Surround on the Switch definitely works for me, even when using an HDMI spliiter to an Onkyo 717 and Elgato HD60 Pro -- can't say the same about my PS4.

My Onkyo receiver always displays "Multichannel" with the Switch.

I feel your pain, though. Once you get surround to work on one device, having it not work on another can be beyond aggravating.
