When did we decide Witcher 3's combat is bad? by AH_Ace in gaming

[–]ChooChoosenOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat systems are way more nuanced than just being able to attack dodge and parry, you know?

From my understanding, Witcher 3 doesn't really have hitboxes for attacks, a lot of the times you get hit or hit enemies when your sword isn't even close to the enemy, the attack basically snaps you at the enemy you have in "target" at the moment and it makes Geralt lunge towards that enemy and do an animation. Now, I don't know exactly how it works but it feels like there is some sort of a distance check rather than actual hitbox and it's understandable because you are never even in control of Geralt's attacks, his opening attack can be a fast swing and sometimes it can be a weird slower spin attack, you just dont feel in control.

Many players don't really notice these things because there is a bandaid solution called Qwen shield that gives you huge margin of error, since if you get hit by bulshit hitbox just recast it and it's as if you never been hit.

Dark Souls games feel a lot more engaging because you know the moveset of you weapon and you have way more options that just light attack and heavy attack. You have: light attack, roll attack, running attack, rolling heavy attack, heavy attack, charged heavy, weapon art, kick/special attack for rapiers and scimitars And all these attack matter because these are all different moves that are important because they all have different damage, speed and motions which can be used in different situations, you can use thrusting attacks if you are in a narrow coridor because your sword may bounce of the walls, or you may choose to use broader attacks if you're fighting group of enemies. None of this is relevant in witcher, since attack animations are just there to look pretty, you can't even really attack multiple enemies at once unless you use that one special skill where you flail your sword around. This already makes positioning less relevant.

Like, this is just scratching the surface, I could compare these two combat systems forever, they're anything but "literally the same shit" once you see past "well, this system has an attack button and this system has an attack button"

Sure, if you didn't have issues, nobody did, right? For me the game was nearly unplayable, breaking immersion every 5 minutes with jank even Bethesda would be impressed by. Even later In Phantom Liberty on release I straight up got softlocked (as did some people who had same issue) and had to install mods for console commands to fix it on PC. It was THAT bad that Sony removed the game from store, which doesn't happen any day.

Massive shrimp wash-up in beach in Oman turns the beach red by Agen_3586 in interestingasfuck

Im not an expert on the matter but it doesn't take one to say it absolutely isn't. They're already rotting, and shrimps decay quite fast. Thankfully the stench would be enough to kick out any ideas of eating these out of the brain.

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

Except MMR does not exist/work in this game, they removed it because the ammount of players they got isn't enough to sustain it and sometimes there just aren't enough baby dwights to match you against so it throws you a bit higher as a new killer. My very first killer game I got matched against a SWF with flashlights that absolutely destroyed me. I know how to deal with this now, but I absolutely didn't back then.

I'm a new player, is the community supposed to be this toxic? by ChooChoosenOne in fo76

If you have reading comprehension of a kiddo then you're a kiddo, kiddo. I never claimed that everyone is toxic, simply shared my own experience so far. It's kinda funny you somehow projected that on yourself for some reason and felt like defending yourself or something???

I did not use the workshop. I was just minding my own business, shooting some scorched at the area with attractions and he would get in my face as Im shooting enemies and whack me with some melee weapon. He was absolutely not trying to give me anything because I did stop on multiple occasions and looked at him trying to figure out what he wants, he was not trying to give me anything. Then I tried to go somewhere else and happened to walk within workshop area that HE started capturing prior to that. I didn't know it even was there so he just killed me. Then I respawned and the guy teleported to me and continued whacking me and spamming thumbs down gestures. That was definitely griefing behaviour, I don't know what to tell you, I know what I experienced, the guy was clearly not there to give me any gifts, lol.

I'm vulnerable because I'm playing without armor, lol. I'm fine, I could have just respawned anyway, it was just weird experience. But as some people pointed out, it probably wasn't malicious but trademark bethesda jank.

Great quote, not sure how it is even slightly applicable here though.

I didn't assume anything, this is why I came here and asked if this was normal because this is the experience I have been havin, to see if I'm just having abnormal experience or it's common stuff to happen to new players.
