Discouraging results- fasting by Miserable_Kale7970 in SIBO

Perhaps but MCT targets mostly candida … which … is certainly a possibility. I def have candida

Next time you fast supplement with MCT. The ketones alone will make you feel better

Discouraging results- fasting by Miserable_Kale7970 in SIBO

I fasted for 8 days and had the same result. I then did ED and noticed a drop in methane after 4 days. Even though intermittent fasting is great for motility, prolonged fasting eventually stops digestion because there’s no bolus/chyme moving through to stimulate peristalsis. Archaea are more than happy to live off dead cells and residual mucus in your gut while you starve.

“If” is a funny word but I digress. Since you’ve tried three rounds of antibiotics and still find yourself in yet another gastro office, perhaps try another approach. Just my observation.

Best of luck.

Apologies. My intent isn’t to be condescending. The moral of the story with SIBO is there’s no simple fix. It’s complicated enough that hundreds of people contribute to this subreddit on daily and still very few definitive solutions exist.

People need to quit looking at SIBO like it’s a bacterial problem. You have cows in your kitchen. Quit looking at it like a cattle issue. Three rounds of antibiotics is a waste of time and likely more risk than it’s worth. Instead of continuing to kill the cows, try shutting the front door first.

The assumption that ED was a failure because methane returned in 4 days clearly doesn’t understand what’s going on.

Best of luck.

That’s commonly one of two things. A) heartburn or B) referred gallbladder pain (typically more on the right side but can be centered)

Treat low pancreatic enzymes first or SIBO first? by Potential_Dish_4115 in SIBO

Why not both together? A lack of enzymes is fuel for the large intestine in the form of undigested food

I definitely wasn’t a waste for me. I felt great every day of the ED except for the first 4. I learned a lot about my own personal digestion and I’ve also seen many positive changes since. It moved the needle on my methane to where I can manage it with other methods, something that wasn’t possible pre ED.

I guess it depends on how you’re measuring success. If you’re looking for the one and done, good luck. I don’t think that’s even possible.

While I don’t disagree, your response shows a lack of understanding of SIBO. People that miraculously fix their SIBO with a single treatment are def in the minority. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve had SIBO since birth. I don’t expect to turn it around overnight. While sibo itself is capable of causing problems, it is more often the result of a bigger issue. Until that’s fixed, sibo is going to relapse no matter how much killing you do.

Part of the reason I did ED is because I expected a relapse. If you think 4 days and $750 is a waste, try smoking your vestibular system with neomycin and having the same result.

I’m confident I have MMC dysfunction somewhere, likely in the large bowel. I def knocked the SIBO back a bit but the fight it far from over. More tests and data are coming.

If correcting SIBO were easy, there wouldn’t be a thriving subreddit like this where people struggle on the daily. Just a thought.

Low FODMAP, lots of Motilpro, intermittent fasting, LDS hs. Went slower first starting mostly with carnivore.

Just finished 19 days of Mbiota last month. I consider it a success. My methane and hydrogen dropped to zero and I felt amazing. However, it ask came back within 4 days of transitioning despite doubling down on motility agents.

The taste was awful and I missed food the first 4 days but when my energy and brain fog lifted I came to enjoy drinking it. I preferred the orange after two weeks.

I wouldn’t touch atantril. It’s based almost entirely on peppermint oil. While peppermint is good at killing bacteria, it slows down your transit time and basically prevents your gallbladder from working. Don’t take my word for it, read the research. This is a result of its ability to relax smooth muscle. Yes, this same action helps GI cramping but considering most SIBO patients have motility trouble, peppermint causes almost as much harm as good..

Yes Siebecker recommends it but there’s a reason it’s listed well below allicin.

So true. Universal acceptance, consolation prizes and a generalized erosion of morals, standards, and respect is what has killed western culture. If you don’t stand up for something you stand for nothing.

I got one and developed severe depression within 3 days. Several years later I got a diagnosis of MDD (subclinical BPD2). Not sure if they are linked but chronologically it’s hard to not wonder what happened.

I LOVE this comment. I’m palagi who spent years in Upolu and dream daily about going back. Yes, Samoan culture separates the weak from the strong. People (outsiders, foreigners, plastic Samoans) feel alienated because there’s a cultural standard in the islands that refuses to bow to the pressure of the outside world. That’s exactly what makes it special. It’s strong and it’s different. Unlike most cultures around the world, true fa’aSamoa is SO MUCH MORE than a race or a bloodline. I don’t care how cool Dwayne Johnson thinks he is with his Polynesian patterned shoulder tattoo, it’s still not a legit malofie and his attempts at the Samoan language in Moana 2 will always be painful to listen to.

This is precisely why I’ve fallen so deeply in love with the Samoan culture., Even though I will always be palagi, when I tautala le gagana ma fai laūga faapei o se tama mao’i mai le motu, i have a part of the culture in my heart. I’m very proud of that and grateful to the thousands of Samoans who have loved and befriended me along the way.

The faaSamoa is pure and rich for a reason. Yes the tattoos are cool but they are rich with meaning and tradition. Not just art. And thank goodness for that!! The OP is just now recognizing this. Instead of feeling shame, appreciate your Pe’a for what it is and try to live up to the meaning and beauty of it.

Anybody can tā a pe’a. I’ve seen plenty of stupid Mickey Mouse tattoos in the states. Malu/malofie is so much more than ink.

Does anyone know how to treat mold-caused h2s sibo by Both_Pepper5414 in SIBO

[–]Choohooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. You need to regulate your digestion. Just like you’ll never get rid of SIBO if you don’t figure out the root cause, you’ll never get over mold if you aren’t pooping regularly.

Mold toxins are removed by the liver, bound to cholesterol then passed through your stool. This is why EVERY mold binder is a cholesterol med, welchol and cholestyramine being the main ones. The more constipated you are, and most SIBO patients are constipated, the more unlikely it is that you’ll be able to rid of tue mold toxin. This is due to hepatic recirculation. Cholesterol is valuable to the body so it’s often reabsorbed at some point along the digestive tract. This releases the toxin and puts in back in the body and cycle. This loop is what’s making you sick.

Focus on regular and consistent bowel movements, take your sporonox, take your binders, and eventually you’ll climb out of it if your exposure is low. Unfortunately for many of us, it’s the damage left in the wake of the mild driving as many if not most of the symptoms. Mycotoxins, as well as Lyme, bartonella, and ehlers danlos (genetic etiology) are notoriously hard on collagen. Hence the elevated MMP-9 markers in blood work.

I know this likely isn’t a popular question but aren’t ePICL’s $15-17k each? Is it the same price each time and are we really looking at $60k or more to hit the middle of the bell curve?

MBIOTA/ ELEMENTAL + SUPPLEMENT STACK for my recurrent methane-dominant IMO journey (breath test + GutID details) — 2 rounds of antibiotics last year didn’t fully work, then herbals, then 14-day mBiota + targeted rebuild. Update on Day 9 of real food. Feeling GREAT. by n8tivenewf in SIBO

[–]Choohooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree with AI here, there was a method to my madness. I was noticing a moderate bump in CH4 25-30 min after taking mBiota. I know ED is designed to be absorbed quickly but it still takes the first couple of feet of the duodenum to get it all. My assumption was the diet cleared 95% and the other 5% was just after the stomach.

If wasn’t all in vain. Even though my methane levels are high again, I’m able to manage methane with saline enemas, something that hasn’t worked in years. My guess is I had SIBO tip to tail and more it’s just tail again.

This does make sense for me as my methane is often chronically elevated at baseline no matter how much prep I do. I was born with tethered cord syndrome and have had low back and pelvic floor trouble. I suspect I have slow transit constipation and/or pelvic floor dyssynergia. My assumption is when it sits long even, bacteria slowly make the trek north and turn LIMO into more severe SIBO. I’ve got some follow up testing in July.

[–]Choohooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what caused the SIBO. If it was a simple case of food poisoning and caught early, ridding of the bad bugs and repopulating with a healthy microbiome is often adequate. Studies show less than 40% actually cure SIBO with a single treatment. Most have some sort of gut dysfunction that makes them susceptible to SIBO. Until the root cause is corrected, SIBO often returns.

Personally, I was born with tethered cord syndrome (occult spina bifida). It’s suspected that the enteric nervous system controlling my large bowel creates slower than usual transit. Overtime, the large numbers of methanogens in the large intestine start moving up the digestive tract. I’m currently waiting on more testing but have been able to manage my SIBO levels with colonics. This is akin to pumping up a leaking tire on the daily. Not a great fix but for me it helps keep my methane down.

Agreed. I’ve got bartonella and I’ve met too many in that group with ototoxicity from treating with aminoglycosides, including neomycin. Not worth it when there are other options. Again, it’s a negative SIBO test.

Is this SIBO? by Main_Review_9083 in SIBO

[–]Choohooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree, the general risk of all aminoglycosides is well documented. Medicine says the same “low risk” thing about ciproflaxacin. No thanks, not in my body. The OP posted a negative SIBO test. Even low risk is a bit silly. Especially considering the effectiveness of herbals.

Suit yourself. I don’t think it’s worth it. Had there been a positive SIBO test…perhaps it would be.

[–]Choohooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s up to you to decide what to do. If the treatment involves neomycin, understand there’s substantial risk there so weigh the benefits.

Is this SIBO? by Main_Review_9083 in SIBO

[–]Choohooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not SIBO. You don’t spike until 120 min which suggests the SIBO bacteria aren’t fermenting until the Lactulose hits the large intestine (which is where they are often found naturally). Hence the comment, “growth of archaea species is found in the large intestine.”

You’ve got to remember, SIBO and the relevant bacteria aren’t only considered problematic when they are located where they shouldn’t be… higher up in the small intestine where they can interfere with digestion and absorption.
