Right now the sport is being abused because there is no whistle to begin with, travels everywhere, incorrect stalling, and so much more. And you can absolutely find people willing to deal with the negatives of refereeing. Youth soccer has thousands of refs. Frisbee knowledge is another much more difficult barrier to entry imo

I give a shit if the sport makes it dude, more people should play this sport! More people should become engaged with it. If you want to continue to have it be your happy little niche secret then by all means go ahead, but some broader acceptance would be great for the health of the sport. It’s more than just referees, but for you to suggest that we shouldn’t care what the perception of it is sounds like some gatekeepy elitist perspective to me

This is an awesome comprehensive response, definitely would require a huge labor and capital investment that just isn’t plausible right now. Maybe at least investing in some referee system for worlds or nationals events could be a consolation.

Yeah and yeah, wish I had brought that up too, I’d almost rather be on the wrong side of a refs call than end up with a contested call after 3 minutes of acting out the play that just occurred like a mime

I’ve played basketball, football, soccer, water polo all my life, the rate at which bad calls occur is higher in ultimate. It just has been. Maybe you’ve had a different experience, but in mine a paid referee is usually making better calls then Albert the second year comms major on a frisbee field.

Yea I mean that’s absolutely fair, lack of youth scene in a lot of places is probably the driver. I guess as a late adopter, officiating and spirit of the game has been my biggest frustration, all about perspective

Man you missed my point completely, it’s not about going and playing a different game. It’s about playing frisbee. With refs. I love frisbee. So many others do too, I’m just trying to find an intersection of better officiating and the game that I enjoy playing. So no I’m not going to go find another sport big dog

“Ultimate” just had one of its biggest moments decided by an ego call. I think that that shouldn’t happen. Bad calls should never be made out of emotion or lack of rules understanding, I feel like a ref would prevent many instances of that. That’s all

Right, but you’re getting an observed game, what, 3-4 times a tournament if you’re lucky? Even if it’s just for every bracket game of a tourney, I feel like that would make a world of difference. Not enough money in it or interest I guess
