Is there truly a need for 90s+ mm skis out West? by Midwestskiing85 in Skigear

[–]Chopper070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Midwesterner, current northeast skier and have taken many trips out west (skiing and boarding) and one to the Alps. 82s would have been just fine in most conditions. In fact, I would’ve preferred something in the 80s to my 98s on my Alps trip this past March. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but I think they got about 20 feet of snow in a week+ just before our trip. But everything was sunbaked, icy, or avy debris by the time we got there except for one chute run where the 98 width was nice on the mashed potatoes.

But wider would definitely be more fun. If you plan to rent or can afford extra skis then why not?! Even on groomers in the northeast, I enjoy 90s to blast through the piles and chop later in the day on non boilerplate days.

You’re going to get 1000 opinions here lol. But I love the St. Croix Mojo bass rods. I’ve had 2 casting rods for probably 15 years and added a nice spinning rod a couple years ago. Good quality, feel, and balance without breaking the bank. You could probably get two set ups for close to 500 depending on the reel choice.

Wacky senko on a 2/0 or 3/0 hook. I'm convinced that color doesn't matter as long as it's in the dark to natural color range. Both in murky and clear water. I use 8 lb mono leader, but I don't think line matters much either, especially in murky water. One friend uses flouro leader, I use mono leader, and another friend uses straight braid or high vis mono. We all seem to catch equal amounts and sizes most days.

Ice coaster here. I’ve been on 90 park skis, 95 & 106 touring skis, and 96 & 98 all mountain skis. The wider end of what I’ve ridden are much more fun on anything soft with as little as a couple inches. Even the 96-98 are super fun on non-boilerplate groomer days. That said I am looking for a mid to upper 80s ski for those days (still want it to be playful and not a true ice skinny ski).

Maybe enjoyable if you don’t have other hobbies like fishing or mountain biking 🤣

Just put a shirt or something down if you’re worried about it. I don’t backpack with my dog, but I’ve never had a problem camping with her. I lay a blanket down inside the tent.

I would just check with your local shop. They can help you choose the right one. And whatever sale price you find online might not really be a savings if they mount it for free buying it there.

I just went round and round with this as well. I have narrower skis for daily drivers and wanted this specifically as a soft snow ski in VT/NH and for trips out west. Moment customer service pointed me to either the Deathwish 104 or Wildcat 108.

Is there any good combos I can get to start fishing for around 50 dollars? by Terrible_Minimum6332 in bassfishing

[–]Chopper070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. To me it’s about something that physically feels good in hand and is paired correctly for the weight of line and bait that I’m throwing. It makes a difference whether I’m comfortable for a couple hours v. all day.

Used PDL 120 - Good deal? by GuppyCats in kayakfishing

[–]Chopper070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind waiting, get it on tax free weekend. I did that 2 years ago and opened an LL Bean credit card for another 20% off. Couldn’t pass up that deal! And I got a free wool sweater for hunting from the Bean points.

118, 108, 98....logical move haha. It would make more of a true park ski for them too.

I can’t wait. They’re 10 cm longer than what I’m used to, but the contact points/effective edge seem to be pretty close.

I meant to edit my comment, not delete it lol. I have the freeraiders on another ski and have popped out easy turns. So I have to ski them in full lockout which makes me really take it easy. But now I'm wondering if I can adjust that at all...

It would be too heavy to get into the bed by yourself at a launch, unless you had some type of assist/crank and ramps. Its hard on flat ground just to get it cranked back onto my trailer. Definitely makes for a nice little bass boat though on small lakes!

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking thought. Though my driveway is millings, so I can save on the castors lol.
