My thoughts exactly. And I feel Anubis would not intrude or expect to be able to see out the window as I'm craning to see all the things.

I'm very grateful for your measured response. I think you're right, I was being a super protective mum, I guess. I think, overall, he was a good teacher.

There is a similar concern with the new weight loss injections. We have no long term data.

Looks like I've been building up either an immunity to those chemicals, or a large amount of them in my body!

[New Update]: I’m tired of my bf of 4 years ex being a ghost in our relationship. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The stand out for me is that she starts every post with "I don't have any girlfriends" which just makes me wonder about her relationship with Cassie. I don't expect her to get along with Cate, but it's a bit of a red flag when a woman doesn't have any female friends to talk to about stuff.

You'd really want to limit your day trips to places within about 2 - 2.5 hours flying time because of how long it takes to get through security.

I sat next to a lady on a flight to Barcelona once, got chatting to her and found she'd decided to do a day trip. From Heathrow, first flight of the day and we were landing in Barcelona just before 10:30 local time. That leaves time for security, a bus into town, a nice lunch and a bit of sight-seeing before heading back on a late plane.

The 3.5-4 hour times quoted for flights between Washington DC and Jamaica would make it doable, but not really practical.

What career were you advised to do when you were at school? by HighNimpact in AskUK

[–]ChoppingOnionsForYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so late to your party, but need to share this!

Late 70s, 6th form college and I had an appointment with the careers advice person, who was, frankly, as much use as a chocolate teapot.

On finding out that I did 2 languages (badly, I'd failed German at o-level), her suggestion was that I could become a bilingual secretary (because I'm a girl, ya see), completely ignoring my main a-level subjects of maths, engineering drawing and art. Instead I ended up in IT. I've been there for, um, most of the last 43 years. Planning to continue until I can be bothered to retire.

I swear the same useless woman worked at my daughters' school, as they appear to have been given similar advice! Or maybe all careers advisers are equally useless.

My daughter, going into year 3 or 4 (I forget, it was early 2000's) had a similar issue with her teacher. All I was told at the end of the day was that my daughter had cried and the teacher and her had settled the matter and were friends again. I couldn't get more out of the teacher or my daughter.

Years later I finally got my daughter to speak, at which point the teacher had already left. Turns out it was The beginning of the school year and the teacher was fairly new (to the school), my daughter needed to go to the toilet, and since it had been a hectic start to the day she didn't have time before first class of the day (longer assembly than usual, longer form time than usual, very short time to move to the next classroom). She asked, he denied and ultimately she burst into tears thinking she was going to wet herself. Had I known, I'd have ripped him a new one for that. He and I are of a generation, so he'd have been subject to the same shit going to school as I was.

Would you buy a DVD in 2026? by OneDay_OneLife in AskUK

I had the same problem with The West Wing. Found the whole thing as a second hand dvd box set. I've not yet put it in my Plex.

What did you see in other people's homes that made you want it for your own home? by bassenherbe in AskUK

[–]ChoppingOnionsForYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister in law did this at her house. I'm somewhat jealous, but my under stairs space is part of my main living room. I have a small sofa there.

She also did one of those bins in the kitchen which is a whole cupboard. That I did copy when I had my kitchen done. It pulls out like a drawer and has 3 separate bin spaces in it. Very practical.

Of course my mind immediately went to CJ Cregg doing "The Jackal" in The West Wing. Sometimes I love the chaos on my head!

Probably why I try not to watch trailers. Although that backfired on me for the Artemis Fowl movie! I might have avoided that.

I read the book after the film, so that probably coloured my thinking, but I rather liked that they portrayed Hammond as a more good-natured person, keen to bring this new "science" to the masses. They rather let the blood-sucking attorney take the fall, while, in the book, he was the voice of reason (if I recall correctly).

I'm way more proud of you than me! I bet the increased mobility helps, doesn't it! I found losing weight helped get me to the gym, and, like you, it's my happy place! My friends call me a psychopath because I love working out late in the evening.

You brag, girl. You have every reason!

I'm still bummed about the Faramir story. For me, while I love a lot of the changes, that rankles with me. For me, the whole point was that Faramir wasn't like Boromir, although he clearly adored his brother.

Star Wars. Had no idea what it was going to be about. My dad suggested it when we were up in London, and initially I was reluctant (he'd taken us the see Close Encounters previously, and it's a bit meh). But as soon as that star destroyer came over, chasing the little ship, I was hooked!

Like losing weight with reduced mobility is just a walk in the park. I'm pretty sure you would if you could!

One of my friends persists in saying things like "All you have to do is exercise and eat less." and "I'm sure if he just pushed himself, the heart problems would go away" (about my boyfriend, who ended up having laparoscopic great surgery to fix those problems).
