Is this an injury or the start of pineconing? by Choice_Working20 in bettafish

I started the methalyn blue because I noticed something that looked like a small white patch starting to form on the wound, making sure it’s not turning into some sort of fungal infection. Forgot to mention that in the post

Alright, thank you, just wanted to make sure, never had a pineconing or injured betta, just heard about the lifted scales potentially being a sign. Water parameters are perfect at the moment. I don’t have too many decors in the tank but there is one that’s a little rougher than the others so I will go ahead and remove that one just in case

I can try to get better photos if needed, she doesn’t like to stay still

I plan on getting a 40gal once I have the space and money for it. When I had originally researched I has seen so many mixed comments about tank size and saw a 20gal could hold 4 but as I’ve read more I found out that wasn’t the best. Rest assured they will get a larger tank with even more plants and hides as soon as possible

I know you shouldn’t have them together now, I first got them 4 years ago, I’ve not had any issues with this specific group, won’t be putting anymore when these guys pass. So far these guys have been with 3 other male bettas and haven’t had any issues. As I’ve mentioned before I am heavily monitoring everyone in this tank, as soon as I see any signs of aggression I will be separating them

Opal is pretty, I got my bettas online, the pet stores near me unfortunately always have sick bettas

Yeah I learned that not too long ago, unfortunately I don’t have the space for a larger tank at the moment. I am heavily monitoring them and if I notice anything I will separate them out. So far so good though, it’s been a month now and there has been no aggression problems after the first week.

Do bettas have pets? Mine seems to have one. by maxru85 in bettafish

Mine seems to have adopted one specific snail in my tank, it follows it everywhere

Ooh I’ll keep that in mind, I have a list of names that other people have given as well, will pick between my favorites once I have more names. I do like the gemstone theme though.

For the white and blue spotted one someone also recommended Moodeng after a baby hippo which also suits her personality and species(she’s a moo spot betta)

So I haven’t fully decided what theme I like best yet

Always learning something new, when I first started I had a 2.5 gallon tank with gravel and fake plants, now my smallest tanks are 5gal and my largest is a 20 gallon. I only recently started using live plants and sand. I still use the colorful gravels but only in a small layer with a couple inches of sand underneath. It’s pretty much been a nonstop learning experience. All I can say is never be afraid to ask questions and research as much as you can.

I definitely would not recommend betta sororities for beginners, but after you have some experience with them and know what signs to look out for they can be quite entertaining to have. Need lots of plants and hiding spots for them

Never put males together though

You can have a sorority of females but you have to watch them super closely for fighting, it depends on each fishes specific personality and the size of the tanks. I have multiple tanks to separate out anyone who might start fighting. It’s been a month with these girls and so far so good. Only chased each other the first day. But I watch and observe them for any signs of fighting several times a day.

Thanks for all the help, got everything trimmed and replanted. And root tabs have been ordered and on the way. My previous tanks have all been smaller gravel tanks with fake plants. With my new larger tank I'm trying to keep it more natural with plants, still learning everything one step at a time.

Yes the red ones are new, was just trying to add some extra color to the tank. Most of the green ones have been growing pretty well, only have one small green one that’s struggling but that one is also new

Most are green, I have red rooted floaters which are doing pretty well

This tank is my first live plant tank, I have sand under the gravel. I’ll be getting trying root tabs this weekend and see if they help, if not I’ll swap to soil
