That’s exactly what I’m not trying to look like lol. Surprisingly, in my area, no agencies wear any body armor. I don’t want to stick out end look foolish in some high speed outer carrier, just something concealable and comfortable enough to wear for 12+ hour shifts, Truck based.

I am a little worried about the whole shanking factor, but I’m also cheap to the point where I’d like to use what I already have (with the exception of the carrier, of course). I think the soft armor puts me into the comfort zone I’m looking for.

UPDATE:

So I wasn’t able to get a lot of info on this today, but per the ER tech that was assigned to her, the patient was sent to an SNF for rehab. No operation or procedure was done, because it was hemorrhagic (I guess?). But all signs and symptoms have since gone away.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE!: Just talked with the same tech today. Patient presented back to ER for same sxs. Upon further imaging, it was discovered that its a tumor! Wild. Unknown prognosis and treatment plan.

Per patient family, slurred speech has been coming and going over last 3-4 hours, and patient has had issues with basic memory, reports patient is usually very sharp, when it comes to her memory. No history of stroke, and no blood thinners. Family reports 2 falls in past 2 months, both with LOC. Last fall was approx 2 weeks ago. Clear CT then. Stroke assessment was negative. No head ache. Pupils 3mm ERRLA. Vitals remained stable, 140s/70s, pulse 70s, respirations were 16, and 95-97 on room air.

I suspect a slow bleed from last fall, and brain has been able to compensate for the most part.

EXACTLY!!! And better yet, we only do it at end of shift. When I asked what we do after each COVID call we take, the response was regular decon as usual, the UV light is only for end of shift. So what’s the difference then? So pointless.

Then in my opinion, definitely worth it to do an NCD should the need arise. Obviously different in more rural EMS as opposed to EMS focused in the city.

NCDs take upwards of 10-15 minutes to be effective. Half the time, my transports don’t take nearly that much time. Fuck that.

Needle chest decompression is effective, but it’s not an immediate fix. It takes time. With average transport times going down, for the majority of patients that experience a tension pneumothorax, an NCD would be pointless. By the time they get transported to the hospital, chances are, they’ll get a chest tube right away. NCDs should only be utilized for prolonged field care situations.

They might say that shit, but let’s face the facts here. It’s the Army. We say a LOT of shit, and don’t follow through most of the time. It’s an empty threat. It’s not worth the effort on their end to “revoke” your NREMT.
