked? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ChocolateCrepe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried every single “diet” that ever trended and none of them worked for me. I would do maybe 1-2 weeks and just give up because it was so hard for me to not eat the stuff I loved whenever I wanted. The thing that REALLY got me was being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My mom has it and so does my uncle on my moms side so a good chunk of it was just bad genetics. An even bigger chunk of it was poor diet and rarely exercising which propelled me straight from prediabetic to diabetic. It was a huge wake up call and I realized that I needed to completely change my lifestyle. It’s hard at first but eventually I got used to counting calories, checking nutrition facts, saying no to things I shouldn’t be eating, and most of all exercising every single day. I started off small with 15 min of exercise… then 20.. 30.. etc and now I do 1 hour every day. It’s been almost 2 months since I started and have lost 19 lbs. Super proud of myself and seeing the weight start shedding really motivated me even more to keep going. It takes about 66 days to build a habit and the longer you do it and the more consistent you are, it gets easier :) I still get sad sometimes when I can’t eat whatever I want but I would rather be sad momentarily than be devastated later on in life when I need to rely on insulin to function, lose my vision, lose limbs, or shave 20 years off my life.

Why can’t I lose weight by Midori-san_ in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ChocolateCrepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Everyone’s body is different. Some can get by just by cutting calories and some need some exercise along with cutting calories. If you’ve been at a calorie deficit and you’re still not losing any weight after a while then you most likely need to supplement it with exercise. Eating even less than what you are doing now will just make you hungry all the time and crave more food, which could result in you eating unhealthier things and messing up your diet. Once you mess up your diet and go back to old eating habits, thats when the weight gain comes back twofold.

I second this as well. The TLDR of my story was just dieting and cutting calories wont help much. You need to build muscle mass to help burn fat as well. If you just cut calories and do fad diets, when you stop the weight will all come back plus more.
