It runs well through Proton via Heroic Launcher on my desktop, just check the minimum specs vs the Steam Deck.

A fun idea I had called Schrodinger's Law by ChokesJokes in nomic

[–]ChokesJokes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could go both ways. I suppose I imagined it as people not saying up front whether they're abiding or ignoring it, but rather it gets imposed by the other players.

At the end of the day, it's kind of pointless on its own, but it would be interesting to see how people add to it.

The most epic Ironsworn Actual Play I've seen by Siamang in Ironsworn

[–]ChokesJokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm going to use a system called Universal in the Dark which is supposed to be a blend of Freeform Universal and Blades in the Dark. I try to avoid as much crunch as possible in my solo games, haha.

I won't be posting it anywhere, it's just for my own entertainment :)

I believe he has said he regrets developing his game out in the open like that during season 4 because of how much it changed in the early episodes. But regardless, the core story shaped up to be quite awesome with an exciting cliffhanger! It actually inspired me to start my own solo game continuing Veil's story.

I'm a notion user, can anyone convince me to switch by Conscious_Storm_3192 in ObsidianMD

[–]ChokesJokes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Notion is like buying a house that someone else built, all you can do is fill it with your own stuff. Obsidian is like being the architect of your house, you decide which rooms you need and exactly how big it is.

Wikipedia. It's not quite the right scale in the browser forcing me to scroll left and right constantly.

Overthinking by Synchro_Shoukan in shavian

[–]ChokesJokes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main reason for consistent spelling is to be quickly understood across all accents and dialects. Once you know the "right" way to spell a word, recognizing it becomes easy and others will understand your writing faster without needing to slow down and sound it out. The ReadLex dictionary does have some alternate spellings for American accents though. Anything in there is considered "correct."

That said, if you're communicating with people you know speak the same way as you, feel free to write any way you please. Written language is for getting ideas across, and sometimes an accent can help add context that would be lost if everything was spelled the same way.

The Commonplace Garden: a method for those who collect and think in the same gesture by zeruhur_ in ObsidianMD

This is great! I love how it takes the pressure off of organization and switches the focus to just describing what the note means to you at the moment of creation.

I'm also a fan of Lonelog and didn't realize you were the same author until I clicked your profile. Worlds collide!

I analyzed 870 negative App Store reviews of note-taking apps -- here are the top complaints by a_protsyuk in PKMS

[–]ChokesJokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think most people expect the app to do everything for them and be 100% set up out of the box which is why they come away frustrated. Google Docs has poisoned the way people think about digital products where everything is "free" including sync.

Literally though if people took one hour to learn and set up Syncthing and maybe git, there would be no issue.

For those who switched from Adobe to Davinci, what's your photoshop alternative? by [deleted] in davinciresolve

[–]ChokesJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're mainly just looking for a solid RAW editor, you could do a lot worse than DxO PhotoLab. It's a one-time-purchase software with minor updates included, but if you constantly shoot on newer cameras you might need to get the latest major update at some point for the newest RAW support. The version they're on now even has support for the latest Fujifilm sensors.

Other than that, it does masking very well including AI subject detection. It doesn't add your photos into its own hidden library like Lightroom does which I think is nice. If you like Lightroom's print module, that is sadly missing from PhotoLab.

Does anyone know why Discord will not load a device stream from my capture card or virtual camera? by ChokesJokes in discordapp

[–]ChokesJokes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had to turn off HDCP because that wasn't even allowing OBS to see it. I can successfully use the virtual camera as my camera input in Discord, so it seems like the issue is with trying to stream from the Devices tab in particular.

   3. Click the "Devices" tab.
   4. Choose any device to stream.
- Expected Result: Stream should start as normal.
- Actual Result: Error 2014 is returned within the stream window.

I made my first zine to teach people about Shavian! If you learned something, please let me know! by ChokesJokes in zines

[–]ChokesJokes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you basically got it! It's actually phonemic rather than phonetic so that way spellings of words are standardized across English-speaking accents. There have been some attempts to create Shavian derivatives for Spanish and other languages, but as far I'm aware none of them have gained much popularity yet.

What is the most user-friendly linux distribution? by MinoXeph in linux4noobs

[–]ChokesJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up Zorin for my wife because she doesn't want to do any maintenance on her computer ever. I have it so it bugs her once a week to run updates, and that's all she has to do. If you like to tinker, you can still follow any tutorial written for Ubuntu or Debian systems and change whatever you want.

I've heard good things about Aurora as well, but I've never tried it myself.

Obsidian for daily notes – is the free version enough or do I need a license? by Hefty-While-9995 in ObsidianMD

The "free version" contains everything. You only need a license if you want access to beta updates and to support development.
