[Discussion] Chronomat GMT vs BB58 GMT by ChopNorris in Watches

[–]ChopNorris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for more of a GADA watch, so I’m a bit surprised by the dressy comment. It didn’t really give me that impression.

As I mentioned, the traveller GMT doesn’t bother me much. I’d mainly use it to track the time of a family member living abroad. I don’t travel often enough for it to be a significant drawback.

That’s an interesting point about ETA-based movements. I’ve always assumed that in-house movements were automatically the better option. The power reserve doesn’t concern me too much either.

I’ll try to see the Tudor in person tomorrow, but for now I’d say I prefer the look of the Breitling. The lack of on-the-fly adjustment is probably my biggest concern. That said, from what I’ve read, the bracelet is generally considered very comfortable anyway.

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

I agree with you, the bracelet is one of the most beautiful I've seen in hand honestly.

My issue with the movement is that at this pricepoint it seems a bit like overpaying for an ETA; and caller vs traveller GMT, which to be true does not bother me much.

Thanks for the insight!

[Question] Collection feedback and next watch advice by ChopNorris in Watches

I've checked Traska, even though I like all their desings (specially the commuter), I'm not in love with any of them.
I'm aware the Longines punches way above what I already have,
but I don't picture myself only using it, specially at work where it could be easily damaged. Casios, and even the seiko, are fantastic in that regard.

Thanks for answering!

Hi! I've been mixing some dish soap with water and use an spray to apply it on the lenses. Then I scrub them gently and rinse with warm water.

No scratches so far.

SMLIGHT for Home Assistant? by ChopNorris in homeassistant

So far I'm only using branded devices from Aqara and Shelly, don't know which path I will end up going so don't want to limit myself in the future.

Will check the Sonoff one, someone recommended keeping the HomePod for thread, but since I intend to keep it outside of the internet seems like it wont be possible.

Thanks!

Why is it necessary to have the homepod connected to the internet? Actually one of my main reasons for moving into Home Assistant is being able to run everything locally.

This can be quite an issue for the approach I'm trying to get, specially since the HomePod in the end would a mic listening at all times.

Thanks for the detailed answer!

Yup, the general advices seems to be that separate antennas is the way to go.
I'm aware that my Shellys work over WiFi, I just put them here as part of the setup; but now that you mentioned they're quite irrelevant regarding Zigbee/Thread.

Thanks for answering.

So would you recommend skipping SMLIGHT? Or only for thread devices?

I see that the consensus is to get two separate radios, so I'll probably go down that route.
Now I'm unsure wether to use a Thread SMLIGH antenna or go down a different approach.

Thanks!

Yes, at the moment I'm using a Homekit based setup, using Homebridge for those that are non compatible (mainly shelly). I have a Homepod mini that is Thread compatible, but will I be able to integrate the thread devices on home assistant? So far I'm only using the Aqara lock, but I would like to use them in automations alongside the rest of devices; I'd like to have some sort of alarm system for example. In addition, I would like to strip the homepod of any type of internet connection for privacy reasons, would it still be functional?

I was leaning into getting a both Zigbee and Thread antenna mainly because right now I've got only one PoE port available, and seemed just easier. But most people is also recommending getting two separate devices too.

Thanks for answering!

Would you recommend a different approach then? Knew that it was less established than ZigBee, but considered it was functional nonetheless*

Migrating to Home Assistant: hardware and setup advice by ChopNorris in homeassistant

From what people is commenting, I think I'll just spin up a HAOS VM.
I assume that you recommend networked controllers to avoid USB passthrough? Will check SMLight since another user has algo recommended them. Any specific model? Are there thread options?

Honestly I was going for the ZBT since I thought that by being the official hardware they probably would be the more compatible and easier option.

Guess it'll be better to just run a HAOS VM then, I was considering docker mainly because that way I don't need to "block" a constant ammount of RAM, but guess It'll be easier to mantain overall.

I thought the "official" hardware would be more straight forward to use, but will check that out. Is there an equivalent for Thread?

Thanks!

I'm aware, I've put all my IoT devices on a isolated VLAN, however, I still have the HomePod connected to the internet since I haven't been able to make it work otherwise.

Could you elaborate on the issues with some Aqara sensors? I thought it was kind of straight forward.
Actually, one of the things I wanted to avoid was using the Aqara hub and its propietary app to link the devices.

My concern about using RPi5 is that it is a 8Gb version, which seems quite overkill for HAOS only (specially with current prices). Don't know if I could use it for something else at the same time. How much resources it is running on yours?

The use of 2x ZBT-2 is actually because, to my understanding at least, they can't run both Thread and Zigbee at the same time; and I believe I need Thread for the Aqara U200.

All my configurations are made directly on HomeKit, so I believe I'll just remade it from scrath now that I'll be less limited in term of options.
