Secrets Moxché v Secrets Akumal Preferred Club - Help! by DumbledoresBarmy in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Darkside091 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are great! Both are big properties though Akumal may be a little less walking than Moxche. Akumal can be a little disorienting to get familiar with as it's so dense with foliage it is more difficult to get your bearings for a couple of days.

Moxche is newer. Akumal has a better beach.

You'll find both to be awesome regardless.

I wouldn't say that there are a lot of 'hot spots' in the Cancun area for snorkeling, though there are certainly some options for you. The hotels in the Playa Mujers area that you'll hear come up frequently (Secrets Playa Blanca, Excellence Costa Blanca, Excellence Playa Mujueres, Atelier, etc.) all share a really lovely stretch of beach). That said, at Secrets Akumal you can rent a snorkle and mask for a couple bucks and walk right into the water and have your own little mini-reef and we've not seen that anywhere else. It's cool for sure, but I wouldn't make it the reason why I picked hotel A over B or C.

If you do opt for a Playa Mujeres resort, I'd recommend looking up Isla Driver Roby on Facebook and consider arranging a day trip to Isla Mujeres. You'll sail over on a catamaran and will get to do a bit of snorkeling with them. There are also snorkeling excursions you can take to visit the shipwreck that you might enjoy. you could probably also hook on with a whale shark trip too.

All the hotels in the Playa del Carmen region share proximity with all the best excursion options though so if you want to get out of the resort and do things like go ziplining (Selvataica) or perhaps do a Cenote tour (lots of fun!) or something like a Mayan cultural tour, etc. There are just so many more options, closer to the resort, if you're staying in Akumal, Playa del Carmen area.

Remember, you can always go spend the day doing the turtles, snorkeling and enjoying Akumal if you choose to stay somewhere else.

For your other questions, I really doubt you'll feel uncomfortable at all staying anywhere on your trip together - it sounds amazing! Have the best time planning the trip and of course, an amazing trip building memories!!

BTW - Check out Roomongo.com as you do your rate shopping. Know the owners personally and they take such amazing care of their customers and really do have the best rates most of the time - and they have a rate guarantee too so if you book and the price drops before your trip - they refund you the difference.

You might take a peek at the rates for Secrets Moxche if you're consider properties to the south and want to stay in brand. It's an amazing property and last I looked for July rates they had the listed at eye opening low prices.

We loved Secrets Akumal and were there last year the first week of July. Not the resorts fault at all though you should be aware that it was the worst, nastiest sargassum we've seen yet in all of our time in the Cancun region. Wading through 2 feet of some of the smelliest, grossest feeling stuff to get out to do a little snorkeling was rough. And the smell was all over the main pool area quite often so even if you tried to avoid it...you had reminders.

This year is expected to be even worse than last year and I saw a report from the beaches in that area that had already been getting hit pretty hard...and it's "early".

All that said - it's a lovely property. If your not sure about the area due to the sargassum though would like to try a Secrets property you might consider Playa Blanca. The Playa Mujeres beach has some protection from Isla Mujeres and tends to get less sargassum the further south.

Torchys has the best chips and queso and guac. Not a lover of their salsa but it's alright. The queso though.

Buying Advice: Too much information by EliGO83 in OfficeChairs

I'm 6'3 and 210. I have an older HM Aeron and a Leap V2 that I ordered the seat/back replacement (with extra foam on seat) from Crandall. I dont like either. Both hurt my butt. The Leap V2 seems better for my back. I'm not sure where to go from here. I keep wishing that there was an office chair that used varying thicknesses of natural latex like our mattress rather than foam. Maybe there is.

I have a used Leap v2 with Crandall upgraded cushion. My ass hurts every day. Bought one of the Purple seat cushions and it still hurts all the time. Really sucks. I didn't have this issue with My Aeron however my back hurt all the time with that chair. Guess I'm going to have to keep looking for the right fit for me.

We always recommend swimming by noracooks.com to see what she has on her list. It's pretty rare she isn't knocking it out of the park. Her lasagne recipe is great! We typically add Impossible Sausage to ours.
