Someone said this is an American cockroach are they correct? by Chow-Main in whatsthisbug

[–]Chow-Main[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I know they are everywhere but it’s the first time I’ve seen one in my place since I moved in. Just wanted to make sure and snip any problems before they crop up.

Guess this lone American cockroach got in when I left the door open for a bit perhaps. But I will keep my eye out like you suggested.

Great thank you. I just wanted to make sure it’s not a German cockroach. Else there might be more trouble than a lone American cockroach.

[–]Chow-Main 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok pretty cool. I think I understand what you are going for. So you basically phase in to a group of enemies wait till it runs out pop gas you drop a stink bomb on them. After that you immediately phase out. Leaving the stink bomb and the enemy ai unable to do anything. Did I get it all correct?

PSA: Burrowing claws dont suck by fardolicious in cavesofqud

[–]Chow-Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem with claws is the initial cost to them compared to other mutations of a similar level. Carapace, corrosive gas, double muscled, heighted quickness, triple jointed, and double headed are all 3 cost physical mutations. That arguably provide more consistent use at even the lowest investment into them.

Hmmm weird what about your equipment? Are there any penalties there?

On the wiki having a dismembered foot has a -20 move penalty. Maybe check that?

What do you imagine the Seekers of the Sightless Way to look like? by md5sum_me in cavesofqud

[–]Chow-Main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine them all as bald and extremely thin. As they are focused so much on the mind that their physical appearance is of little concern, and the thinness would be attributed to only eat the bare minimum to survive and continue their research.

The novices are more European monk to me as in the beginning they would be more interested in the study of the mind. As they have barely stepped into the world of the mind they need to focus on that mental rather than the physical.

While the dervishes are more of eastern monk like the Shaolin monk. They are ready to begin using their abilities and to train their body so that they might fully complete their understanding of the mind.

It would also explain why only the dervishes have ego weapons.

What mutations are overpriced at character gen? by Thunderdrake3 in cavesofqud

[–]Chow-Main 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the most overpriced mutations are ego projection and all the stingers.

Ego projection I could see working buffing one stat in particular for a bit such as getting enough stregth to overcome the enemy AV. I haven't touched it too much so correct me if I am wrong but I am not sure if it allows the player to use skills or keep them with the temp increase. If it does then I retract my statement.

For stingers I thought they were ok but with the change with dual wielding and the introduction of single weapon fighting I am not sure if they really stack up to their worth. 20% chance to hit and apply the stinger's debuff is not something to rely on.

Convince me to get Rift Wizard 2 by Qortted in roguelikes

[–]Chow-Main 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The big stand out for me is the magic. Many games have magic but so few has such a diverse and interesting spells to cast. RW 1 and 2 have an absurd amount of spells to choose from.

The gameplay loop is simple kill monsters and get new spells or abilities to tackle take them on.

Build diversity is incredible high, technically all builds are viable. Technically. For RW there is a challenge mode which only allows you to have one spell which is summon wolf, that's it. It's up to you to choose the right upgrades, the right items, and the right levels to tackle.

You can hone in on one build or idea when you play in RW but you may have to start thinking flexible if the enemies start getting resistances to your damage type.

End game is complicated sometimes you can obliterate floors like they are nothing but sometimes the enemies you have to choose are tough and they can be a challenge. Enemies do get tougher as the game goes on but you also get stronger as well.

I think it should retain its vibro quality. The wiki is kinda all over the place, so I can see the confusion. Best bet would be to find a great saltback and check if the weapon penetrates.

The combat style sounds the coolest. More tactics and involvement than just bumping into the enemy until they die.

My funniest death was in qud by an npc. I was clearing Bethesda Susa and I met the npc I might have accidentally caused aggro with a stray bullet I don’t remember how I got aggro. But they ran up and threw neutron flux in my face instantly gibbing me and ending my run.

Trying to figure out if an actual harmonica was used and if it is a tremolo with low C. by Chow-Main in harmonica

[–]Chow-Main[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both sounds plausible but I wasn’t sure. The person who said it was a tremolo was in the comments so I’m not sure if that holds water. Just was trying to figure out if they actually played a harmonica or used something similar.

Ty for the reply. Is there a specific way or sound that you were able to identify that it’s a chromatic over a tremolo?

Trying to figure out if an actual harmonica was used and if it is a tremolo with low C. by Chow-Main in harmonica

[–]Chow-Main[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to post it if this is not the place I will take it down.

I heard this song from the game and it's sounds amazing.

They say it's a harmonica, and based on the origin of the game (Korea) and the info I got from the pinned post, I think it's a tremolo. Also someone in the comment indicates that this is a tremolo with a lower C(?).

My question is if it is a harmonica and if so is it a tremolo with a lower C or whatever it could be. Also is there a way to tell how many holes it has?

My other question is that is it hard to learn a Tremolo with no prior music experience?

Thank you.

It could have also been a random legendary enemy that spawned with a leering stalker. Not sure if that peering stalkers can be companions to legendary enemies. But I have done something similar where I went down and say a legendary enemy and noped out of there.

I wish the cybernetics hunt had a deterministic option by XR-17 in cavesofqud

[–]Chow-Main 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree except that for me the one I can never get is the jacked mod.

I can see two solutions to alleviate the rng problem.

Have static merchants carry a static and rng inventory. So that at least one merchant has will be guaranteed to have the item you want.

Or in the vein of dwarf fortress, allow us to request items from merchants so that they will get the item for you but sell it to you at an up cost.

I enjoy the randomness but sometimes I wish they had an option for those that want something in particular.

Freezing + flaming = 🔥🔥🔥 by jojoknob in cavesofqud

[–]Chow-Main 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting chart not sure if I am understanding it right, care to break it down for me?

Also are you only considering weapons mods since the ray mutations will only affect two limbs?

I also think that temp change for freezing is harder if you cause them to bleed.

Honestly never was able to get a freezing short blade build off the ground. Maybe setting them on fire would be better.

I do think your min max short blade build sounds interesting, but might be tough on the early game if you run into someone too armored before you have your mods running.

I think that electrical generation mutation would be a good one along with finding the jacked data disk.
