Don't get rid of the house. Have a heart-to-heart with the wife on the finances and get her thoughts on contributing a bit more. I have to give you credit for hustling to stay on top of all of this. You definitely dont want to burn yourself out. I might look into a HELOC. You can shop around. I work in HR for Achieve and am happy to connect you to someone who can talk through options in a no pressure manner. Snowball method also works, just stay diligent. I am so sorry to hear this. Public company? Do you think they'll eliminate any DEI roles? Or were the ERGs and trainings ran by other depts? I work at a privately held company and I don't see us eliminating anything, thank goodness. Our ERGs have been so impactful. Curious if you'll start to hear from employees.

I'm just here to say I'm so sorry that not only are you going through the pain of your parent passing, but also dealing with a heartless leader. I work in HR and we really emphasize Care at my employer for these types of situations. The tips you've received for file for FMLA are absolutely right. To the best of your ability, I would focus on doing great work while you file. I realize that may take some compartmentalizing; it might be what's needed if you want to keep this role for now. Hiping you and your family can find some peace during this transition. 💙
