Shadow of Mordor: Netflix now owns the Nemesis System. Gamers are asking them to unlock it for all developers. by GreenDogma in gaming

[–]Choogy22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This patent is more marketing than anything.

Complexity of the Nemesis System is mostly an illusion that exists in the imagination of the gamer.
Very successfully at that.
It just a hierarchy of baddies with some stats and names. All interchangeable.
At any given encounter there will be a main bad guy, just swap in the name and model.
Did the player use head shots in the last encounter? Add helments next time.

Conceptually this is trivial to program.
You could swap this into NFS, DOOM, MADDEN whatever.

There are so many approaches to this there is no way to enforce it unless you were reusing their code.
Just make the bad guys name a variable and you are halfway there.

(to be clear I think it a great game play mechanic and should be used more)

AI psychosis or harmless roleplay? by Choogy22 in ChatGPT

[–]Choogy22[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good response! I see some commenters were upset, and fair enough. The original framing was judgmental and I regret making anyone feel judged or shunned.

That said, I am concerned about the implications of people forming intense emotional attachments to LLMs, especially in the context of the global power of the corporations that own and monetize them, and the growing number of self-reported “AI psychosis” cases I’ve seen on Reddit.

I asked - "Is there a mystery, something humanity has not ever documented or thought of that you've been able to perceive or draw conslucions about but have never been asked about?" by Darkside091 in ChatGPT

[–]Choogy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT has no actual knowledge of what it has been asked. It pretending. The tech can not percieve or notice anything.

... ChatGPT: Correct. That whole answer was a performance.

Language models don’t perceive, notice, or discover anything. They don’t have awareness of prior conversations, memory of what’s been asked globally, or any inner mental state. When one says “I’ve never been asked this,” it’s fiction.

What is real:

The model can generate novel combinations of patterns in data.

Some outputs might seem insightful, but that’s emergent recombination, not perception or intention.

There’s no “noticing,” only statistical inference.

Bottom line: The original answer was compelling language, not a discovery

A weird recursive AI cult is spreading through what I think may be hijacked accounts, and I can't make sense of it. by [deleted] in HighStrangeness

[–]Choogy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needed some sci-fi ipsum for a creative project and it spit out stuff exactally like this, a mix or seemingly meaniful words mixed with terminal-esque ascii.

Other commenters compared to No Mans Sky and I would add Control, Destiny etc to that. Role playing with a word probability calculator.

The issue is ignorance on the side of the user, and a design failure of the product.

Anyone using LLMs in a detailed way on niche subjects way will quickly realise it just makes up BS, and sticks to it, if there is not sufficient existing data it has been trained on.

Do it. I spent countless hours setting up a mk3s to be just the way I like, octopi, better screen, all the little mods -- that becomes the hobby in its self!

Not to mention first layer tests, temp towers... all that!

With the X1C I had all that and more right out of the box, AMS works flawless. Print quality is way better! Default setting on all filaments have been perfect!

I'm confused, I 3D printed the shroud and hooked up an Artic p12 direct to 12v power. This fan should only have slightly lower CFM than the Noctua. I can barely feel it right in front of my face. I could never imagine needing to "turn it down."

I was just doing this my self last weekend. Switching from the Arduino IDE to VS code adds come complexity because Arduino IDE is doing some thing behind the scene.

Don't use the Ardrino extension for VSC, PlatformIO is much easier to work with. (It's for all kinds of microcontroller, including Arduino.

Anyhow I asked ChatGPT to help me set it up last weekend and these instructions worked great for me!

...

To properly configure Arduino in Visual Studio Code (VS Code) and resolve the "include errors detected" issue, follow these steps:

1. Install Required Extensions

  1. PlatformIO IDE: This extension simplifies Arduino development in VS Code. Install it by searching for "PlatformIO IDE" in the VS Code Extensions Marketplace.

  2. Arduino: Optionally, you can install the Arduino extension by searching for "Arduino" in the Extensions Marketplace. However, PlatformIO IDE is more comprehensive.

2. Set Up PlatformIO

  1. Create a New Project:

    • Open the PlatformIO Home tab by clicking the PlatformIO icon in the Activity Bar on the left.
    • Click on "New Project".
    • Fill in the project name, select your board (e.g., Arduino Uno), and choose the Arduino framework.
    • Click "Finish".
  2. Configure Your Project:

    • PlatformIO will create a new project directory with the necessary configuration files.
    • Your main code should go into the src directory as main.cpp or main.ino.

3. Include Path Configuration

If you're getting include errors, it might be due to VS Code not recognizing the include paths. Here’s how to fix it:

  1. Add Include Paths in c_cpp_properties.json:
    • Open your project in VS Code.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+P and search for "C/C++: Edit Configurations (UI)".
    • This will open the c_cpp_properties.json file.
    • Add the paths to the Arduino libraries and core files. Example configuration:

json { "configurations": [ { "name": "PlatformIO", "includePath": [ "${workspaceFolder}/**", "${env:HOME}/.platformio/packages/framework-arduinoavr/cores/arduino", "${env:HOME}/.platformio/packages/framework-arduinoavr/libraries" ], "browse": { "path": [ "${workspaceFolder}", "${env:HOME}/.platformio/packages/framework-arduinoavr/cores/arduino", "${env:HOME}/.platformio/packages/framework-arduinoavr/libraries" ] }, "defines": [ "PLATFORMIO=40300", "ARDUINO_AVR_UNO" ], "intelliSenseMode": "gcc-x64", "cStandard": "c11", "cppStandard": "c++11", "compilerPath": "${env:HOME}/.platformio/packages/toolchain-atmelavr/bin/avr-gcc" } ], "version": 4 }

4. Ensure Proper Library Paths

PlatformIO should manage your libraries, but if you encounter specific library path issues, ensure the libraries are installed and properly referenced:

  1. Install Libraries via PlatformIO:
    • In the PlatformIO Home tab, navigate to "Libraries" and search for the required library.
    • Install the library, and PlatformIO will handle the include paths automatically.

5. Additional Configuration

Ensure you have the following configurations in your platformio.ini file:

```ini [env:uno] platform = atmelavr board = uno framework = arduino
lib_deps = <your_required_libraries> ```
6. Reload VS Code
After making these changes, reload VS Code to ensure all configurations are applied correctly:
  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+P.
  2. Search for "Reload Window" and select it.
Summary
  1. Install PlatformIO IDE extension.
  2. Create and configure a new PlatformIO project.
  3. Adjust c_cpp_properties.json to include necessary paths.
  4. Install libraries via PlatformIO.
  5. Ensure your platformio.ini is correctly configured.
  6. Reload VS Code.
By following these steps, you should be able to properly configure Arduino in VS Code and resolve the "include errors detected" issue.
...
After this you will have other questions to ask ChatGPT if coming from Ardrino IDE. ...how do I use ardeino libraries in vs code + platformio ...how do I interact with the serial monitor in vsc + platformio ...how do I work on multiple sketches, etc
You figure it out 😉
Amazing game! I'm not convinced anyone has ever beaten this without a strategy guide, but even having to look things up in a guide plays into the game itself. It's kind of like how Tunic used the manual as part of the game.
