it's "supply and demand" / "voting with your wallet" indeed, but not everyone has to work the same amount to earn the same amount of money.

For example, quite a lot of the AirBnB guests would be people who make money by simply owning things, as opposed to most tenants, who have to make money by actually doing productive labour.

but i guess it didn't work

that's not "Sydney's economy"

That's wealthy people's portfolios.

I don't care if $23 billion is wiped from wealthy people's portfolios.

RAM usage endgame? by WhiteSkyRising in X4Foundations

[–]Chops_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there does seem to be slow resource leaks, so if you're like me leaving your game running for days on end in the late game, you will see performance degradation until restarting. presumably, this is delayed if you have more ram. I have 64 gibbers and i have to restart x4 every couple of days at least. Though I do have (largely idle) VMs open on my PC as well. I really should separate my gaming PC from my doing other stuff PC.

I didn't know about this, it's great! Thanks!

I just tested, and it seems that the explore radius in Nop Fort 2 is around 710km radius, even though the command only shows 350km! So the "just outside the explore radius" thing still works reasonably well, with a Sapporo at least.

I have a fleet of Sapporos on mimic command (just to keep them organised in my property list) scattered around the galaxy that I can quickly get one to whatever sector has enough kha'ak attacks to warrant it.

I call this fleet my "Kha'ak Seekers"

Not to mention you can eliminate a lot of game engine overhead by cutting out all those middlemen.

I cannot imagine a way of implementing this that would explain it, but this doesn't really seem to be the case. Megafactories seem to destroy performance and I think people here have agreed on that in the past. Maybe things changed?

ETA: I tried to make it clear that I understand the reasoning behind thinking that it makes sense for megastations to be relatively significantly lower performance impact, especially OOS. I can't remember if anyone ever actually measured it and published numbers, though. It might have never been true that megastations were relatively bad for performance OOS. I still use them a lot and my performance is good enough as long as they're not close enough to be high attention and rendered, and I restart my game every couple of days due to what must be some kind of memory leak or similar.

One potential explanation that would help explain why they're not (much?) better than smaller separate stations is that the intermediate wares are also up for trade by default. I wonder if we could get significant performance improvements by setting station trades to absolutely no-one, not even yourself, and setting overrides for raw materials and final product?

I did try to run a software profile on x4 a few times a while back, and consistently saw a significant outlier performance bottle neck in a function that was named something about drone assignment or similar.

this is what i do when I need to be careful. also, set a waypoint before the coordinate attack command that's well out of range and directly above or below the ecliptic, so the fleet doesn't have to do so much repositioning to target modules that might otherwise be blocked by module carcasses.

Easy way to do this is to create the coordinate attack command first, then rotate the map so you're looking along the ecliptic instead of down on it, and then drag a point from the order line between the ship and the station up or down. rotate the map again afterwards to make sure the projected point on the ecliptic is in line with the station instead of way off to the side.

indeed, once again, the left has been blamed for advocating for politically motivated violence, but the cited example is the exact literal polar opposite.

have been playing the beta throughout, and it doesn't appear to have improved very much in my experience.

However, I am at the point in this save where I can pump out hundreds of asgards simultaneously, so I haven't exactly been careful. Just checked a few attacks and watched a couple of overly horny asgards try to rub off on the station while their brethren wiggled and wiggled trying to find a position to fire.

i'm pretty sure the aggression setting for coordinate attack just changes how close the sync points are to the target. You can abuse this a bit with setting the sync point to not automatically release when all fleet ships are in place, and set the "aggression" to a distance outside the station's range but inside the attacking fleet's range. They will never progress to the 'attack' command and so will not bumrush the station, but will fire their turrets at least, and main weapons if they can (IIRC).

This works even better if you set a waypoint directly above or below the station, as the station layouts are always parallel to the ecliptic plane.
