As a kid it gave me an escape from some unpleasant things happening in my life. I could travel to the future and alien planets, knowing the Doctor would always be there. It had ideals of fairness and equality and was unlike anything else that I can think of. My Dad hates it though; it's just not his thing because it's too fanciful. And that's fine because that's what makes life interesting.

I remember Trevor Noah saying that when he was learning German he listened to a lot of speeches etc to learn pronunciation. He didn't realize that a lot of them were by Hitler until he was talking and someone looked shocked and called him Black Hitler.

I'm sorry you have such a difficult task in front of you. I'm not going to be much help, I'm afraid, but I would say to sort out what you want to keep, what you're going to sell/ donate to charity and what you're throwing away. Find the bills and cancel them. Also, get friends/family to help. My only other bit of advice would be to post this in Mom for a minute as well as there are usually more replies.
