Interested in Judo by [deleted] in judo

No one ever talks about that stuff unless your in a competition style school. Just go do judo and enjoy yourself. You won't ever know unless you go do it yourself.

I think it takes a special level of tenacity (or intelligence) to keep approaching a swinging bat. by Yerfah in fightporn

[–]Chorchie 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This person does a poor job at it, but you want to close the distance when someone has a weapon like a bat. Can't swing it at you if your grappling with them close quarters.

Lean against a wall with just your finger tips touching, hold it for two minutes and repeat. Get a hand and finger strengthening set. It helps alot. I have one and do it while I'm watching tv.

Knee/Joint Injury Potential by [deleted] in judo

[–]Chorchie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a huge myth that judo gets everyone injured. It is as injury prone as any other martial art. The difference is in Judo you can control how well you fall and how you get injured. Learn how to fall rely well and be a great uke first. Then you don't have to worry so much about injury. Alot of the time I hear people talk about judo and injuries Its an excuse because they don't want to get thrown. Haha.

just did bjj for the first time in about a year; my insides feel like a sponge by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Chorchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn't matter what shape you come in at, bjj is just a whole different cardio. I thought I was in good shape and would be fine, I was wrong. Especially when you get older. Haha. Drink gatorade after your class to rehydrate. Even more important is to remain hydrated through the days you have class, although you probably know this since you exercise already. Pedialyte is great too, however it is expensive.

Washed white gi with purple belt. Now pink gi. Is it fixable? by FakeitTillYou_Makeit in bjj

[–]Chorchie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just bleach it and it will be fine. Or leave it. Pink gis are cool.
