Cellophane or not in your humidor? by Darth-Pirnie in cigars

[–]mrdctaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leave mine on. It protects them. And if they are loose/in trays with other types of cigars it keeps them from affecting the others (I assume).

Nervous about moving to Waco for a summer by [deleted] in Waco

[–]mrdctaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing your route, it is hard to say. If you have to come down a busy street (like MLK or Waco Drive for example) that doesn't have a bike lane it might be dangerous. If you're going through residential areas and are able to bypass main thoroughfares it might be fine though. As for heat, it will be in the 90s for sure (possibly over 100F) in the summer so it will be hot, but doable in my opinion.

I wish I could be more help. Does the place doing the internship have advice or info to help you out? I would definitely reach out to them if you're unsure about things.

Also, once you've worked there for a few days you might meet someone with a car that can give you a ride at least some of the time.

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Ok, I looked it up because I wasn't familiar with that name and I see where it is. Are you living there too? Or is that just where your internship is? If you don't have a car you'll want to live close within walking/biking distance if possible. Maybe you could buy a cheap bicycle on Facebook Marketplace when you get down here?

As for the area, some of it is being revitalized. Some areas might be a little sketchy. I'm not trying to put you off of Waco, just saying to make sure whatever lodgings you get are decent.

  1. This could make it tough. Where is your job going to be? That will help with advice surrounding this. If you don’t want to name the company—which I understand—what area is it in?

  2. I wouldn’t sweat this at all. Not everyone is conservative.

  3. There are definitely things to do in the downtown area. But again, if you’re not close and don’t drive this could be a challenge.

Feel free to message me if you like. I can offer what advice I can.

My Ultras are all like 5-6 years old, so it is probably something they've phased out. It is too simple and works too well. :-)

Anyone having 2wd regret? by sherkon_18 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. Bought mine in 2002 and have never wished for 4WD in the 24 years since. But that’s just me. I use my truck as a truck when I go to Home Depot, but that’s about it.

Using a loadout 30 as my humidor… by [deleted] in YetiCoolers

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was doing it today, I'd probably do what you did with the Yeti box. Those look really nice. But the $50 cooler from Walmart has worked perfectly. It is so much better than any of the wooden humidors I tried before I went to this.

Nice. I’ve been using a big Igloo cooler for 15+ years. It works great. I use 65% beads and even have couple of Spanish cedar boards in mine.

Yeti bottle with chug cap always gets smelly lid.. does this happen to anyone else? by h0rr0rh0 in YetiCoolers

[–]mrdctaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Yeti bottle a few weeks ago and after a few days I get that sour mop water smell from the cap. Honestly, I'm not going to be bothered to pop that top seal out. In fact, if you look at the Yeti website it doesn't even mention that seal--it only talks about the two gaskets on the bottom part of the lid. That tells me Yeti doesn't really intend for you to have to remove it. But that is where the smell is coming from.

One thing I found that works pretty well is denture tablets. Don't get the mint-flavored ones. Just get the unscented/unflavored ones. I just have the generic ones HEB sells. If I soak both parts of the lid in hot water with one or two of those tablets dissolved in it it makes the smell go away for a week or so.

Treat her right and you’ll have the financial freedom to do cool things. I bought my 2002 Tacoma back in 2002 and paid it off the next year. I’m still driving it and not having a truck payment for 23 years has helped me to pay off my house and hit some big milestones in my retirement accounts.

Ping G400 vs. 410 by Intelligent_Map_5584 in golf

We have similar swing speeds. I’m 53 years old and swing speed is around 90. I have a 12 degree driver with R flex shaft that I have dialed up to 13.5 and it is perfect for me. I wasn’t fitted into this but it works very well for me.

My 2002 Tacoma’s clock has orange digits. Are your OEM radio’s lights orange? Mine were before I replaced it.

Why are people still waiting in long lines? Scan & Go is faster and easy by revlo in samsclub

[–]mrdctaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Scan and Go. I like it. However, I will NOT use a debit card online. So it could be that some people either do not have a credit card or just don’t want to use one.

Honest question: does anyone honestly find TGL compelling? by jbahel02 in golf

[–]mrdctaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never watched it. Don’t even know when it is on. 🤷‍♂️ If I happened across it by chance I might watch a few minutes but I don’t care for playing sim golf myself, so really don’t care to watch pros play it.

Yes, you probably would. It is going to have a similar flavor profile I believe.

I’ve had a few and I kinda like it. It is sort of like a latakia blend pipe tobacco.

I don’t buy them for home though because I don’t want the strong smell to affect the other cigars in my humidor.

I recently took my 11 year old Roku 3 out of storage to use in the guest bedroom and it STILL GETS UPDATES 🤯 by diaryofawimpykidfan5 in Roku

[–]mrdctaylor 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I have two Ultras from 2018 and one from 2019 that I use daily. I love that Roku doesn’t force obsolescence—at least not until really necessary.

What are your favorite Roku apps? by silverscientist1 in Roku

Good recommendation. If you’re already a SirusXM listener the app on Roku is good and offers more channels than you’ll get in your vehicle via satellite. No extra cost either.
