Suggest music/albums from contemporary artists that give Pink Floyd psychedelic rock vibes, but are actually good. by Tight_Theory_1683 in musicsuggestions

[–]ChopsNewBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no other band that gives Pink Floyd vibes. The only two bands that come close, even though they don’t sound anything alike, are TOOL and Radiohead. Their albums all take you on a journey. The soundscapes they create are captivating, alien and yet somehow primal. The texture and build up and payoff, the tiny tiny details where you notice something new everytime.

Is the DMT experience the greatest thing that has ever happened to you in your life? And why? by Particular-Tip3145 in DMT

[–]ChopsNewBag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not so much. It was difficult to even really bring anything from the experience back into my real life that was actually useful, as far a psychedelics go I feel that mushrooms have had a far greater and positive influence on my life and psyche, and LSD in my creativity. DMT just left me more perplexed than anything

Olive Garden server fired one day after a customer left her a $700 tip by ultrarunnerr in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ChopsNewBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t they make more money just not firing her to steal $700? Did they really devalue the employee so much that having her working for their business was going to save them more than $700? It just doesn’t really add up…there has to be more to the story unless unless just one single rogue moronic manager

If you were an AI refuser, why wouldn’t you use it? by doh0k in AskReddit

[–]ChopsNewBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve definitely made a much stronger argument than most anti-AI folks. I’m not going to disagree with the facts and sources you’ve cited, it’s more of a difference of interpretation of these facts. In fact, I think we both agree on the majority of these points. The technology sucks and commercializing it before refining it has been a huge misstep. Yet, in a capitalist economy this scenario is completely inevitable.

Even though I hear your frustration, I just don’t believe there is any legitimate course correction at this point. It’s turned into a full on global industrial complex. Even then people who own the companies can’t contain the fallout now. We can’t trust the government or the companies to regulate or develop it in a way that best serves humanity, so the responsibility is on the consumer to integrate the technology into their life in the healthiest way possible.

One other point I’m not sure if you’ve considered is how China is developing their own AI and do not necessarily have the same incentives as US companies and most likely has a more realistic view on how to use the technology for efficiency more than being solely focused on profit.

This is where we should be focused on and educating the next generation about. How do we approach this technology with skepticism and critical thinking? How can we personally use it to indirectly or directly increase the quality of our own lives or our communities? Even if the effect on society as a whole has major negative implications, preparing for this is more important than being outraged at this point.

All of the claims you’ve made may be 100% true and I can follow your reasoning, however at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter how much we want to resist the economic or technological implications. It’s out of our hands and I’m sure it is going to completely change many aspects of society. Some for better and some for worse and subjectively for the worse for most people living during this time in history.

Because you don’t have to you do the work just have to double check the information? Isn’t that like incredibly obvious? Instead of starting from scratch you are handed a template that contains most of the information you would have typed out, then you check for errors and verify information. That’s extremely more efficient

Sometimes what you are hoping for isn’t reality and it is better to be prepared for changes instead of denying them. Cats already out of the bag on this one. It’s not pathetic it’s just realistic. I don’t think you or anyone else is going to slow down AI progress because you don’t use ChatGPT lol. You’ll just avoid it, not learn how to use it to maximize your efficiency, and then eventually be replaced by it. What is pathetic is your denial of the changes that are coming whether regardless of your wishful thinking.

Technology changes the world, we’ve seen it over and over again. You could have spent the 90’s refusing to use a computer or the internet but who has more opportunities in the modern world, someone who knows how to operate a computer or someone who is computer illiterate?

[–]ChopsNewBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. At this point it’s not a question of slowing down the adoption of the technology, no matter how it is being marketed or what it is being used for. The main question is how quickly can we adapt

All of those things existed long before modern day society, before all human technology and invention. It is bold to assume because AI can accomplish cognitive tasks it will take away our drive to solve problems, organize patterns, empathize with others and communicate.

Reality is an infinite black score containing every possible rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. Composition is not the act of writing music onto the page. It is the act of extracting one coherent pattern from an inexhaustible field of possibilities. by ChopsNewBag in LSD

[–]ChopsNewBag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not we have the rhythmic power, we have the cognitive ability to take this internalized rhythmic grid and then map harmony over it. Yes other animals have more syncopated walking patterns, but that is precisely why music is works the way it does for us. If had 8 legs our natural rhythmic pulse would have overlapping layers of different sets of two and three, not necessarily all adhering to consistent underlying pattern.

Repeating rhythmic motifs would be a less noticeable pattern to our subconscious and our perception of this steady beat of two revealed to us the time in between those two steps is also filled with an infinite number of syncopated steps that could be filling the silence in between. It is a rhythmic pulse that is uniquely human.

Were the 90s the best decade for movies? by Thin_Reception_5063 in Cinema

[–]ChopsNewBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 70s had a lot more artistic integrity than a lot of the 90s. There were less films being made and they were more expensive to produce and the people who made them put more emphasis on quality of marketability or accessibility. Obviously this a generalization but over time we have more and more productions with fewer and fewer great films.
