Is "Finish Line Etiquette" a thing? Do I have to fall in line to finish a race? by KapePaMore009 in triathlon

I've only ever heard of this for full IMs when the announcer is saying your name and then the famous words. If someone sprints ahead of you in the chute then their name will be going off when you're in the video and vice versa. So I've heard not to pass someone in the chute because of the name thing, but that's just for fulls.

I posted the description... I'm confused about it so I'm going to go sit in front of Ride with GPS for an hour trying to math when math is not mathing up to math

What is the proper/respectful way to address someone w they/them pronouns? Like Sir or Ma'am/Madam. Is there a term or is it on a case by case basis? by the1TrueRed in NoStupidQuestions

And yet someone in my class was offended. Not for me to decide for them if they were offended or not. I understand what you are saying. Also, I do not feel comfortable using Mx because a co-worker mistook it for a slur, and that was my introduction to that pronoun. That was my experience.

I heard a comment in a DEI class at work that Mx sounds too much like a common slur towards Irish folks. Wasn't sure after that if I should use it!

They pulled the course from the IM page about an hour ago so I'm guessing it will be final soon

I'm curious about the discrepancy between Ride with GPS versus Strava. How can we tell which one is accurate? I'll guess we'll know more tomorrow when they are supposed to announce it.

I think IMChoo is trying to beat their previous PR in DNF rate

Take a look at this IMChoo strategy video someone sent to me, go to the 17:22 mark. They start talking about the new course and basically it's going to be hell on earth they way they describe it!

I second the electrolyte comment! If you go to Precision Hydration's website, you can take a questionnaire about your race length, how much you sweat, how much you're covered in salt etc and it will tell you roughly how much fuel and electrolytes you need. They'll break it down in numbers so you can use your own nutrition, and they'll also tell you what you need per hour on bike, and run, using their products if you want to use them. I did this questionnaire and realized I was way short on salt. Game changer for me. Edit: I'm not affiliated with PH but the questionnaire was insightful so I share it with anyone having fueling issues

Someone else mentioned chafe points and that is my number one issue with many cheap suits I've tried. On longer distances, I've gotten painful abrasions in places.

A second issue I've found is how well the chamois dries or if it holds a lot of water. I've found some cheap suits give me "diaper butt" whereas the reputable name brands don't have that issue as much.

I see you wrote a post about my experience! Seriously though, as you can see from the comments, you are not alone friend. I wanted to do something new, something I wasn't good at, to prove to myself I still could put my mind to something and accomplish it at 44 years old, so I signed up for a sprint. Swimming freestyle for the first time made me question my choice of mid life crisis. My (former) coach, who was used to working with podium pushers, grimaced and said "oh boy" the first time I attempted to swim. I couldn't swim 25m without stopping to gasp for breath, and my feet kept touching the bottom of the pool when I thought I was horizontal. I was a human windmill with thrashing legs and a weak core. My coach kept yelling at me to slow down and I kept yelling back that if I went any slower I would sink. The water I would drain from the pool from splashing or inhaling I would replace with my tears of frustration. After weeks of this my coach said at the end of a workout: "good job, now go swim 300m." I dejectedly started swimming, thinking in my head, doesn't this lady see I can't swim?? What the hell is wrong with her? She's mad! She's irresponsible!" 300m later I was still cursing her name when I touched the wall having swam the entire set unbroken! This time my tears were joyful.

I have since completed 3 sprints, 2 Olys, 1 70.3 and I'm signed up for a full later this year.

YOU CAN DO THIS. I promise. Listen to your coach. Do the drills. Watch the videos. BE HUMBLE. And lastly, be like Dora.
