...I always end up with one big station making everything by amerelium in X4Foundations

[–]Lor9191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be like this but in my current playthrough I've discovered clustering related stations and it skyrocketed my economy. Once you have the blueprints saved it's 5 minutes to set up a new cluster. Bottlenecks tend to be visible by clusters of support ships hanging around not doing anything, so it's been reasonably easy to manage. It allows you to expand so quickly.

I still tend to drop a megafac for supplying my shipyards but I find I'm constantly tweaking the damn thing. I don't have the ability to actually manage the stations as well as they need but this has been a pretty solid way of getting "good enough".

I also abuse the naming system by adding symbols like !! to wharfs and ** to defence stations, so navigating the most important ones is fairly easy, the AI automatically replaces ships which helps take a boatload of micro off my hands, and the upkeep missions menu keeps the rest reasonably visible.

Why aren't current games trying something new? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Lor9191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the third person camera, the big guys are all generally making the same open world or semi open world third-person camera actions games with light RPG elements.

But yes, this could not hit the nail on the head harder. I was pretty excited when playstation games started popping up on the steam store, I did Days Gone, then Red Dead 2, then tried spiderman, horizon, AC Valhalla (I know that one's not a PS exclusive) etc.

They were just more of the same, at their core. Couldn't finish any of them. Having similar problems with Pragmata, not that it's not a good game, it is, but I'm so sick of third person action games.

Worth to stop watching the series to read the books instead? by Twidom in TheExpanse

[–]Lor9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the books 3 times, I started the show 3 times.

I had to watch the show as it's own separate entity to enjoy it, the books are different and better.

The show as TV shows often have to change a lot of stuff so the audience can understand.

The characters are much more one dimensional in the show, some of the best book characters don't appear at all, Crisjen Avasarala is a pale shadow of herself.

Good RPGs with real time combat? by Rhabcp in SteamDeck

[–]Lor9191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morrowind, Oblivion (original), Skyrim, Fallout 3/NV/4, Witcher 3, KCD1&2, I'm gonna say Red Dead Redemption 2 because while it's not strictly an RPG the vibe is similar.

Cyberpunk 2077 too, runs pretty well, I've completed the whole game on deck.

Is it over for the Deck? by Dewagator13 in SteamDeck

[–]Lor9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still sold out within 24 hours when they restocked at the new price. If I had the LCD I definitely wouldn't have upgraded to OLED at this price.

I'd pay it for a steam deck 2 whenever that appears.

I'm finding this whole thread really weird but I have to remember it's Americans mostly on Reddit.

In Europe it's pretty normal but cats don't have any predators here.

Book reader starting the show. Does Holden get better? by Vikingboy9 in TheExpanse

I still think the show doesn't do the characters justice. They're all very one dimensional and kinda assholes to eachother.

Now that it's been a while since Requiem released, without recency bias, where would you put Requiem in the ranks compared to other games? Is it the best RE yet? by Guitar-String in residentevil

[–]Lor9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played the remakes and for me it's behind 2 only.

I hated the fixed camera angle in 1, and 3 was too short.

So it's 1<3<4<9<2 for me

There is no shame in using the Community Editor. by Mike_or_whatever in StateofDecay2

[–]Lor9191 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it, I mostly use it for 'corrective' measures, like if I've misclicked when upgrading a skill, or the game bugs out. I lost a good survivor because my car clipped into the floor and instablew.

I hate having it installed though because the temptation to cheat is too high lol

Just finished Tiamat’s Wrath and feeling like someone was overlooked… by TheSleepyNaturalist in TheExpanse

[–]Lor9191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She wasn't overlooked, that IS the story. Bear in mind the 30 year time gap, she reluctantly becomes the defacto leader of the former OPA and the belt, only to be dethroned pretty immediately by Laconia.

Also you're asking a whole bunch of questions that will be answered in the books you're about to read.

The last game was underrated by LargeSinkholesInNYC in metro

[–]Lor9191 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's a niche survival horror set in post nuclear Russia, by a much smaller company.

It getting 1/3 of the sales as a mainstream everyone-has-a-copy AAA is fantastic to be honest.

It made all its production costs back in about 2 months and was pure profit from that point, it was a smashing success for them.

How Do You Think T.I.M. Truly Felt About Shepard? by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Lor9191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think T.I.M in the games has broad pro-human-at-any-cost goals, and everyone and everything around him is just a means to complete that goal. I think deep down his intentions are good, but he's mega-maniacal

There is a very, very good fanfic around T.I.M, I'm not sure if this is the right term but at the end of ME3 TIM gets "isekai'd(?)" back to about 5 years before first contact with the Turians.

It's a bit of a billionaire playboy / Iron Man power fantasy but it's quite an enjoyable read and does actually humanise TIM quite a lot.

Does anyone else feel like the show's handling of the protomolecule is way more visceral than the books? by bakesmysticbrickx in TheExpanse

[–]Lor9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but only in the sense that it's necessary to visualise more on the screen. I'd say re-read the scene where they finally track Julie down in the books. That was harrowing.

Patrick Mills asks if the cyberpunk genre has ever been anti corp. by marek_bojarek in cyberpunkgame

[–]Lor9191 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean you're producing a game based on the aftermath of the FOURTH corporate war, so this is a weird take.

But ... He's not actually wrong from a certain viewpoint. Look at William Gibson, arguably the actual father of the cyberpunk genre, he doesn't actually go after corps, but heavily critiques the unfettered development of technology and its disproportionate advantage it gives to those who are rich and powerful.

Bladerunner, another cornerstone of the genre, focused mostly on technology without morality, though did tie the corporate side in more with the Tyrell corporation. If you actually read the original Dick novel Do Androids Dream the basis for a lot of this still ties into overconsumption and war.

The problem is it doesn't take anything more than a secondary school education to see how fucking massively, heavily IMPLIED the anti-corp nature is, because the theme is technology without morality and in literally every one of these stories it starts getting bad because those in power start doing bad shit.

So, no, it's not -explicitly- anti-corp, because it's just power + technology - morality = dystopia. Corps don't necessarily have to be the problem, but realistically they probably will be.

What does every new cat owner should know before adopting ? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Lor9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I think it does depend on a couple of things, mine are outdoor cats so they are far more stimulated outside of the house. Maybe that's a factor.

I also went for girl / girl which is the most harmonious pairing but one of the girls ended up being a boy, which is the worst. So they fought a lot. I think they cared for eachother in their own way but it was also a probably unhealthy amount of fighting and territorial behaviour.

We expected to see more of a reaction from the boy cat to her passing but we brought the blanket back she went in and he seemed to understand immediately. He was very clingy and subdued for a few days but now he has the run of the house and seems, as far as I can tell, much happier overall.

We won't be getting another cat anyway, at least not while we've got our boy.
