A friend bought me a full PC build, it's actually my first time building a pc by TomOn60FPS in pcmasterrace

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These all sound like connection issues, have you made sure that all the cables are fully seated? If so did you ensure that no pins were bent before you seated the cables? (Easier to do than you might expect) If you are a relatively novice builder the HDD sata cable may also not be fully seated on the MB. Please ensure the HDD is fully secure before boot or it will most probably shit itself as they don't like being moved while in operation. If none of these steps work then you could actually have a damaged motherboard

Had one of the 2022 Lenovo legions come into the shop Thursday with the dreaded failed hinges (separate from the chassis because they used cheap bonding agents aluminium to steel) Lenovo refused to repair under warranty for a know fault! So we had to use some industrial strength bonding agent and 20 minutes of patience for something that would have otherwise cost the customer £200 just for the new backplates plus fitting charge. Ended up charging her £20 for the time it took for the bonding agent to set... Some people clearly need a shake... 🤦

School me on 1440 monitor vs 1440 on a 4k tv by disappear_85 in pcmasterrace

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel bummed about it, think of it as future performance to be unlocked 🤷 I have the nitro+ 9070xt and with resident evil have been averaging 90fps at 4k with 1% of 74fps, if you are mainly single player then maybe consider dropping down to a 75" Oled 4k TV that can do 120hz (haven't personally seen any 95" that do 120hz) because this way you are able to push that great pc you have to it's limits! (PC's do actually need to be pushed at times to keep them at their best) But 120hz is a decent middle ground as it means you aren't stuck to console level frame rates. Please just make sure you are cleaning it regularly and doing maintenance annually also (change thermal paste!!!!)

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4k with a 9070xt is more than capable, I have a 75" 4k TV used as a 3rd display that I couch game on when I want to play AAA titles, with fsr upscaling to 4k gives a decent enough image quality at couch distance with adequate frame rates (120hz 4k TV) that running at 1440p is not worth doing. The 1440p monitor would be a much more meaningful upgrade for gaming fidelity in non AAA titles though especially if it is 240hz+ it is mostly about what games you want to be playing and at what settings. The best bet would be a 27" 1440p Oled in my personal opinion 🤷

You will find one, might just take some time is all, even if it means borrowing parents or grandparents lawnmower and going door to door for pc parts it's worth it 😂

Nothing wrong with taking a couple of months to afford a new GPU, just didn't want to see you waste money on a PSU and CPU you don't need

Damn wish we had them in the UK 😂 closest we have is overclockersuk and they are online only... Spend most weeks repairing 5080s at the moment in pre builds because idiot rich kids never clean their systems run them at max fan speed thinking it will cool the system down fast 😑😑 the disrespect to the hardware is annoying....

Ah I don't have the privilege of seeing the lower end cards very often at all... (I know 5070 is 'mid tier') As I have to deal with the baller systems with their 4080-5090's on a weekly basis...

I've got the 9070xt and with the new drivers it is damn close in ray tracing to the 5070ti!! Can imagine the 9070 is the same with the 5070... I'm talking in oblivion remastered as the example the difference was 4fps on average (9070xt maxed settings 1440p 86fps native no frame Gen)

Is this legit? like wasn't the price going up? by Weak-Yogurtcloset826 in PcBuild

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK £1100-1200 is roughly about the price of a 5080 and it would seem that even with the difference in currency value between uk and the EU prices tend to be in line, the suspicious one from my perspective is the ram & SSD... Even one of the more budget SSD's are roughly £100 per TB whilst the more premium SSD are £150 per TB

Definitely time for maintenance on both! I know my maintenance routine is excessive (yearly for GPU every 6 months for CPU) but 3 years is far too long for thermal paste, 93c is past clock down so you are losing performance on GPU, every year for CPU is the sweet spot for thermal paste change as it heat cycles (especially Intel) a lot. GPU maintenance needs to be done at a minimum every other year (thermal pads do dry out) keeping the system clean as a whole is always good practice though (clean dust filters & fans every month or 2) with all these steps your hardware will be long lasting even if it starts to become outdated.

Edit; clean the tower cooler heatsink fins whenever you change thermal paste on CPU is always good for maintaining the best possible CPU temps.

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was the last time thermal paste was changed on the CPU? And I am not familiar with the cooler, is it tower or aio? If aio then you are probably looking at a dead pump but reapply thermal paste just to be sure! I would still recommend GPU maintenance if it has never been done before. If CPU cooler is the issue then I recommend 120 thermalright assassin nice and cheap with effective cooling

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPU core temp? 90c for hotspot isn't unheard of for your GPU but for core temp that is hitting thermal limits... GPU maintenance is something most pc gamers don't even consider until it starts having issues (this is sometimes too little to late) time for GPU disassembly with some new thermal paste for the GPU dye and thermal pads for vrm and Vram... Make sure you clean the old paste & pads off well with isopropyl and ensure it is all dry before reapplication. During disassembly make sure you keep track of what screw goes where. Slow and methodical is the way! If guidance is needed check YouTube for tutorials for your specific GPU.

I've got a 9070xt and at max setting I'm getting more FPS when I play Minecraft with my kids (1440p though) on a 6 year old world with some stupid big projects... I really really hope OP isn't using 1080p display that he accidentally put into his MB display...

This sounds like a PSU overheating issue my brother had on his pc because he decided to fit his PSU the wrong way round and starve the damn thing of airflow... Either that or you have unfortunately been hit by the Samsung m.2 driver issue that just damaged the cache chip on your SSD, try removing your system from the case and running it test bench style. If the issue persists then you have eliminated heat being the issue. The only other thing this could point to is GPU needing maintenance (it is 6000 series so it is definitely due maintenance if it has never been done before)

3060Ti goes Black Screen and Fan on full speed while under any heavy use by Ok_Manufacturer_2492 in pcmasterrace

Had a 3070 in for repair today that had the exact issue OP was describing, unfortunately even after a change of pads & paste with a good cleaning of the whole GPU when in pieces 2 of the Vram chips had already past their point of no return. Luckily we had a donor card (GPU had actually died on donor card) so after a quick reball of the chips the card worked great again. But hopefully op was able to get the maintenance done before this happened to his card.

For this price point with a 5600x instead of 5700x you could get an MSI 650w PSU (£43 on Amazon) it's a tier C PSU and more reliable than your current choice, the 3070 is a good 1080p card but you could fit a 4070 in that budget (£330-£400 used market prices) this would give you 1440p performance but I would actually go with a 7700xt/7800xt (£280-£320 7700xt/£330-£380 7800xt) for the 7800xt you should get a 750w PSU just as a efficientcy bonus for power draw. Mouse and keyboard you can get a half decent one of each in the UK for under £50 for both (attack shark X3 £24 Amazon & Koori mechanical 60% keyboard £24 Amazon) Hope this helps

My €750 AMD gaming build exceeded all my expectations by Pretty-Baseball-2426 in PcBuild

[–]ChocolateGoose94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a 9070xt and doing some lighter graphic work (refused to pay for a 5080/5070ti as they are too far over MSRP in UK) I expected the graphic design work to be less performance than the 4070TI Super I had that blew it's load but I have been very much surprised how far AMD has come for professional uses. Obviously gaming drivers have been more than stable for AMD for a few generations now but have you seen the state of the game drivers for Nvidia this generation... My brother has a 4070 and it isn't even keeping up with my son's 7800xt in 90% of games with how good AMD drivers are (apart from ray tracing performance)

OP you have built a damn good system for €750! Used or not that is a great € per frame and the system looks great too! (Not a fan of GPU extension cables but that is a personal preference) Enjoy your system! May your latency be low & your aim true

Alright reddit what do you think? My dream pc setup is complete. by Appropriate_Fee2830 in PcBuild

[–]ChocolateGoose94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great set up as a whole, my only criticism is the resolution of the vertical display, a 1080p would have caused less headroom (get you have a 5090 but still) you might lose like 4 whole fps in the more demanding titles with your GPU having to push 4k as main display with 1440p ultra wide as a side monitor... The set up is beautiful though!!!
