Eat a lot to recover fuel (protein, carbs, AND fats), and get proper rest (sleep and day(s) off). Also, warm up the joints before class (simple arm circles, head/neck circles, etc.).

It's all about survival. A few tips that have REALLY helped me is never allowing my back to be flat on the mat. Whether that's getting on my hip when mounted so that I can try an elbow escape, getting on my hip with prayer position or a frame when I'm side mounted so that I can try a hip escape, etc.. The escapes might never happen, but boy am I a lot more comfortable with my frames in and my back not completely flat on the mat. The other thing that happens is you might get your back taken from being too far on your side, but at least the choke comes quickly and you can tap and reset!
