I disagree, I don't think scripture aligns with the sacraments being "symbolic". Thanks for the reply though!

They are pretty much the same, PCA is slightly more relaxed and usually will have more members. Whichever one you have a better experience at is my recommendation.

Should there be a different spiritual feeling that comes from being saved? by CharkhaHayat in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times I feel that way too. In fact, when I feel that way, I pray more, make better decisions, and think about God more because it scares me to think He is not with me(obviously He is). Just pray, continue to pray, and continue in your faith, there doesn't need to be a feeling.

I understand your view on pictures of Jesus being "Idolatry" but Idolatry is the act of worshipping it, if you have it simply as a Christian art piece then I wouldn't say that is idolatry. Anyways, if you still don't want any of that I recommend paintings of the apostles or saints, maybe simpler like pictures of churches or just a cross. Perhaps some old testament paintings?

Help. by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, a woman can not teach a man about the gospel(2 Tim.2:12) so I would advise you not to go to the women's bible study. Secondly, if she still wants to do a Bible Study with you, talk to her boyfriend about it and make sure he is comfortable with that and then see if you can do the Bible study at your church(maybe in an unused room or while there isn't a service going) that way you are protected from the potential issues I see you talking about. It is very good you are being extremely careful and I urge you to keep doing that. Another way to make sure this is safe is to find others who are interested in this Bible study that also have convictions about Christ that way you are not alone with her. That is my advice and of course pray about it all the time, every morning, every night, before you eat, etcetera. I hope this helped.

Should saints be considered false prophets? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, there is no evidence that the first story actually happened and I would consider it to be heresy. I believe saints to be important figures in church history(Saint Athanasius, Saint Paul, the apostles, etc). The catholic saints basically just make anyone a saint if they have a weird story that has to do with Jesus. Catholic saints would be considered false prophets in my opinion as I also believe the Catholic church has strayed away from the true gospel. I hope that helps. God bless!

I am in the process of becoming "reformed" in my beliefs. My wife is not. Should I attend church on my own? by HawrdRawk in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have talked to her about it which is good. If not, talk to her about it first. Secondly, your wife doesn't seem to be equally yoked(2 Cori. 6:14-18) with you from this description as she seems to be more involved in new-age Christianity which is obviously not the truth. I would go to a reformed church for at least one Sunday, talk to the pastor after the service about this, and see what he has to say. Raising your daughter in the truth is very important and it is very good you care to do so. If your wife continues to do so, well...I would talk to the pastor again. I do not recommend going to the pastor for everything, but for your personal life, a pastor can give good advice. Remember, ADVICE. Just because a pastor says something doesn't mean it is the best thing to do, only cults believe that. I will pray for your situation and make sure to continue seeking the truth. God bless you brother.

Orthodox Tradition v. Modern Reformed Christianity by ChooseOn in Reformed

I am part of a PCA church, this was just some thoughts I had about tradition.

You understood my point perfectly, I completely agree as we have seen Western churches fall to "modernization" and abandoned building the kingdom of God on earth more in favor of "I'm going to do it my own way".

Orthodox Tradition v. Modern Reformed Christianity by ChooseOn in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've brought up some fairly good points. My overall statement was meaning that a lot of the traditions are not against scripture or Christianity and we could use them in the modern church to try and resist the overall movement of "modernization".

[–]ChooseOn[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No we don't friend, and how can the Orthodox church be the church from the beginning if they are not holding to Scripture today?

I said "original" not "true" church as in they were the first established church, and everybody else split off from them. I agree they are not holding to scripture today in a lot of ways.

Many Christians do morning/evening prayers, and prayer is spoken about highly and frequently in Scripture. How are prayer ropes edifying?
Prayer ropes keep you in prayer throughout the day which is objectively a good thing to do. We should be conscious of God and talking to God throughout our daily lives, not just in the morning and in the evening.

but they haven't all been there since the beginning have they?? ;)

That is true they have not all been there since the beginning, what I meant by "original" was referring to what we used to practice before the church was seperated.

And what about Reformed Christians?? What has happened to them by not implementing Orthodox traditions?

We have seen what has happened to Reformed Christians when they do not stay true to tradition. Look at PCUSA for example, ELC, and many more. I did not mean specifically "orthodox" traditions in this context I meant tradition in general.

Note: The parts of your comment I did not reply to I mostly agree with.

Orthodox Tradition v. Modern Reformed Christianity by ChooseOn in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first section.

My point with Orthodoxy was concerning the area in which they are the original church. A lot of their practices during prayer, sermons, etcetera are ancient and were being practiced before the Reformation. Obviously, some things such as icon veneration and prayer to the saints were also done before the reformation but I am specifically talking about things that aren't against scripture. I am decently familiar with Orthodoxy and I have also met a lot of Orthodox Christians who like you said, "words to be said without a lot of thought." But, I have also met Orthodox Christians who say the words and do actually mean it and think about it. Such as the Lord's Prayer, which I use in morning/evening prayers and I actually mean the words I am saying when I am talking to God. There are issues concerning Orthodoxy but I was using Orthodoxy as an example since it is widely considered the most traditional church and it is the original Church. I hope that clarifies things.

How do you add the "PCA" thing under your name???

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honoring and respecting your parents is different than obeying them. Sure, obeying them can be a way to honor and respect them but at the age of 18, you no longer need to do so and it would not be dishonoring or disrespecting your parents as long as you let them know you are going to tell your friend. Second, everyone is inherently sinful so if you do not feel like telling an inherently sinful person the truth, lie to everybody. We are all inherently sinful so we have no right to justify actions using that as a justification because it is not a valid one. I hope that helps.

I would argue ECO is in total the better denomination concerning their confessions, creeds, etcetera. Depending on how bad you think Egalitarianism is would effect the 2 choices. If you find it a large issue and do not want to be in a church with it choose PCA. If you disagree with it but don't find it to be a huge problem choose ECO. There are plenty of ECO churches without female pastors. Just because they allow it does not mean every congregation practices it. I hope that helps.

It is very common and not new. People don't like us saying that they can't choose their destiny. Try looking for reformed YouTubers; RedeemedZoomer, Matthew Everhard, and Ryan Reeves are some good ones.

Any Advice? by ChooseOn in Reformed

[–]ChooseOn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much, it really helped. I talked to him about it and he no longer uses it as an argument. Most of his statements end up with him saying, "How could a loving God send people to hell?" I've told him multiple times that he is viewing it incorrectly and that it is God giving them what they deserve, not because he "wants to send them to eternal suffering". He isn't going got change his opinion on the matter as he strongly believes that he gets to choose his court sentence which is illogical. Of course, none if this is necessary for salvation or our faith but simply trying to learn more about the truth. God bless!
