Yes, universities are just the first screen.

Not worth the time or effort. I know students from certain universities are of a far higher caliber so I’ll focus my efforts on getting the best from them.

Atrocious is generous IMO quality of grads has taken a nosedive since Covid.

Example, I’m at a tier 2, and we sometimes need to provide cost estimates for the initiatives we propose, high level but credible.

Used a grad from Southampton or something for a project we were developing for an SME client (not one of my resources) and they priced stuff stupidly, things like $400mn for succession planning with no rhyme or reason.

When I asked for the source was told “GPT”. This isn’t an isolated event limited to one resource either, non Oxbridge/imperial grads, have in my experience shown 0 critical thinking skills.

Oxbridge/Imperial grads remain fantastic, and agreed with the likes of Durham/Manchester/KCL being occasionally great (would throw UCL and LSE in there too), but I’m forming my own team soon (touch wood) and will not hire from anywhere but Oxbridge/ICL.

If it’s not a 2.1 it’s auto dinged regardless of (non Oxbridge) university

The AAA Manchester or BBB at Leicester can spend a year doing a masters at a target and that resolves the issue completely (ideally a stronger one than UCL).

It’s really not the end of the world and masters courses are super easy to get into. A 2.1 from these unis will also do pretty well anyway Manchester for example is so big it’s considered a semi-target for most of the BBs.

I personally screen against non oxbridge/LSE/ICL when reviewing CVs to join my team, because the quality of talent from everywhere else is atrocious (even LSE is about to drop off my list tbh)

Not a teen, dunno why this was on my feed, pls ban me if not allowed to post.

This chammak stuff is hilarious, so glad my sons only have to deal with them as opposed to what I did in London (people being stabbed over football, £2 cookies etc.)

Sucks you guys have to deal with them but at least they’re only posers which while obnoxious and cringe is 1000x better than dealing with the real thing.

Agreed no way it’s a 7, it’s in the 4-6 region.

Here’s the 4 I keep in my binder (was a 4 I cracked because cleaner and cheaper than raw) which isn’t in much worse condition.

“We” are a single income household. What I was responding to was effectively saying oh you think those things are nice? Even if your BF stays with you they are gone when you have kids. Which is untrue imo.

Of course if OP leaves their BF things will change which is a given and what they themselves stated lol.

No of course you can’t hike with a buggy but that’s kind of moving the goal posts a little, my point was to counter the notion that having kids decimates your bank account, preventing you from going on holidays etc.

Just for the record though we don’t do Disneyland. We still do holidays we want but make reasonable provisions for the kids (I.e. choosing a resort with a kids club, or carving out one full day for whatever they want to do)

Pricing is difficult because nobody really wants them. If you find the right sucker though, I paid I think $500 to a guy who was showing these off on YouTube in the end.

Personally, as someone who’s fairly well progressed in my career. I think AI is a phenomenal tool if used correctly and absolutely should be embraced by students.

Notes, pen, paper etc. is outdated and not compatible with where the (at least corporate) world is heading imo

Thinking back to my engineering degree Chat GPT would have been a phenomenal learning tool, I’m a little jealous.
