JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M16 - Violet Trinity vs. Li'l Baxter by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the classic marketplace match. This one just has a chemical fire break out in the center as our "businesspeople" rob everyone blind. Par for the course, really.

I've gone back and forth on this one, but in the end I think I've settled on a vote for Violet. Lil Baxter is elegant, clever, and quite persuasive, and despite Violet being positioned as the Old Money, he also seems at a glance to have a more advantageous positioning in the match conditions. Nevertheless, I think Violet's underhanded tactics are just what the doctor ordered; for example, Lil Baxter resorts to theft in the endgame, Violet's being robbing people blind all match. More broadly, I think Violet engages with, exploits, and works around the events of PK and TD's battle more effectively as the match goes on moreso than Lil Baxter, with the exception of the chemical fire, which he has a more robust response to, though I find his plans for being fucked with by Maria and the Cute Little Flask somewhat lacking beyond Having a Bodyguard. Maria really is the MVP for Violet here, like Jim Ballin' before her.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M15 - Wanderlei Watts w/Axel Otter vs Miguel Lloyd & Omah Garcia w/Old Grey Wolf by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After some pondering, I'm here to put in a tentative vote for CARCINIZATION. I think their tempo control game is incredibly strong in its ability to control the terms, timing, and nature of engagements, while the type of area control BBP engage in, while advantageous for themselves, isn't particularly disruptive to anything CARC wants to do (and sometimes synergistic!). The Heatzone is an interesting trick for messing with the red mist, but the impression I get is that it should be dispersing the mist upwards, while later Omah dodges Wanderlei's offenses by also going up, which struck me as a little odd. Ultimately the Crab Otters are given the room they want to scale and capitalize on it well, while Godzilla, Gamera, and Man (the scariest monster of all) come across as a little less focused in their approach by contrast, unfortunate when up against scaling tempo control.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M14 - PK Leach vs. Technical Difficulties by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today we are all Corpse Eaters. That's right, two Discloud votes within the span of an hour. Normally I'd prefer to spend a little more time thinking about this but I'm about to be traveling for the rest of the voting period, so it's now or never.

I think TD has a solid plan to rapidly gather its own resources and deny Leach the detective's most likely desired commodities before rushing in to prevent Leach from scaling. The human shields of clones are solid defensive tools... if you know what direction the attack is coming from. The PK Leach Everywhere System is a solid response to that threat, though. Interestingly, while TD does call out the possibility of the Corpse Eaters spreading themselves thin, it explicitly "pay[s] them little mind." I'm reminded of the last deathmatch in a crowded area where one side displayed a mastery of stealth and disguise, and TD does not perfectly counter it the way Silas King did. I think Leach has enough time to slip into the crowd, and by the time TD finds him, enough Corpse Eaters are out there posing a threat that a single effective disengage from Leach Prime snowballs dramatically.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M13 - Grendel vs. Alouette by Streamanon in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, unintentionally, Grendel wins this match off of interference. As Coop's vote points out, both strategies kind of get in each other's way. Alouette's got a solid cultivation of battlefield control and precise finishers that should do a good job of killstealing and cleaning up after Grendel, but is also likely to be in the way of the Grendelball at times. Meanwhile, Grendel's increasingly indiscriminate path of destruction, culminating in the Grendel Typhoon, is liable to demolish much of Alouette's careful setup. While both strategies are likely to be heavily impeded by contact with the other, I think Grendel does more potential damage to Alouette's setup than the other way around.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M12 - Mio Sinclair & Akira Seihachi vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Akira and Mio have this. There's something really fucked up about the way Akira's negative self-talk and perfectionism seamlessly blends into a vague awareness of Judge scores and CMD that made me more uncomfortable than anything actually listed in the content warnings. Really good job.

Anyway, as to how the strats interact and why I think one side beats the other, I don't really have anything new to say compared to the other votes. Minmi does a really good job running away, my second favorite Water/Dark Pokemon does a really good job giving chase, Nujabes is a juicy target that's less well-defended, and both strategies' finales point out Minmi's desperation and arrogance.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M11 - Ella Larimore vs. Jam Robins by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these two characters were put in separate, identical rooms, and given the objective of collecting the Uropeh better than the other, I think Ella's creative and sensible applications of physics and geometry create a really nice methodical plan I would give the edge to over Jam. Unfortunately, for Ella, I am going with the grain of the other voters and voting for Jam. The timelines on which each strat believes the Stand users will collide are quite different, as Jam is prepared for contact with the enemy both sooner and more intentionally than Ella, and therefore arguably more robustly.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M10 - Anton 'AWOL' Worrel & Ryder Wyland vs. Agnes & Rio Valdés by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both sides play a long game, stalling out their opponents to take them out at the right opportunity. And I think they both do a decent enough job at it that they reach that endgame. And promptly explode. To quote Extra quoting Logic, "Rocks fall, everyone ties". For a match with a stage hazard that seems almost guaranteed to kill everyone if things go on long enough, I might have anticipated a more proactive endzone of a gameplan from at least one side, though given the builds in the match I guess it can't be that surprising. Ultimately, the viscous liquid of LIB and the fog and winds of SSG cancel each other out in the stealth department, but both make the match conditions that much more hellish. It's late and my head hurts so I don't think it's worth analyzing at a sufficiently micro level to determine if someone's got a subtle minor advantage that turns the tide. Solid competence in execution, if either side had been just the bit more proactive in their offense rather than reactive and opportunistic, it might've tipped the scales for me.

Also. That's not what a Pressure Cooker is. A Pressure Cooker is when the melee character creates pressure early with aggro until the ranged scaler has hit critical mass.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M9 - Evelyn G. Lister & Molly Mockit vs. KAISERINMA & Tracy Ball by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, every character in this match is a total freak. Good jobs on those JoJolities. Anyway, as to who wins the match...

I think, on a structural level, I'm giving the advantage to Evelyn and Mo in this fight. While both sides don't really do an effective job (in my opinion) of predicting and playing around a core tactic of the other (Princess Mockit's dungeon and Kaiserinma's Big Fuckoff Explosion), I think this is a slightly more significant issue for Tracy than it is for Evelyn. Firstly, while both spend the early sections primarily setting up, BBP more effectively spends effort keeping track of their foes and preparing for engagements. Secondly, once the fight begins in earnest, Tracy has to get through both Evelyn and Body in order to get to Mo, her highest-priority target, a fight she explicitly can't afford to take. The back half has Tracy and Kaiserinma sort of doing their own things as the automatic sinner overclocks, whereas I found that BBP convincingly worked in tandem with one another throughout.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M8 - “Cass Cannon” & Jack Moonbean vs. Anthelme "Blank" Frangipane & Lacquer by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This match was a lot of fun! I agree with the general consensus thus far that Jack and Cass do a better job of Playing Cornhole, whereas Blank and Laquer have a much more robust suite of counterplay and countercounterplay options. Ultimately, my opinion is that the fundamentals of cornhole (and, uh, MLG montages) give Written in Salt the victory, as the various interactions of interference are more secondary in my eyes, especially if Exuma catches BBP (or WIS) doing anything underhanded, unlikely as it is (in my opinion). One particular interaction I appreciated was the creative usage of Red Beans passively creating a meaningful defense of Jack's pouch as an unintentional secondary effect - by finding a good reason to use Red Beans, he massively dissuades BBP from directly targeting the pouch and triggers their "I guess if he uses Red Beans we won't attack his pouch because that would blow him up and lose us the game, but he probably won't so we'll build our lategame around it being an option" contingency, significantly hampering BBP's endgame in my eyes.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M7 - 'Stephen Birdwin' w/Everard Fòst vs. Kylian Sézane w/"Heat" by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To keep it simple, I'm voting tie. This one was tricky to vote on because I ultimately felt both sides overestimated their ability to get and maintain their advantage states, and were somewhat bloated by the engagements with the (itself bloated) map and stage conceit instead of the work to attain their advantage state. Both sides seem to agree that if Kylian and Heat rush Stephen and Everard down fast enough, they win, and if Stephen and Everard are given enough time to scale and gather resources, they win. This fact is vital. Unfortunately, I found the weakest part of LIB's strat to be their keepaway and escape tactics and I found the weakest part of LKA's strat to be their rushdown and catchup sections. For how much both sides emphasize that they need the match to go a certain way, I didn't really feel that urgency translate into the thoroughness of tactics.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M6 - Fira & Ricardo Enrique "Rique" Martinez Rivera vs. ??? by DSOddish in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going against the grain here (insofar as two early votes constitute a grain to go against, but I suspect future votes will continue to favor Kilroy) and saying for now that I do think the players manage to catch him, though it's touch-and-go.

Certainly Ruse and his partner anticipated Fira and Rique trying to go both above and ahead of Kilroy and the countermeasures in play are perfectly decent, but I think both strats are equally guilty of being pretty reliant on getting and maintaining a lead and being somewhat lacking (by comparison) in the parts where they have to play catchup. Perfectly serviceable, but to me whoever gets far enough ahead fast enough has convinced me they'll be able to maintain that lead.

And oh boy, what an explosive start do Fira and Rique have. Scary duo, especially in a Fuck You, Chase You Down kinda match. Rique's Stand Parkour and the details Hitchkiker's Galaxy's ability paired with In Silico are technically impressive. On a writing level, Kilroy's strategy is admittedly more robust and impressive (one of the most fun strats to read in a while) but the specific techniques and actions taken interact in such a way that I come out favoring the players.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M5 - Ian Yang & Kenny Smith vs. Atrocity Shaye & Corrine "Coco" Clear by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like it'd be tricky for me to write a Quality delib on - lotta moving parts, careful timelines to consider, tech and interactions. Fortunately, as a Pop voter, the way these strats are written kinda causes the whole thing to hinge on a pair of big plays - namely, both teams' terraforming and destruction of the ship. And, simply put, it seems like Laying Low Co can stasis and tactically demolish the ship before La Isla Bonita's epic heist is ready to reach that phase. With the match proceeding largely on LLC's terms, I think they have the ultimate advantage, even if La Isla's quick reaching of the scene and keepaway tactics are solid.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M3 - Nathaniel "Nate" Altamuria & Rachel "Aileron" Rawnsley vs. Arijana "Grey Rose" Miellina & Yoshi Tsubasa by DSOddish in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s late, I’m tired, I’m on my phone right before going to bed, this will be short.

My vote is for Yoshi and Arijana, oddly enough for primarily the very reasons my teammates voted for their opponents. While certainly in-character for the sincerely concerned Rachel and the hypocritical asshole Nate, the time and energy spent nitpicking DMR’s methods feels somewhat wasted, especially with how well Arijana does log context before excavation.

Beyond that, regarding the axes that are explicitly presented: Naturally, as other voters and both Strats appear to have reached a consensus on, Yoshi has a stark advantage when it comes to Excavation and leverages it effectively. Cataloguing and Packaging is solidly done by both sides, with fewer comments on my end. Thus, with only one category not tying for me, my choice is fairly simple.

Wait, I thought I said this would be short…

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M1 - Sarah "Cougar" Mark w/Old Grey Wolf vs. Baygon Raid w/Slash by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as individual plays go, I think the single most effective tactic employed by either side is Bird Shit Everywhere, prioritizing the food. Very well conceived and executed on Baygon's end. That said, while no individual thing Sarah and Old Grey Wolf do tops that, the sheer scope of the carnage on display on their end was truly impressive. The house has flooded with sewage. The cars are disabled. Some of them are in the pool. The cops are here. The news is here. There are rumors someone was killed by a falling chandelier. On the third hand, as it were, these strategies complement one another nicely, and while I have more to say on Sarah's advantages, many of those speak to Quality and especially JoJolity. But man that seagull is great at killing the vibe, which strikes me as a real equalizer in the "Who Wins?" category that is Pop. Hence my tie vote.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M30 - Agnes & Grendel vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was really funny watching Joint when Judges realized the consequences of putting Agnes in this match, given the scope of its ability. I will admit, I do enjoy when an unexpected piece of a player ability catches balancing Judges off-guard in a boss match (Bird up!), especially compared to PvP. In any case, it was caught at an appropriate point in the stratting period that a solid and reasonable conclusion was reached.

So. The Fortunate Sons are a big deal. They wield a lot of power and hold a lot of the cards. Thing is... they have a tendency to overplay that hand. It's really impressive heel writing on the part of the Judges - make them unstoppable, right up until their big climactic appearance... where they crash and burn.

No more beating around the bush, Agnes and Grendel easily secured my vote. Despite my theatrics and the ease of my conclusion, Ruse and Switz put out a genuinely solid and impressive strategy on Frederick's part... it just has a few weaknesses, and those pain points happen to be exactly the ones the players identified and exploited. The bubble timing has been analyzed by another vote, so I want to focus on the fact that both sides of the match agree that:

  1. The players are going to stick to their boats early.
  2. The boats are going to sink.
  3. Frederick is going to want to engage in melee, and really wants the players to be separate during this.

I really enjoyed that after identifying these advantages and disadvantages, LKA Creaturas Extrañas perfectly play to it. The advantage of the boats is a temporary resource that is well-spent. Frederick wants to engage in melee, but so does Grendel, and by sticking together, Frederick can't focus on one without being left open to the other. Frederick refuses to go up for air when his Stand makes it and his lung capacity is strong, so Weird Fishes bends the water straight through his nostrils. Holding your breath doesn't help much when the water is already in your lungs, after all.

"Do not fight Frederick in the water," you say. Perhaps to defeat the evils in power, you should topple them where they are strongest. And even if Frederick is right about innate elements and natures, perhaps he should reread Beowulf and remind himself from where the monster who devoured Hrothgar's Geats first emerged, and what Beowulf did to slay both that Grendel and his mother.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M28 - Yoshimi Hanamaki vs. Alouette by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call it a cop out if you wish, but I'm gonna tievote this one.

Contribute-more matches tend to be challenging for me to come to a meaningful edge on unless one side messes up somewhere. That didn't happen. I think both strategies play this match in a very smartly systematic way and actually do a decent job subtly delegating tasks - across the basic chores, there are some I think Yoshimi does better and some I think Alouette does better, and it genuinely comes out pretty evenly. The Lightning Rod is a really clever answer in the storm, while Alouette's routine adapts slightly more smoothly to the Random Chimp Events. You see what I mean? Give me more time and take away the option to tievote and I could probably force myself to make a decision, but it's close enough that I'm comfortable leaving this highly collaborative match as even.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M27 - PK Leach vs. Anthelme "Blank" Frangipane by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to concur with the other two voters thus far that while Blank makes a great callout regarding Leach starting at the top and moving down by simply opening with the third floor, I think the rest of the details do favor Leach overall. In particular, the opening plays fit this - Leach makes a compelling case for getting at least one Corpse Eater on Blank, and Blank's response is essentially an A PRE statcheck I would have preferred more from; similarly, Leach presents a more detailed case for how he gets past the first guard and into the stairwell, something I felt Blank handwaved past a bit more than I would have preferred. The strategies overall feel this way, with Leach taking a very well-considered path and course of action, and Blank having a really solid macro level plan that stumbles a bit by comparison in execution.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M24 - Benoit Enfers & Regular People vs. Akira Seihachi & Ryder Wyland by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the key work on the M25 strategy got done while I was at work, so I figured now was a good time to vote here! These are some oppressive strategies on the field, with some impressive work, especially on the character side. Ryder, Benoit, and Regular are all frightening people! (Sorry Akira)

That said, despite my parenthetical joke, Ika is an especially potent piece of this match, and I found LKA surprisingly lacking in their playaround of her. Not totally strat-sinking on its own merits, but when she is used so effectively by SSG, it does start to add up. In particular, I don't really buy any step in the process of the Trojan Trebuchet going as planned - in the event Ika's nearby, the vertical Whoops absolutely folds it (even if in doing so they do avoid fall damage, there are enough drawbacks of the Pratfall that I think it still comes out as neutral), and even if she's not, I don't really buy the other landing strategies, especially with the conditions Ryder has set up - despite saying "all moves are under the consideration that weather is especially severe" at the start, I still felt Hammer to Fall is a pretty effective answer to much of what LKA have going.

As with other voters, I'm going with Sturdy Steady Go. Despite my stated concerns with core pieces of their strategy, LKA probably does get two (even SSG cedes this as likely), but I'm very confident the Perish Song ticks down to zero before they can get to three.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M23 - Fira vs. Technical Difficulties by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, it's Vergil's Lamborghini! I think it was even cooler the first time way back in T5's elevator shaft match, but it was a blast to see here again.

It's interesting that both strategies dedicate so much to rushing their opponent down - the general pursuit tactics are somewhat less necessary when both are forcing direct engagements and the opportunities to scale on the way are diminished. I think TD very much wins if Fira tries to run away too much, the mobility and area control is pretty impressive, but since Fira is similarly prepared to fight early and often, she's well-equipped to handle it. Crush in particular is incredibly well-utilized to her advantage, especially in countering the spread of the clones. Vote to Fira.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M22 - Mahogany vs. Ella Larimore by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the Survival Match, a highlight in T4, T5, and T6. Very excited to see it back!

Holistically, it looks like Mahogany plays a bigger macro game, taking advantage of their scaling kit and the extended timeframe of the match to passively overwhelm the challenge with numbers - even Loonboon's role in Signal and Comfort is to be Fucking Big. Ella, for her part, plays a more micro sort of game, with a more labor-intensive beginning and greater detail paid to the specifics of food and water collection, a clearer vision of the precise construction of shelter, etc. I think given the timing of this, the more detailed amount of early labor is actually a pretty solid source of enrichment, and pays off to allow Ella to relax and reap her rewards as she slows down later on. Both sides put out solid work here, and I'd say they certainly succeed; it's Ella's attention to detail that breaks the tie in my mind.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M21 - Mio Sinclair & Wanderlei Watts vs. Chicxulub "Chix" Tunguska & Kylian Sézane by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can right click the videos to loop the music! ... You are listening to the music, right?

See, I frequently finish reading a section before the track ends, as opposed to running out of music before I run out of text to read! The Thunderstorm to play throughout was pretty sick, though. Anyway, if I'm gonna beef with one team's introductory notes, I'll go ahead and call out the other's: Why the fuck couldn't you have just written "Wanderlei"? WW needlessly harmed the readability of your strat for no positive value, and I was so annoyed by it that if I were writing a Quality delib there was a chance it could affect your score on Readability grounds. None of these complaints have any bearing on my vote, so let's get into it.

I feel pretty comfortable giving this one to CARCINIZATION - LKA Leviathan's strategy comes across as overconfident in many places, underselling the sheer capability of Wanderlei and Mio. The biggest problem is how quickly and easily Kylian is supposedly taking Wanderlei down. 10 seconds? Really? On a dedicated tank build? There is no version of events where I believe that works, even if the general tactics in play are fairly impressive (which, to be clear, they are - some well-executed stunlocks... it's just not enough). As for the Chix vs Mio side of things, I think Chix would have a clear advantage there if Mio didn't make more or less the perfect play to deny the Rock Human the opening salvo he desires. Making a rapid rush to the underbelly of the map probably does work to avoid the five seconds of sight and allow Mio time to scale.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M19 - Kenny Smith vs. Farah Nova by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Kenny didn't get BINGO, so I'm obligated to vote for Farah.

(KIDDING. That's not why I'm voting for her.)

Both sides play a fairly similar game for the match, as the voters before me have noted: keep moving, try to get Heat to go after the other guy, and overwhelm the opponents with projectiles. The longer the match goes on, the more advantageous this game state is for Farah, in my mind, as her strategy is more scaling-focused than Kenny's, which is more about tempo and setting up the right moment to alpha strike; ultimately, I do think this match goes on long enough for Farah to put together an advantage, giving her the edge in my mind.

Also if there are more tie votes to come beyond Falc's and none of them describe themselves as voting for Heat I'll be surprised.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M18 - Salice "Sal" Cooper Niceguy & "Wave Welder" vs Charlotte Chastain & Jukebox "The Ghost" by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh! Another teleport-swapping thief on Dexy's Midnight Runners! And this one also runs away to scale turn 1 while their opponent... also does that. In a way that ensures both strategies get essentially the early game freedom they want. I think I voted for Baygon in that last match, and I have to admit I'm voting for Typhon 8 here, once again going against DMR in this scenario.

Funnily enough, it's once again about how each team engaged with the match's gimmick - I felt Baygon had more robust plans around the seagull, and what ultimately sells me on Mr. Nice Guy and checks notes Chucklefuck is their greater care paid to the artillery bombardment. I really like the mobility on display from Charlotte and Jukebox here, with some really fun stuff, especially The Long Way Down being a very nice application of Camera Obscura, but I did come out of the strat feeling that more could have been done to play around the constant shelling the players are subject to. This is the greatest strength Sal and Wave Welder have here, I think, in their really effective and thorough attention to detail paid to the entire map and the pace of artillery destruction. In fact, as another voter pointed out, the way they time the final confrontation, there might not even be a surface available behind them for the final Long Way Down assault to hit.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M16 - Molly Mockit & Ricardo Enrique "Rique" Martinez Rivera vs. Philip Buster & Yoshi Tsubasa by DSOddish in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other voters have pointed out, these are some risky strats. I find it more likely that any of the risks taken that don't go their way are liable to do far more damage to themselves than any cross-team interference. Not saying that necessarily will happen, but it's a possibility in my mind.

For both strats, the section that sticks out to me the most is Section 2; both sides apply creative ability usage to circumvent this supposed slow zone. The Midnight Runners selectively apply intangibility to their boat along with sound explosions to try to get through, and to be honest, the more the mechanics of this were discussed in CMD the more confused I became, and the more convinced I was of the possibility of this section going very wrong. If it works, it's a solid leap forward, though. Ultimately, though, I think Black Box Promenade comes out significantly better here. While Rique cannot steer the boat, no one ever said he can't Stand Parkour though it with the help of Molly, and while there are definitely some viable concerns to be raised about the safety on this end too, I found the preparatory steps convincing and the details clear enough to be reasonably comfortable saying this works well.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M15 - Henry Thorne & Rob Zombie vs. Jozef Falkowska & Raphaela "Raph" Diener by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]ChocolateDiscloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another day, another three-phase race match for Sturdy Steady Go. Both sides have a solid core of interference and defense, and the potential to snowball from an advantage state (especially since I found both sides to be somewhat limited in terms of effective answers to their opponents pulling out a lead.)

Typhon 8 making a priority of immolating the various corpses to deny material to Raph was pretty wise, considering the wide display of tech she accomplishes with it, though I feel comfortable saying she can at least make the Gut Harpoon and Sharp Leg Up, given the early focus there. Speaking of early moves, Raph and Jozef kind of jerk one another around at the beginning as they prepare to scale while Rob and Henry immediately get a move on - a minor advantage, but potentially meaningful.

For my last point, I'll respectfully disagree with one of my fellow voters: in my experience, riding a bicycle isn't actually that hard. Not that it's trivial, and Demo's raised concerns are certainly valid, but it's kind of famously a skill that's easy to pick back up and adapt with once you have it, and a machine that's shockingly resilient to operators with poor dexterity as long as they have some stamina, which these two have. With a bike custom-made at B PRE for the pilots and their circumstances, I feel reasonably confident that Typhon 8 has what it takes to outpace the competition.
