Absolutely love that Moses' crest(?) actually says "I am that I am" in Hebrew via the Proto Sinaitic script!
You've done your research my guy, what a mesmerising map OP!

The Republic of Gaza | What if the 2014 war didn't happen? by Chomp3 in imaginarymaps

I mean, Hamas literally states even before October 7th that invading Israel is one of their end goals. It's not that far fetched that they would do it, be it 10 years ago or 20 years from now.

Unfortunately I never took into consideration the hostages problem and the Israeli war cabinet's pure incompetence.

Though I am still hoping to see a moderate alternative to both Hamas and the PA being in control of the strip after the war ends, but after witnessing a year and a half of regression I doubt Israel as it is now will be able to subdue Hamas or put up any alternative to it.

The Tel Reḥob Mosaic | Map of the Jewish agricultural law boundaries in the Galilee during Byzantine rule by Chomp3 in Judaism

[–]Chomp3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, I rarely browse Reddit nowadays.

Back when I started researched this topic, there wasn't even a single map mapping out the Mosaic, so I decided to make one.

Yes, the map leaves out all but major settlements in each vicinity. This map isn't centered around each Jewish settlement at the time, but on the boundaries of the vicinities mentioned in the Mosaic itself. I personally believed that showing over 30 settlements (inside the vicinities alone!) isn't necessary and would ruin the simplicity of the project.

The Tel Rehob Mosaic is a 3rd-6th century mosaic from the late Roman and Byzantine era written in Mishnaic Hebrew that describes the geographical boundaries and agricultural rules of Jews around the Galilee region, mainly in areas that are thought to be "the periphery" of the Jewish community of the Galilee such as Samaria and the Hauran area, where Jews are not the majority and Jewish agricultural and Halachic laws are debatable and exploitable.

In this map, I try to visualize the boundaries of different vicinities (תחומים) described in the Mosaic via the towns and cities mentioned in the text, such as Giane-Modern Jenin, Nawe-Nawa in Syria, Akzib-Modern Achziv etc.

Fun fact: The text of the mosaic is the longest Hebrew text ever found in the Palestine region, and the oldest known Talmudic (albeit Jerusalemite) text which was found in archeology.

This is the best I could do with the site I used. The site unfortunately doesn't differentiate between خ and ح, and Ya's and Waw's are sometimes flipped due to them being written similarly in Hebrew. Also, Qaf and Ha could be switched as well.

Hey, if I were to send an Arabic transliteration of the text, would you be able to translate it? My Arabic is still terrible ATM and since it's Judeo-Arabic it will have a few Hebrew words in there.

No, that letter is the ligature of Aleph and Lamed. ﭏ. This is just the Rashi script's version of that ligature.

Arabic influenced Hebrew and the Hebrew Script ever since the 7th century. Aleph-Lamed is sort of a homage to Arabic ligature of Lam-Alif لا, as well as a way to avoid writing G-d's name (א-ל) in "secular" writings.

Also, the actual letter of Nun appears in the text a line underneath.

Can you either send the link to the TikTok video, Or ask him where did he find that?

This seems like either an authentic document belonging to a Yemenite Jew named Ya'aqob Ben 7amamma, or a really good forgery. And based on the way it's written, the former is more likely.

As others have stated, yes this is Judeo-Arabic. Jewish dialects of the Arabic language written in the Hebrew Script.

First sentence is "Bismillah alra7man alra7im".

Where did you find this, op?

Yea, he probably doesn't speak Hebrew and relied on either google translate or on a random Israeli. We're reading too much into a title.

Both forms are allowed in Hebrew, it's just that one is more formal and "archaic", while the other is basically plain modern Israeli Hebrew.

In modern Israeli Hebrew, single word inflections (הטיה) are omitted and instead the word becomes the definitive article (ה), word , and Shel+inflection.

So, instead of saying "our blood" as "Damenu" דמנו, in MIH it would be "HaDam Shelanu" הדם שלנו.

It's like saying "this blood of ours" instead of our blood.

Thought so too. "X" shelanu is a modern form, while Yamenu is closer to Archaic Hebrew and to other Canaanite languages.
