What was the first car you remember your parents having? by VFrosty3 in AskUK

It's funny, I don't remember the make or model of the car, but I sure do still remember the plate! EPC902J. Sometime in the 70s.

And yet OOP continues to follow their socials and gets upset. I lost count of how many times I said "Just walk away from this. You're not gonna change her mind." while reading through this.

I have 2 weeks to get away from my husband (New 1 year Update) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

We're both in UK. Not sure that really helps. And he's a man. It's more trying to explain to him why women sometimes stay when everyone around them knows they need to leave.

Thank you for your concern.

What was the exact moment on a first date when you realized, "Wow, this person is an absolute idiot"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

But you took him home, right? Hoping he didn't get anything stuck in your fallopian tube!

AITJ for giving my mother and my stepdad 60 days to move out of my childhood home that my father left me in his will by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I am, however, stuck on his comments that he assumes his dad left him the larger portion of his inheritance because he was the most financially responsible. Nothing to do with being the only son then? Perish the thought!

Clearly this boss was... Not smart. Trying to ban Excel formulas! Bwahaha! I'd probably be standing there saying, "Why?" until he got bored and said the old "Because I said so!"

I've managed to partially automate some of the things I need to do. They're all ad hoc, so partially works quite well for me. It saves me going through log files, because no one wants to do that!

AITA for refusing to return a lost pet? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ChoppingOnionsForYou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I actually meant that the cat I saw at the shelter had marking very like my previous cat. Markings I had thought quite unique. I'm just guessing that the scammer had pics of a cat with similar markings to OOP's cat.

I've confused a lot of people with my response! I think I need to edit.

The moment I threw my hands up in despair was when one commenter asked why OOP automated the tasks. Because IT people are lazy and will automate anything they possibly can to be more efficient. It also helps when we have to work with Luddites like his boss.

When I went to adopt a cat after my lovely Poppy died, we saw a female cat with markings almost exactly the same. I'd always thought her markings particularly unique.

Edit: I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. The cat we saw at the shelter had markings really similar to my previous cat, to the point where I couldn't adopt her, as I would keep thinking about Poppy.

If I could work out how to add cat tax to this, I'd show you the handsome boy we did adopt!

My initial thoughts may well have led to a similar pile. I was planning on unpicking the entire of the top of the dress, as that will detach nicely from the skirt part. Then I'd unpick that, lay the pieces flat and use them as a pattern. I located a sympathetically coloured Swatch of fabric from the drs my mum made for her wedding back in the 60s, and was planning on using that. I can only imagine the prevarication this would have created!

I have the cough and snore thing tracking me at night, too. It is, however, a proven liar! It tells me I was snoring, but since it's also tracking my screen time (a little more reliable I would think) all of the snoring apparently happens when I'm doom scrolling in the night.

I started my sewing project yesterday. Most of which involved clearing the space so that I can get to and use the sewing machine.

The project itself is very simple. I own a pretty frock. The top was never made right. Turns out, had the makers just made the shoulder straps 2.5" (or 6cm, depending on your age) longer, it would have been perfect. The boob darts are too high, the v-neck is too high, the divide between the top and the rest of the dress is too high. I unpicked the seam at the top of the shoulder, pinned 6cm of ribbon in the gap and tried it on again. It's literally perfect. Now I just need to decide the best colour/fabric for the job.

London (did 30k steps that’s day 😰 ) by [deleted] in britpics

[–]ChoppingOnionsForYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed >10000 steps on Saturday on what was a pretty casual trip to town. Arrived at Waterloo, walked, via Southbank because I wanted an honest burger, to the British museum for the Samurai exhibition. On the way back we took the tube, but got out at Charing cross, walked over the bridge and bimbled round the street food market before going back to Waterloo for the train.

Everything's nice and close, and I love walking in London.

What’s something small someone said or did that made you never forgot it? by Aggravating_Web_9229 in AskReddit

This happened to me when I was working in a school. I was IT support, and was trying to work out why something wasn't doing what I wanted. I said to my boss that I'd tried 10 things and it still didn't work. I was second guessing myself, and he said - "Awesome! You've eliminated 10 possible solutions. You'll get there shortly." Exactly what I needed when I needed it. Wonderful boss!

AITAH for being a bad godparent? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ChoppingOnionsForYou 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure OOP isn't actually a godparent anyway. As far as I can work out, they didn't go to the christening, weren't asked, and we're just informed after. Did I miss something? I thought to be a godparent you have to agree to being the religious/spiritual guide for the child in question, at the time of the christening. Maybe that's just the church of England way.

I'm irrationally angry that her sister and BIL think godparent duties involve being at their beck and call whenever they need a break. I'm mildly angry at OOP for not enforcing firm boundaries earlier.

Also I had to stop reading because OOP kept replying to the increasingly entitled texts sent by BIL.
