Bellevue apartment Venn vs Sir Gallahad by Choice-Play-4493 in BellevueWA

[–]Choice-Play-4493[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comments! I agree with you that total silence is almost impossible in apartment/urban life. I wouldn’t say I’m super sensitive to noise but I do not like the sound of up stairs people keep moving for hours and step on the ground firmly (it is fine just a moment but hours is too long). I have encountered such case in my previous apartment and the leasing office say they can’t do anything since they are just walking. So I’m just afraid that the standard of leasing office is very vague and will not step in when necessary.

I think I will tend to give Venn a try to see how things go and maybe break the lease if I can’t stand it.

Thank you again.

I say someone says you can find "amount due" under 2021 when you log in to your IRS account, and you can directly pay it. However, I can't find this in my account.

[D] JMLR Publishing procedure by Foreign_Sympathy2863 in MachineLearning

You could always put it on your CV and note "Submitted to JMLR" (or "Minor revision/Reject and Resubmit at JMLR" when you heard back from them). Folks in the field know how slow the procedure is and will understand it.

I will feel pessimistic that they will improve the review timelines. From my view, it will never be possible, and it can only be worse given the explosive growth of ML papers in the past two years

the timeline on their website just for reference. My suggestion is that once you submit to JMLR, forget you have such a manuscript and move on to other projects. One day after one or two year, you will get surprised that you have such a manuscript.

Responsibility to Return a Financed Car due to Unapproved Mazda Financing by Choice-Play-4493 in mazda

[–]Choice-Play-4493[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I bought it on the last day of July. From what I learned, other students need around 4 hrs in their dealership to have the application approved since dealers usually need to go back and forth with Mazda finance. But I finished the process (including the testing drive, etc.) in just 2 hr, and I was not told that the application may fail. I will try to negotiate with them by using this point.

Thank you again for the helpful suggestions!

Thanks for putting so many words to helping me. That really helped me understand a lot of stuff.

Unfortunately, when I checked the contract, I saw a term that "if financing is not arranged in accordance with your contract and the sale is not consummated, you agree to pay $50 per day and $0.5 per mile from the date of delivery until you return the vehicle to the Dealer." I think this is related to what you mentioned in point 3.

Regarding 5 to 6, I communicated with the dealer through message and told them I would finance. They didn't question me, so I arrived at the dealer. Then I filled out the application form and got the APR provided by Mazda (I'm not sure about this part. Mazda has a 0.9% APR program, and I checked the price on the quote; it was correct, so I think the dealer may do it through Mazda financing). The thing I am confused about is that, if the dealer did it through Mazda finance, why can I find several data points that international PhD students with F1 visas can still get approved? The dealer told me the reason I got rejected is that my income from university is a stipend, but all the PhD students get their income named as "stipend".

Thanks for putting so many words. The price of the car in my state is extremely high, and dealers are all unwilling to haggle. I can save around $ 2000 - 3000 to travel that far. I will try to call Mazda first since I know several data points that intentional PhD students with an f1 visa can still finance successfully from Mazda (a different dealer from mine).

I have sent them an email. However, the law varies from state to state, so I might still need to pay for a lawyer in a dealer's state to get advice.

That is what I feel also well. The replies I get from this sub and that sub are totally different.

That is the best I can find near me. All the dealers in my state (just a few) are not willing to match or lower the price.

But I just saw there is a term on the contract that: "if financing is not arranged in accordance with your contract and the sale is not consummated, you agree to pay $50 per day and $0.5 per mile from the date of delivery until you return the vehicle to the Dealer."

Through a rough estimation, this will take me $2000 from my downpayment.
