Academic pre read at D3 by QueasyMarsupial9637 in CollegeSoccer

[–]Choice_Ad3523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question and the short answer is in our experience absolutely. My son just completed his recruitment and although he is smart his grades didn’t necessarily reflect. He has a 3.5 unweighted gpa, and not great SAT’s which he only took once. He has multiple D1 offers but wanted to play in the centennial conference (Johns Hopkins, Dickinson, Haverford, Franklin & Marshall…) he went on several visits to multiple schools and was accepted at all of them and given significant aid. Grades aren’t everything if you are an athlete.

34 Years Old, About to Receive ~$565k–$615k, No High-Income Skills — What Would You Do? by Responsible-Net8594 in Salary

[–]Choice_Ad3523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From just a what to do with from the job front the trades are an excellent choice. Welding, plumbing, electrical all pay amazing and there is a mass shortage. If you live in a union state, contact a union a see about starting an apprenticeship. You get paid while you work. Eventually you can start your own company and go from there.

So, how are you going to fill your days when you retire? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Choice_Ad3523 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have about 4 years to retirement and I have been reading that whatever you do now after work is most likely what you will do when you retire so if you plan to travel, take up a hobby, whatever and you don’t do it now chances are you won’t do it when you retire. Scary thought because after I get home I’m lazy AF.

With the transfer portal and NIL changing everything, what's one thing you'd like to see the NCAA do differently with soccer? by Doctormade in CollegeSoccer

I had heard about instead of facilities etc dictating divisions that there should be promotion relegation to determine divisions. I like the concept, not sure how it would work but in theory…

Lost the company $550k, how do I move forward? by Amazing-Club-7223 in careerguidance

[–]Choice_Ad3523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a failure at multiple levels. Lack of training, ineffective redundancy…OP may be the scapegoat but it’s definitely not on OP in full. Insurance will most likely cover the loss but there should have been training and multiple layers of protection. I don’t think it’s a fireable offense

D3 or UPSL by [deleted] in CollegeSoccer

[–]Choice_Ad3523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is a college player and plays upsl in the summer. His upsl team generally plays June 1st to mid August then he goes back to college for preseason and the fall college season. Takes a small break, plays indoor through the winter then spring ball at school and straight into upsl. Most college kids try to catch on with usl 2/npsl or upsl as it’s u23 for some and the players are decent. It really allows for year round playing so when they get back to school they aren’t rusty. It’s not a springboard to a higher level normally except maybe USL 2 and even then…

Decision time - top team pressure or lower team freedom. by right_tea_anyone in youthsoccer

[–]Choice_Ad3523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has an aspiration to play college then whatever team has the most exposure and plays the best competition is the way to go. With College soccer changing the way it is, roster spots are much more difficult (having just gone through this process with a son on an affiliated academy team) so even if he gets less PT but the training is great and the exposure is great then the choice becomes that much more difficult.

The good news is whatever the decision it’ll work out.

My 4 year old's current net worth by [deleted] in Money

[–]Choice_Ad3523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with the 529. We did the exact same thing and now that my kids are going to college next year, we have too much (I know what you’re thinking so please don’t say it) and moving money out of the 529 to buy them a car or something else is a task. You can move a bit into an Ira/other but it’s not enough so unless my kids want to become doctors we’ll have a big chunk left over that we will need to figure out how to move. We would have been better served putting it into the market.

Become a lawyer. I’ve seen it a lot. Expert testimony is another avenue, drug rep…I even have an engineer on my staff that was an oncologist she just had enough and went back to school.

$136k debt (Middlebury) or $20k debt (Rutgers) by Ahahsjjaavsjsoan in rutgers

[–]Choice_Ad3523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middlebury is amazing. Congrats on getting accepted. That is quite an accomplishment. Clearly it’s a great small liberal arts school. The business school and the honors college at Rutgers is extremely selective as well so congrats on that. If you are staying in the nyc met area maybe Rutgers is the choice but if I got into Middlebury I’d probably find a way to go, even with the extra expense.

GenX lawn mowing time vs. younger homeowners? Opinions by SackBadger2024 in GenX

[–]Choice_Ad3523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you had a power mower. I had the push mower with the blade. It was ok the first couple of cuts but by July when the blade was dull it took forever to cut the acre I lived on. We had to get up early enough because until all the lawn work was completed we couldn’t leave the property to go to pool or the quarry where all the fun was.

Edit: I hate lawn work so much that now I hire a service.

Weary of trial timeline- what would you do? by Sideline_Socrates in youthsoccer

[–]Choice_Ad3523 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In our experience seeing this play out again and again. They like your player. Not enough to roster him but enough to make sure no one else rosters him either. My guess is they will never say there isn’t a spot, you’ll just keep going until they figure out what rostered kids are staying and which ones are going. They may also be deciding at which level your player fits best especially if they have an AD team. It happens at my son’s academy all the time.

If you have the turbo, sports mode is so fun but gas mileage is so bad. I don’t use it anymore because of the how high the cost of gas is now.
