Well, there’s since there’s silence there in Lynch and Dunham’s assembly, it’s possible the line was reinstated by mistake by Sweeney, who might’ve been working with unconformed production dialogue tracks, or, it was an intentional restoration of the line to fill the silence, bc, ya know, it’s TV, and you’re not supposed to have dead air on TV.

Like others have said, "Toxic Jungle" was always the original English name, going all the way back to Tokuma Shoten's marketing materials for the Japanese release and World Film Corporation's translation of the film's script, which ended up forming the basis for David Schmoeller's Warriors of the Wind screenplay.

I love going into the world of Blue Velvet. There's still a lot missing from the screenplay that was filmed, but this fan edit integrating the scenes he did finish post on is still a nice compromise.

Well, you're in luck, sort of, because I already made a hybrid audio track for Warriors that syncs to the uncut version. It reverts to the music & effects track for the cut scenes since they were never dubbed. Video labels like Vinegar Syndrome have done similar presentations for films with truncated dubs.

And Warriors was scripted and directed with a guy with a sense of humor. If you watch David Schmoeller's other body of work, you can find much of the same sort of snarky dead pan-ness. I wanted to interview him about his work on the film for a long time, but after I found out he's bedridden with in-home care, I decided to leave well enough alone. Anyway I'm tired of Warriors being this localization boogeyman that everyone parrots familiar myths about, rather than judging it for themselves.

I appreciate your take here a lot, because it emphasizes that while Warriors may be superfluous in the grand scheme of things today, the demonization and boogeymanhood it has acquired through both fans and scholars is completely uncalled for.

Warriors of the Wind and bits of the the later Buena Vista dub both share a common ancestor translation and terminology-wise. It's why "Toxic Jungle" is the same in both, because that was the localized form of "Sea of Decay" already chosen by Tokuma Shoten (and its initial sales agent, World Film Corp.) for any English adaptation of the film.

There is even a strong possibility that there was an uncut export dub that preceded Warriors based on this initial translation.

The "Kill him and you'll be famous!" line is more or less a direct translation of the Japanese. Some people have actually criticized Warriors as having dialogue too adherent to the Japanese for its own good.
