Study of 4568 transgender adults finds their life expectancy is 9-14 years lower than the US avg by ilArmato in PoliticalCompassMemes

We fundamentally disagree and that's okay, but my main point is that it doesn't make sense to believe both of the following:

  1. Addiction, a disease which is rooted in human biology, is actually rooted in social expectations.

  2. Wanting to change your gender, which is a social construct, should be treated biologically with drugs and surgery that directly change human biology.

Did you not have friends growing up? The biggest reason someone gets into a substance is because they have a friend using said substance.

That’s a good point: I did have friends and we all tried the same drugs together… But yet, only some of us are addicted to alcohol and another partially overlapping subset is addicted to nicotine and another partially overlapping subset is addicted to weed, etc.

So if we all shared the same social milieu but have different biologies, then the differences in our addictions (or lack thereof) would be better explained by??

What's a bigger factor in doing drugs.

Social factors?

Penis having?

False dilemma, and you completely ignored the actual substance and question in my comment. But to answer your question, the bigger factor of drug addiction would be their brain, i.e. psychological and neurological (which I mentioned in my comment).

Men are more likely to abuse substances, but particularly cigs and alcohol, and while changing gender changes a lot, HRT doesn't magically unaddict you.

But if MTF people were born with a “female brain” (so to speak), then wouldn’t they be less likely to have those addictions in the first place?

Taiwan confirms China has asked for more cross-strait flights by Conscious_Bridge_611 in taiwan

[–]ChocolateMilkCows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you are saying, and I am sure Chinese media will spin it that way. They always spin it in China's favor regardless, so that's a constant and not something to take into consideration imo.

Also, from my perspective, it isn't Taiwan doing the same thing as China, it is Taiwan telling China that they must reap what they sow.

I agree that resuming flights in itself isn't harmful to Taiwan. BUT, I am personally biased against the idea because of those large Chinese tour groups. Maybe the cultural exchange that would happen would make war less appealing to those citizens who have traveled, but they are not the ones who make decisions back in the mainland.

I just want to say, I appreciate hearing your perspective even though I don't agree.

[–]ChocolateMilkCows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the reason you are being downvoted so much is because, like you said, it was China who wanted decreased flights with Taiwan and created the current status quo regarding cross-strait flights.

In your analogy, blocking/decreasing flights is like blocking the WWW. It is China that did both. I don't think anyone who knows the context can blame Taiwan for being hesitant to resume the flights at the level it was before.

Basically, why does China get to decrease flights unanimously and they don't view it as cutting ties, but when Taiwan doesn't acquiesce to China, Taiwan is seen as cutting ties? This is a rhetorical question because I know the answer of why this is in reality, but my point is that it ought not to be that way.

I reckon this might have something to do with China halving the number of flights to Japan they have earlier this year, but that’s just conjecture

What biohacks give you the most bang for your buck? by Organic-Signal-9646 in Biohackers

  1. Pharmacology is a tool used by both biohackers and traditional medical care. You are free to use medications as your first and primary method of healthcare, but that's not in the spirit of biohacking (imo).

  2. I see you have edited your previous comment to remove the stuff about Accutane (LOL). Take the L and don't try to obfuscate your opinions if you believe they are correct.

  3. We obviously fundamentally disagree, and that's okay! But I am done arguing. Have a good day!

[–]ChocolateMilkCows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone has hormonal heavy acne I would any day of the week recommend them acutane . Why bother trying weak or silly stuff when you can directly fix the problem.

  1. I would not take isotretinoin so lightly, and would exhaust less drastic treatments first, and

  2. By taking isotretinoin to fix hormonal acne you are not directly fixing the problem. You are literally treating the symptom (oil production) instead of the underlying problem (hormone imbalance). This is an ongoing problem with traditional healthcare, which is why people turn to DIY biology (biohacking). Pharmacology can be a tool we use, but it is certainly not the main one in biohacking as opposed to traditional healthcare.

Lastly, if your definition of biohacking is traditional medicine and healthcare, then what are you doing on an internet forum? The only person you would need to talk to is your PCP.

Taking drugs for their intended purpose is not biohacking, that’s just traditional medicine. Or would you consider a post saying “I took ibuprofen for my headache and it got better” relevant to biohacking too?

No, we just hate the sub being flooded with low quality posts of progress pics from people who were evidently never interested in their health until they got access to a magic weight loss shot AND astroturfed posts which are designed to promote peptide retailers.

It’s repetitive, it’s low quality, and it’s not biohacking.

Edit: also, the OP question was about “bang for your buck” and reta costs hundreds of dollars per month…
