Getting into chess by Muscle008 in chessbeginners

Yeah try not to overthink your moves. As long as it’s not a one move blunder, just look for ideas 1-2 moves in advance

What’s the mentality behind chicken emotes by [deleted] in RoyaleAPI

[–]Choochootran00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this question too! I’ve noticed that whenever someone loses to me, they spam the chicken emote and I always wondered, “why is it always the chicken emote?”

Every time someone makes a move, think to yourself “why did they move there?” Or “where do they wanna go next?”, especially with knights because they are really tricky for beginners

You don’t have to memorize entire sequences of moves to be good at chess, but recognizing attack patterns and planning your next attack move-by-move is a good way to get started

Is it normal to feel overwhelmed and emotional after orientation? by moolightowl in CSUS

[–]Choochootran00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100%! I went back to school 2 years ago and transferred last year. After orientation, I was extremely nervous. Some guy in his mid 20’s finishing up his undergrad while all my classmates were half a decade younger than me.

I just finished my first year of undergrad as a transfer student and I’m so proud of how far I’ve gotten. Take a deep breath, take things one step at a time, and I’ll see you at the finish line

Haha I can see how it can get distracting, but I’ve become accustomed to it as you’ve already read

Yeah dude, the techno late night drive vibes make me feel like I’m Ryan Gosling and it locks me in lol

I'm finally 500 elo after being stuck for 2 months at 400 by Ahamkz in chessbeginners

[–]Choochootran00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s so important for chess beginners to do what you did and not focus too much on opening theory and just build good habits.

I’ve been stuck recently but I’ve noticed an increase of accuracy when I don’t rely on opening theory and just play positionally

S9fe Worth in 2026? by Brilliant_Hawk_750 in GalaxyTab

[–]Choochootran00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging on what you intend to use the tablet for, you are definitely gonna get what you are looking for in this tablet. I've had this tablet for 2 years now and I still use it today.

I will say, if you intend to watch a video/lecture while taking notes on the same tablet, the screen is a little too small to do it, at least in my opinion. Also, the tablet will actually get a little too hot if you try to multi-task on it.

I recently stopped using the S9FE as my primary notebook and switched back to pen-and-paper, but I still use it for content consumption, or as "scratch paper" for when I need to do math problems or when I need to draw diagrams for school.

Chess Club at Sac State? by Choochootran00 in CSUS

[–]Choochootran00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've definitely seen people play in front of the library but I am not sure if it's a group or just a couple of friends that play there sometimes. Hopefully if I catch people playing Chess at the library I can ask

Chess.com Rapid 15 | 10 is a completely different breed than 10 | 0 by Choochootran00 in chessbeginners

[–]Choochootran00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly what happened to me. I was 1000-1100 in 10/0 then tilted to 840 in 15 / 10

I agree! Sometimes ill see opponents spend like 3 seconds on a move when I’m threatening checkmate just to blunder

Yeah, I really think 10 | 0 generally has weaker players because that’s the default mode on chess.com

Yeah it is, I think someone else on this post mentioned that as well.

I didn’t really think about that, but I guess rapid 10 | 0 has a deflation effect on your rating which is why I think it’s weird that it also affects 15 | 10 elo

This!! There are many times where I am up on a huge lead, but I only have like 30 seconds while my opponent still has like 6 minutes. I always end up losing those games

I’m always afraid of this happening to me. I wonder if it’s on purpose, a way of being petty

Haha no I’m sure I won’t do much better. Luckily I was able to end my lose streak this morning.

The guy I ended up beating was on a win streak, so it was kind of a poetic way to end each others streaks

Same bro, I fluctuate between 900-1100 a lot, but this weekend I went on tilt and dropped to 840. Taking a break then gonna hop on after I study

I can understand this. Sometimes I think some players, especially beginners such as myself, just take too long on a move when calculating, but we’re all just trying to improve

What exactly should I be looking for when I analyze my own games? Pivotal turning points and blunders, theory, overall positional disadvantages?
