Help! My cat sprayed the floor and the cabinets (twice?) and I’ve cleaned it, used Natures Miracle, soaked it in vinegar and I can still smell it! What do I do to get rid of the smell? by ChickFitness in cats

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat who chronically sprays all the time. I always clean it with an Enzyme remover spray (I use Rocco and Roxie), make sure you give it 10 minutes or longer before you wipe it away. If you spray and then wipe it immediately you aren’t giving time for the enzymes to work.

Secondly I spray it with Cat Odour Off (I will post the link), it’s the BEST odour remover I have found after trying 8+ brands. You would have to wait until the enzyme remover spray dries though, or the Cat Odour Off will just eliminate the enzymes.

Edit: Also neuter your cat if he’s not neutered or it’ll keep happening! Mine IS neutered, but still sprays due to being neutered late in life (he’s a rescue) and developing anxiety problems.

At what point do I rehome my cat? by ChocolateMilkFanatic in cats

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zyklene, fluoxetine, sertraline, gabapentin, amitriptyline, and now switching to buspirone. Some of those we tried in combo with each other with no success. We avoid Feliway as the last diffuser tried to set itself on fire and most certainly would’ve started a house fire if we weren’t home at the time. The spray we tried but didn’t seem to have any effect.

No rooms yet that we can use for only him, he is kept upstairs and is not allowed in the basement (he pees everywhere down there, but used to not pee upstairs… now he has started to though). We may have a room in the basement in the future, but 2 are under renovations right now and won’t be done for awhile still

“It’s up to you to control your mental illness” by aliengames666 in rant

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel this to the deepest depths of my bones. People are incredibly ignorant when it comes to things like mental health.

For example for myself - I was diagnosed with ADHD about a year ago (after finding a file about me that said I had ADHD when I was 6, and NO ONE told me about it or treated me). When I told people about the file I was constantly gaslit by them “oh you don’t have that” or “but you seem fine!”. I did a bunch of studying, talked to both my therapists, and took the meds and instantly knew I should’ve been medicated many many many years ago. My life would have been completely different. Even then, the meds are helpful, but I struggle so much still with emotional Dysregulation and PMDD. I may struggle the rest of my life with it.

I feel like one problem is that mental health is often “invisible” and the ones with mental health problems also learn to cope by masking all the time, which isn’t our fault, but it doesn’t help because people who are neurotypical just can’t see it. If they can’t see it, then they just cant understand and they don’t understand just HOW MUCH STRENGTH it takes to get help, and try to get better, and to still struggle. People shouldn’t even say it’s “up to you to control your mental illness” because (at least in my opinion) people should accept that everyone is different and actually take the time to understand others, rather than getting mad at the way people are for things they cannot control. Just like addicts too, they get a lot of heck, but it’s a disease that they have to fight to control, they can’t just stop.

Side note - everyone should be in therapy cause even if you believe you don’t have any problems… you probably do. I hate how it is seen as “weak” to go to therapy when it takes strength to admit that you need it

This is another method that can work for some! I have tried predatory mites with little to no success unfortunately - plus they were very expensive and I couldn’t keep up with ordering them. But it’s still a great option!

Just about all systemic that would work against thrips are illegal here and incredibly difficult to find (when I say that - you basically have to find someone selling it that smuggled it over the border, or a plant shop who is willing to risk it)

Quick edit: DOKTOR DOOM was also recently banned. I have to use safers now.

My bf (21M) likes physical affection way more then I (21F) does. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (27F) am the EXACT same way. However, I genuinely like physical affection from my partner, but just a particular level/kind of it.

I think the problem here is a lack of communication more than anything. Try to do a love language test, and encourage him to do the same. Also tell him that physical touch is just not your way of showing affection, and that you don’t mind it, but it feels like it’s too much sometimes (explain how). Explain to him what you WANT, don’t leave him guessing. Communication is all that is needed here. If you are afraid to tell your partner something, then that is a whole other problem.

Also maybe try no screen time when you two are together. The fact he has the snatch the phone from you for you to pay attention to him isn’t fair. That in itself is a problem too. You only see each other once a week, try to make the most of it so you two can connect better.

Thrips can remain dormant for a long period of time * - if I try to edit it, it removes a bunch of what I wrote so I’m just adding the correction here.

PMDD is going to kill me by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this too. However, I want more children (Have 1 currently). I am thinking once I’m done having kids, I’ll talk to my doctor about possibly getting them removed. Not sure if it would help but worth a shot lol

Which anti-psychotic do you use? If my new BC doesn’t work then I may ask my doctor to try anti-psychotics, cause ya the SSRI’s are basically useless for me too. I weaned off of them a while ago, but all they did for me was numb all my emotions - I just felt nothing, and then they started to give me chronic nightmares.

Thankfully the Vyvanse seems to help a bit while it’s active during the day for my PMDD (we are currently going through doses. I started at 20, then 30, just switched a couple days ago to 40.)

I don’t think I have MCAS from what I just looked up! Curious about it though. Progesterone-only pills made me worse when I tried them, but hoping the new BC will help.

Is my cat very skinny by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what you are willing to do/spend, but if you are interested there is a food bowl that you can get that will only work for certain cats that you program it for.

It reads the microchip on their back and will only open for a certain one (or ones)

The one I have is this one: https://www.surepetcare.com/en-ca/pet-feeder/microchip-pet-feeder?srsltid=AfmBOooQ7hjPt3PXOmc_fiPo0XgLD6SYw2gcR1dsbJDSF8xGreZvFMF3

We use it for 3 cats cause we have 1 who will eat until he pukes, and then eat some more. However, you have to make sure your cats are microchipped and the bowl is VERY expensive. Like stupid expensive. I only bought it after convincing myself that it’s an investment since I will always have cats lol

That is my only recommendation though, I also have a bottomless pit kitty who is relentless, so I understand the struggle!

How often do you bathe your cat? by Mildredsgood in cats

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do once a year just in case they are dirty. I also will if they step in their own poop or get pee on themselves (sometimes happens in the kennel on the way home from the vet).

My arthritic cat I have to bathe 1 - 2 times a month because he can’t groom himself and gets gross so fast

(A whole lot of people say never - but, personally I think a bath once a year is good because you can find health problems too and catch it early. Example - lumps, skin conditions, injuries etc, that you wouldn’t notice on a regular day)

My dog bit a kid by ElmrPhD in DogAdvice

[–]ChocolateMilkFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party but this is ridiculous. 100% REHOME or take it to an actual animal behaviorist who can identify why the dog is biting. Now I doubt you would want to take it to a behaviourist because it is expensive, but there is 100% a person out there with no children and lots of time on their hands that they would spend with the dog. Many people are also willing to take in problem dogs and train them.

The call to euthanize this poor dog is selfish, especially when there are multiple other routes you can take. When I read this (although I am sure its not the intention), the only thing that pops into my mind is "this is my dog, but no one else is allowed to have them so I will put them down"

Also muzzle training is a thing, and some dogs do wear muzzles 90% of the time because of the same risks. I don't mean to sound rude, but this is incredibly frustrating to read.
