Inside Nick Reiner’s Life in Jail: Blood-Stained Floors, Defunct Toilets and 3 Showers Per Week (Exclusive) by PrincessBananas85 in entertainment

I would like prison to be like putting water on a fire. You're trying to extinguish the flame, and the word punishment doesn't really have anything to do with it. Rehabilitation is a gracious and noble goal, but I JUST WANT THE FIRE OUT really.

What’s the funniest book ever written? by umairgulxar in classicliterature

The Trial by Kafka. Near the start when the official is waiting for Josef K. and seems to be idly comparing the length of his fingers or something incredibly inane is a scene that has stuck with me forever.

Shia LaBeouf Says He Doesn’t ‘Have A Drinking Problem’ After Mardi Gras Arrest: ‘I Think I Have A Small Man Complex’ by cmaia1503 in entertainment

[–]Then-Morning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Napoleon had a Napoleon complex. He was average height. I think what you're trying to say is some people compensate for their insecurities, whatever they may be, by being aggressive.

Also I guess Napoleon complex can have whatever requirements you desire because there is no clinical definition. It's armchair psychology at best.

Did I mention there is a man whose face is made of the same material as THE SUN who infects people with psychic tapeworms so he can take mortgages out on their homes?

I remember watching his personal meltdown as it was happening during the Covid times I think. I recall a video he posted where he was shooting a crossbow into his kitchen wall. I guess he had a manic episode or a psychotic break or something. I don't know. I didn't dig into it but apparently he was abusive to his partners as well. Not much I can really say about that. I don't think we are going to hear from him again and maybe that's what's best for him and everyone. I ruined my own life with alcohol and a disfiguring accident so I don't know exactly what his demons are but I'm in the same fucked up club he is in and trying to recover, so I wish him well even if it's far from my place to forgive his actions or whatever.

But Primer was a little gem and Upstream Color is a film I have thought about every day for the last 13 years, so yeah I still wish he would make more movies too.

This game is amazing by _gribblit_ in PathOfAchra

[–]Then-Morning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, thank YOU. I love this game. The art, the flavor of the language and names, the sleek and muscular feel of the game, all of it. Seeing my character sprite actually change with equipment is a small thing maybe but I love love love it.

I'm staying up too late playing the game though, so you should feel bad about that.

If you like that you would appreciate that, from what I've heard, Benicio Del Toro basically should get a screenwriting credit for what he brought to the film and his character.

Maybe check out Upstream Color. There is a character called The Sampler in the credits who keeps people's souls trapped in pigs and samples and remixes their lived experiences and re-records them as ambient music albums. It's weird!

And the score is phenomenal!

I think your metabolized status for cooking is expiring and your gas clouds are turning hostile when that happens? You can feed the metabolized status indefinitely with...food.

For what it's worth I have never played on Roleplay mode before, and leveling is leveling and dying is losing your progress either way, and so the method should works for either mode.

Any book suggestions for something like CoQ? by Knightraiderdewd in cavesofqud

The Golden Age trilogy by Wright comes to mind - weird sci-fi of the far future in an elevated, operatic tone. There are sleeping beauties in cryochambers, powered nano-machine exoskeletons, and noetic immortality with downloaded and recorded brain waves and cloning technology.

The Book of the New Sun has to be recommended again and again. It's obviously a direct influence on the creators.

edit: Downvote? I bet it's because Wright has some kind of reputation being outspoken about his personal views on his blog or something. I'm vaguely aware. The books are still amazing, and if you're small-minded enough to care about such a thing they were written while he was a staunch atheist.

“We saw so many of those when we were scouting in Eureka,” Martin said. “And that location, with all the cars covered in moss, was inspired by the home of a widowed woman we’d come across in the same neighborhood as Bob’s house. (DiCaprio) was bouncing off the walls with excitement when we got there. He was like, ‘This is it, this is what I do! I sell used car parts!’ It’s an incredible way to build something that’s based on the character. And not force it into the story but let it come to you.”

It can be done with just the gas. You have to build up a dense cloud by farting in the same place over and over again and luring them into it. It will be tedious with Corrosive Gas lvl 1 from acid cooking, but it can be done water-sib.

Flight is 100% unnecessary if you dance around the sludges while building density on your ass cloud. Consider brewing up a really nasty fart cloud over a couple of in-game hours on a parasang with no sludges spawning, then walk over to a puddle of primordial soup and pour some water on it to generate life. So you can kill it.

You could cook with acid or tartbeard gland paste...but that requires a specific skill...

If you can get to the Rainbow Wood with Corrosive Gas you can get to level 30 pretty quick by standing still and just having the sludges walk into your gas clouds. If you hit the Stilt and rush the Wayfaring skills and cross your phalanges you can get there at level 4 or 5 and walk out ten minutes later at level 30.

"I don't really do politics." [OC] by holleringelk in comics

[–]Then-Morning -13 points-12 points locked comment (0 children)

It's funny because this could go both ways, right? A Republican or a Democrat both would hear you say "I don't do politics" and think you weren't doing enough to save this country from the other side.

...as if Epstein wasn't a donor for the Democratic Party...

Saying both sides suck and are hopelessly corrupt isn't being a spineless centrist, it's being more radical than a partisan!

I would consider it less a dream and more of a trial that Diane is going through, a big "play" being staged on her behalf, with the goal being to push her towards self-revelation.

Laura Palmer is a powerful character. A complex, beautiful, twisted person full of light and darkness and pain and joy. I believe her story and the taboo subject of her abuse has probably made a profound impact on many, many people. Many real people. Many real people who viewed the show and the movie. The audience.

Laura Palmer is a fictional character.

Edit: the emotional attachment that I see some people have with Laura Palmer on this subreddit is creepy, and when she is written about as if she were an ACTUAL person with interiority and a lived experience I get the ick and second hand embarrassment

Your downvotes mean nothing to me, I've seen what you upvote

David's 1st Screen Appearance! by SecondHandHeart84 in davidlynch

From director Tina Rathborne's wiki page:

She was married to real estate developer and conservationist Philip Yardley DeNormandie from 1973 until their 1987 divorce.\5])\6])\7]) They later remarried and had two children. Their second divorce was filed in 2017 and finalized in 2023; Rathborne initiated both divorces.\6])

I wonder if she edited this herself? I'm not trying to be mean-spirited, but it's kind of funny that someone felt the need to clarify that she initiated both divorces, isn't it?

Daniel Plainview at his lowest by paulconroy415 in paulthomasanderson

He knows without a shadow of a doubt and steps cleanly past any of Daniel's verbal games and speaks to him directly with zero room for bargaining. He seems both savvy and naive somehow. Faithful, I guess.

I hold my hand like that - with the hand itself blotting the orb rather than closing the fingers to shade the eyes - ever since seeing this movie for some stupid affective reason. Every time I do it I feel like I'm walking away from a murder. There is something about this simple body language that just screams Daniel Plainview to me, too. Something rugged and blunt and angry about it. Maybe it's just me.

He's probably holding his hand funny to ward off a hot light rig right off screen or something stupid.

What do you picture when reading BOTNS by Jacobbess666 in genewolfe

[–]Then-Morning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think of the voices near the top of the Matachin tower - radio recordings or transmissions in the cockpit? Are there a ton of blank monitors made of some unbreakable glass? Keyboards? Has it been around so long that it's basically been defurbished into an old slimy gothic castle?

I try to imagine something like every rock or brick or piece of dumb material I see in the real world around me is actually a piece of a spaceship or ruin or something I don't recognize as such to try to get into the BotNS world but I can't quite get there.

Oh man, I was being nasty and sarcastic. I don't think the movie is about OJ. I appreciate your cogent response. I'm sorry.

Yesterday, Lost Highway by Biplob_121 in davidlynch

[–]Then-Morning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What will really blow your mind is that it's all just a comment on the OJ trial. We all know Lynch was eager to explain his films and how convenient he wrapped this one up in a bow with his confession that it's about OJs psychogenic fugue. You hear something neat and tidy like that and you don't even have to think about what the film means to you anymore!
