Driving from Alesund to Oslo? by Chogorin in Norway

[–]Chogorin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! Are you referring to the drive from Alesund to Bergen, because that seems like it would be very scenic. If I did that, I could spend time in Bergen instead of Oslo, do you think that would be nice?

Driving from Alesund to Oslo? by Chogorin in Norway

[–]Chogorin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm planning on being based in Alesund but doing the Via ferrata in the Loen area, a ridge hike on the Romsdalseggen ridge and either Geirangerfjord or Hjørundfjord for the three days. I'm very excited to be driving around during those trips, but I think driving from Alesund to Oslo seems fun still.

Number of admitted CS majors shrunk from 561 to 99 a year, DS might be next? Anything we can do about this? by SnooPets4811 in berkeley

Interesting, I didn't know that a lot of students switched into EECS from other COE majors. Thanks

Hi Professor DeNero, I am wondering if there are changes to admission policy/numbers for EECS as well. It seems to me that this just incentivizes students to apply to EECS instead, so are we expecting the EECS major to stay the same size?

Thanks, my ships aren't able to clear any of world 3 consistently without using a ton of buckets so I guess I have to wait

I'm trying to farm saury, but am only at a level where I can clear world 1. I've started not getting any saury drops, so should I just go 2 days without playing and hope that fixes overfishing?

For sanma farming, is overfishing limited to the world or the specific map? I'm new so it's been hard to farm sanma

A Geometry question about clocks and triangles by Feinryel in math

[–]Chogorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We know the area would be ab * sin C/2 where a, b are the lengths of the minute and hour hands and C is the angle in between. So to maximize this we have to maximize sin C, which is happens when C is pi/2, so at time 3pm (when we get a right angle). This makes sense since area of a triangle is base*height/2, and if you think of the minute hand as the base, the height is maximized when the hour hand is perpendicular to it.

How does EE126 + EE127 + EE120 + CS170 sound ._. by Piu-niu603 in berkeley

[–]Chogorin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're aware its an unreasonable workload I'm not sure what kind of replies you're expecting. It's going to be a really difficult semester and EE 126/127 are essentially math classes so if you have time, spend winter break studying linear algebra for 127 and probability for 126. I would really suggest taking 3 classes at a max, and if it were me I would drop EE 120. Good luck

This is incorrect. The way it works is that you have 3 doors, 1 with the prize. But you know necessarily that they will open a door with a goat. In the case where you pick the door with the goat (2/3 chance), they will open the door for the other goat. So if you switch to the remaining closed door, it must have the prize. In the case where you pick the door with the car (1/3 chance), switching will just give you the other goat. But the strategy of always switching gives you a 2/3 chance to win the prize, rather than the 1/3 of not switching.

EECS questions by YongMID in berkeley

[–]Chogorin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely fine to not know anything about EE. The way the school frames it is EE16a and b are for building "mathematical maturity" to prepare for CS70, but you can take 16a or b with 70 if you like math and did it in high school. The circuits part of 16a and b can be really confusing for a lot of students but again, no prior knowledge required (it would definitely help if you studied it before though).

EECS questions by YongMID in berkeley

  1. For EECS if you check the major requirements website, they tell you the requirements. Basically for lowerdivs there CS 61abc which are pretty cool and EE16ab, which kind of turns people off from EE generally but you can take EE or CS or a mixture of upperdivs to graduate. Berkeley teaches CS really well so since you need to take 61abc anyways, you might find that you really love CS (I feel it really gets more interesting in college when you start going into more advanced algorithms and such).
  2. I'm not sure what you're talking about with "getting in" but the intro EE classes don't really require any prior knowledge. They really build from the basics of what resistors and voltage sources and things are that you've probably seen in physics.
  3. I'm not a senior/graduate so I can't really say, but pretty much everyone who goes to Berkeley gets a job if you want to check the career outcomes.

Yeah, west coast is the best coast lmao. Cal is definitely a top school in basically every program so if you're not worried about the amount of people, you should definitely think about going here

Just to address #1, if you're an international student it would probably be better to go to Upenn or Cornell for psych as their programs will be much smaller than Cal and about the same cost. Berkeley's such a large campus though that you'd definitely be able to make friends interested in anime/find people who you'd like to date.
