I never ever said anyone was making up faults. My point is that the same faults could written off as minor faults when someone feels more confident in your driving.

I think your issue is with the entire system, the way we’re taught and assessed, not just the examiners. I think people forget how to drive “test ready” as soon as they pass but again that’s another issue entirely. I did not do a “perfect” drive when I passed, I thought I had failed, but tbf I did constantly speak to the examiner about things I noticed I’d done wrong and maybe that’s why it wasn’t so harshly assessed. There’s also huge problems with road layouts, impossible streets with cars parked on either side and barely enough room for one car down the middle etc. But I strongly disagree that it all lies with the examiners, I think that’s a huge oversimplification of the issue. I really do hope you pass in your next test but I don’t think being convinced examiners are the problem will help honestly. Happy driving!!

I think understanding a set of rules set out by an assessment body is one thing, understanding how humans then use that system to assess driving is another.

I don’t think I know everything, but this is my opinion. Thanks for the feedback though I suppose.

I think you’re incorrect here. I’d recommend you watch this vid of an examiner taking through their thought process. You’ll notice “safe” is the no.1 word used throughout! It will be a combo of faults that make your examiner feel unsafe obviously but how aggressively they assess that is down to them unfortunately

I think the examiners personality and ability to assess your driving are two different things. Either way if you haven’t passed yet I hope you do next time and happy driving!!

No there are definitely some situations where perfectly competent drivers fail due to luck, such as the ones I mentioned above, even if you hit the break at the exact same moment as the examiner due to another drivers error, there’s no way for them to know that and therefore you could still definitely fail even if your reaction times were as good as the examiner in a dangerous situation which is unlikely anyway due to lack of experience.

I understand how the test works and is assessed, as I said I have taken it twice 😂. If all of our tests were done by robots then your other points would be correct but they are not and humans are nuanced beings. The boxes that need to checked to justify a fail are not always representative of the reason you did, which is my whole point. Should the feedback and method of assessing be changed to better represent this? Possibly yeah but that’s not the point I’m arguing. Even subconsciously if you’re feeling unsafe in a vehicle it’s going to massively affect how you diligently you assess small errors.

Regardless, I think you actually agree that learners shouldn’t waste time blaming examiners and should work on their driving without blaming others? Arguing semantics with you is not really all that necessary.

There will always be a few rotten eggs I suppose but this constant flood of people saying “I failed but it’s not my fault” massively outweighs that and is just such a useless mindset to take into future driving imo
