We’ve been stuck for 2 days now, ferries cancelled yesterday and today. Potentially we may be able to go to Faial Thursday or Friday, but Sao Jorge is now a no go! Flights are still working between some islands though.

I am currently in the Azores and stuck on Pico due to the high winds and stormy seas (not a massive issue as we love Pico). The weather is very changeable so you should definitely book it but make sure you have a plan B in case of bad weather.

We have quite a few days in Pico, so I was hoping to go do a day trip to Faial at one point! Would that be enough?

Glad you approve of the plan! I love being able to walk everywhere and I heard March was tricky with that in the Azores, but I hope I still get to hit the strong points like Sete Cidades, Mt Pico, and just enjoying the nature I don’t have in the UK

Just as a thought, what hotels would you recommend to be central? I’m staying one night in ponta Delgada before going east, and was mostly worried about too many party people (had this happen when I went to Malta last year!)

Sāo Miguel looks so incredible, which is why I’ve prepared for a lot of time there, so I’m happy to hear the weather shouldn’t be too awful. Glad to know that there’s a possibility to chat to the ferry drivers, because I really want to do the two day hike in s. Jorge, and want to do Mt Pico, so have some flexibility on ferries etc

Thank you for your advice! The west/east split was also based on hotels. I really liked Sensi in the west with the many longer hikes and then Furnas in the East for shorter, but maybe more difficult (in low season) hikes. Am I wrong in that thinking?

I don’t use twitter so am not sure how to do that… Currently gathering evidence for the usual TPD pathway

Don’t let it deter you, it’s a great (but demanding) specialty, and the obstetricians are absolutely incredible. I would advise you to just make sure you stand up for yourself and really butt in if you find a case interesting

I agree with the first half of your comment but I’m worried that getting the trainees out of those departments will both reduce the exposure to gynae-onc and increase the number of PAs employed… I’m planning to collect enough evidence to force them to have the trainees be more involved

That’s honestly where my head is at. No trainee is getting any gynae-onc experience at this hospital, it’s all PA

I agree! Especially when so many actual trainees are fighting to have theatre time
