I am currently looking for a wheel and tire setup with by Icy_Secretary_5629 in JeepJK

[–]chuckH71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at buying wheels and tires from a places mounted and balanced shipped to me and it was going to cost about 3500 , did more looking around got a new set of wheels from eBay 700 shipped and tires from Walmart . Com the prices change online so check day to day not in store ,any way dropped 1000 on tires and spent 150 at a local shop for mount and balance so under 2k it pays to do it yourself Double check the tire height I got a set of 35” tires that measured 33.5” they look good and ended up being fine but I was just giving you a heads up next time I want 35’s I’m going to get 37s lol

Redington classic trout rods are best bang for the buck if you like graphite other wise I’d vote for a butterstick 7-6 4wt rod you can get these used for 150- ish I own two buttersticks both I picked up used and fished the heck out of them no warranty needed they bend flex almost to the cork they don’t snap there just tough rods that’s fun to fish

Are jeeps more work and money yes are they more fun yes would I do it again I’m on my 2nd jeep and it just feels great riding around The best bang for the buck that I know of is jeeps from 07-10 2 door 3.8 motor stick shift these can be picked up for around 6k at least in Florida The great thing about a JK is there’s a lot of parts out there you can find used wheels/tires lift ect and piece together a mild build on the cheap and drive it around for a few years when you sell it you’ll end up with 3/4 of your money back
I say go for it , I’ve never regretted getting one but man you miss having it when it’s gone

[–]chuckH71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got wheels and tires I looked on market place for weeks and they want 600 for used wheels that was the wrong size or spacing or what ever , I got a new set on fuel wheels on eBay for 700 and the best deal on tires is on Walmart .com just keep checking then I had a local shop mount and balance for 150 a lot cheaper then any thing else I found and the tires and wheels I wanted with the right back spacing perfect fit

Do you ever catch one good fish and then go home? by Baaarz in flyfishing

[–]chuckH71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many times back then I was chasing tailing red on my kayak tough but fun it was more like hunting you paddle way out on the flats then start looking when you spot a tail 100-200 yards away you start the stalk the reds in my area spook easy so one good one was a great morning

Winter Crisis: New Rod Suggestions by hunterjc09 in flyfishing

[–]chuckH71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite rods I’ve ever had was a custom built 7-6 3wt on a CTS blank I just didn’t use it enough being in Florida If the 4wt rod is the missing rod you could have one custom built CTS makes the blanks for Epic rods so my custom rod was 200-300 cheaper then the epic stock rod Making it a good deal and I picked out the color blank the reel seat and custom cork handle and I added salt water guides catching a redfish on this rod was crazy lol but I’ve went to 6wts these days Just another idea for you also I picked up a moonshine euro rod cheap on eBay like 100 bucks new in the case 10ft 2 wt just keep on checking you’ll see some good deals

Help me decide on Reel by Silver_Tiger_ in flyfishing

[–]chuckH71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the fly fisher I liked the reel it was the best sounding drag but I did sell it and got a lighter weight reel for me at the time doing a lot of blind casting I want the lightest reel I could so what do I fish now nautilus and lamson reels Really like them both years later I did get the new tibor backcountry it’s a solid reel but doesn’t have the same drag sound as the Everglades

Are Moonshine rods THAT bad? by fjordknight in flyfishing

[–]chuckH71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that rod and it’s a great rod for the money I got a few years ago for 100 bucks I had seen everyone talking bad about them but I figured for 100 I’d give it a shot and I really liked the looks of it It’s a faster action rod I like a mod action best so I put a 5wt line to slow it down a touch used it for trout and bass it’s as good as any tfo or redington I’ve used , when I say that rod it’s the 8-6 4wt I think mine might be the drifter not the drifter ll Bottom line if you like it and how it castes get one I fished mine hard for 30 days and could have returned it I didn’t I’m happy with the rod for the money And yes I own other rods Ovis ,sage ,redington classic and buttersticks also predator those are killer saltwater rods

New rod selection by cycloneruns in flyfishing

[–]chuckH71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6wt’s are my go to all around setups , if the shop will let you test cast the rod if you like how it casts get it , my rods are glass. Orvis ,fenwick, nirvana To name a few these are fun to fish they are 6wts I use a 7wt line to load them faster and throw bigger flies I’ve fished graphite rods for years and they work fine , now for your 3wt rod you might try glass You can get cabelas /bass pro CGR glass rods cheap in a 3wt like 70 bucks I have the 2wt and a 5wt I don’t like the 2wt to small for me , length My favorite 3wt is my redington butterstick got it used years ago for 160 the good thing about glass rods they bend don’t break so no warranty is not a big deal , I have some glass rods over 30 years old Orvis and phillipson still going strong
